It seems as though all the car testers are not aware of the fact that the Accord Hybrid DOES NOT have transmission at all. No CVT. The ICE power plant drives a generator that sends electrical energy to the electrical drive motor(s). A bit like a diesel locomotive. That is why you are seeing the ICE rev even more freely than a CVT. There are certain driving situations where the ICE sends the power directly to the wheels.

So is no transmission a good or bad thing?
@garyhawkins1941
@garyhawkins1941 Жыл бұрын
@@hamiltonchevez8114 Neither. The design does not require it. I guess you can say it is good. One less part to require service and less dead weight to haul around. Battery EV’s also have no transmission for the same reason.

well the actual discription is "e-cvt", its not belt , or chain driven , but it is an CVT but electrically controlled

I never thought I would get a hybrid or a CVT and frankly I have not studied the difference on this CVT vs the one in the other accords but I must say this 22 Honda Accord sport is a blast to drive. It's pretty quick in sport mode. I was in a little spat with a bimmer 330i not too modified but he was even impressed, he won but not by too much Looks slick with the cyclone wheels in the sonic grey and I get about 42 mpg on trips when I want to. I say that cause I get around 27 when I'm driving like I stole it (which is often) Bought it to stave off $5 gas on 200 mile round trips, for Honda reliability, and heard of you get any manufacturers CVT, Hondas is the best. I'm not disappointed (except maybe for the engine sound lol)

It’s basically an E-CVT that works with the electric motor. Actually a whole lot different than a normal mechanical cvt. Smooth as butter for sure

Regarding your tire pressure warning -- I saw a different video on this model and it shows how to clear that. I can't recall how to do it so I'll just recommend that you look it up if interested. I just came from the dealer last night and ordered the 2022 Accord Hybrid sport. Mid-August is the projected ready date.

the accord is the kinda car you don't want but you need at certain point of your life, namely when you are broke, it's cheap to buy, cheap to run, rarely needs any repairs just gets beaten and keeps going. I have an accord myself, I had it for 7 years, it's 23 years old and done idk probably half a million kilometers. it's very battered but still going, I'm afraid to put any big money into it cause it may stop anytime but as long as it goes I will keep driving it. and because I have an emotional attachment to it I guess, it's really nothing much objectively from other people's perspective but for me it's my safe space where I feel good

I bought one new and am far from broke. Not to brag but I've been fortunate to have driven all sorts of cars my whole life, luxury and otherwise. The last car I had was a new G80. At some point I realized every car offers most of the same regardless of price, you really just need to get from point A to B, especially working from home now. And with today's economy, etc. why not get a cheap hybrid and save all around?

The Honda clarity and accord hybrids don't actually use conventional CVTs, ie metal bands on adjustable cones a la nissan or subaru. They use a planetary gear set to combine the electric motor and the gas engine output. Technically its a single speed from the motor to the wheels only used for high speed. Low speeds the engine energizes a motor-generator, which gets fed into a traction motor connected to the wheels, effectively just like an EV. Ford uses the same system in the escape and maverick hybrid.
@RoadsUntraveled
@RoadsUntraveled 2 жыл бұрын
Easier to simply say CVT for the general driver. It is clear however looking at the torque delivery read out on the center screen and by driving feel that this is the case, seamless communication between the electric motor and the engine for the most part. Best of both worlds for efficiency no doubt, but effectively feels the same as any other CVT.
@jeffjo8732
@jeffjo8732 2 жыл бұрын
They use neither "metal bands on adjustable cones" nor "a planetary gear set to combine the electric motor and the gas engine output." They don't use what you would call a transmission at all. But you seem to have gotten the other details close. At speeds below about 45 mph, or anytime more than cruising power is needed, it is an EV where the electric motor is powered by the combination of a battery and an ICE-driven generator. The engine runs at 2000 rpm and 34 HP (the efficiency sweet spot, 40.6%) and the battery adjusts that power to what the car needs. Sure, you can calculate the ratio of crankshaft rpm to countershaft rpm, but the number is meaningless. Honda engineers call it an "electrically-coupled CVT," but "virtual CVT" would be better understood. When cruising on the highway, a clutch engages the ICE to an overdrive gear, which drives the countershaft. The motor performs the same task that the generator did before, adjusting ICE power to the needs of the car. Efficiency remains above 40% It "feels like" and EV, because it is one. It "sounds like" a CVT only if you have the expectation that the sound has direct meaning.
@jeffjo8732
@jeffjo8732 Жыл бұрын
@@RoadsUntraveled More accurate to say it drives like an EV, not a CVT. Because it is one. That way you don't get the knee-jerk responses like "I would never drive a CVT." Yes, it sounds more like a CVT, but once you realize the sound is not what is driving it.

You don't see this car(and Honda cars in general) here in the Netherlands, because we have the German,Tsjech,French(and Volvo of course) brands. Most are VW's, Audi's,BMW, Benz,Skoda's,Ford,Opel,Renault ,Citroen,Peugeot. Opel now is PSA i thought. Or Stellantis. The only "big" Japanese brand here is Toyota, but not as big as VW. VAG is the biggest car manufacturer in the world, i thought. But i believe the Honda Accord is a good car, shure. But the design is not so nice (my and a lot of other people's opinion). Today, it's all about design and not only cars..

0 to 60, about a second slower than the 2.0t, but a second faster than the 1.5t. Neither of those options average 40mpg though. I don't expect to win drag races in mine, but it gets me up to 80mph halfway down the freeway onramp; good enough. I drive between 100 and 300 miles, mostly in town, a day, so my gas savings make my car payment.

@@chuckwilliams6261 I am interested in one of these. I drive somewhat spirited-enough to get ahead of traffic so they don’t slow me down and make me late. But I don’t floor it or zoom around. Basically give it just enough gas to be ahead, and then I cruise from there. Do you think driving this way would yield 40 MPG? Lots of traffic and stoplights along the way.
