Dornoch finally got a chance to run his race, congratulations to all of his connections. yes, Dornoch, you are as good as your brother. Sierra Leone really had no excuse. They have to find out out why he keeps coming in. Seize the Grey ran his heart out. Mindframe ran a gallant race, not enough experience . And thankfully, they all finished the race.

Besides getting bumped 4 times, Sierra Leone had no excuse, much the best horse! I think changing the jockey had consequences, I also think he wins it if it 1 1/2 miles..

They made the turn and Fox went Nascar style with their broadcast by cutting all information and giving a horrible angle that shows nothing down the stretch

Mind frame ran like a green, inexperienced horse. Owners should be proud of him. Sierra Leone was ripped off by running this classic race at that upstate bush track at a shorter distance. It was not a real Belmont Stakes. The entire race was changed and a horse that had the capability to go a mile and a half gets ripped off by the industry. That race on Saturday was not a real Belmont stakes. We all know who would have won had the race been held at belmont park at the champions distance. On the winners stud records, after he retires, it should be noted that he did not win at a mile and a half. He won an altered version of a classic race….but no way could the winner have won had this race not been mutilated by the industry. The sport IMO has officially died.

My favorite moment is when Mindframe and Dornoch hook up at the top of the stretch and we see Dornoch fight off the challenge and hold onto the lead after fast early fractions. That takes the heart of a champion.

If you know horses and bits Dornoch has a ring bit, blinkers and his ears pinned back - that is a very fit, strong horse to ride and when the jock just shows the whip - if you haven't done don't try.

Actually, 47 and change is pretty Average , if not slower for these types of horses. Look at the fractions for Authentic in the Derby and the Classic and he wired them..

@@chrisp.9172 you completely missed my point - that horse was never asked to do anything which is what a well cared for horse does at that age. These are prey animals. Being first means you stay alive - he was having fun, and Saratoga is a beautiful track. David Cassidy made it clear he wanted his ashes spread there. Too bad nobody cared about the man or his money to get him the help he needed.

@@drewhs3612yep and that's after he said Chad Brown was having a discussion with Tyler Gaffalione about losing the mount on Sierra Leone who he had already taken off the horse long before the race. It appeared to be Irad Ortiz, Jr. who Chad Brown was speaking to before an earlier race. After they came back from the break I expected he would correct his error and say that it wasn't Tyler Gaffalione in that earlier clip, but nothing was said about it. They just let it go.

It’s a good thing there was no chance of a triple crown winner this year. It would have been always with an asterisk. The 1 1/2 mile Belmont was the ultimate test..1 1/4 doesn’t do it. There’s been more than one horse that lost the triple crown in that last 1/4 mile.

Why a asterisk? If a horse would had this year it would have in the advertised distances. It's not that horse's fault they changed the rules and besides we are talking a 1/4 mile! Personally I think they should have started them on the back stretch and kept a 1 1/2 but o well! We no their is no imagination anymore! Also should there be a asterisk on every baseball game now played because they have a pitch clock? Rules can fluctuate!

Really disappointed that a prestigious track like Saratoga couldn't accommodate the Belmont Stakes at 12 furlongs. Took away a lot for me, because it seems like Sierra Leone and Mindframe would've had a battle royal to the finish, with 2 furlongs more to travel.

@@happyhapley Actually, closers rarely win the Belmont. Longer races don't necessarily favor the closers. Pace makes the race, regardless of the distance.

@@claudeciancio1933 There are front runners as well as closers in every race, no matter the distance. Horses entered in the Belmont Stakes are almost always stayers (prefer 8 furlongs or longer). Closers thrive best when there is competition on the lead. Front runners thrive best when alone on the lead. Notice that I didn't say you were wrong, because, like you said, it mainly depends on the pace of the race.

The way this race was announced, I would not have known this was triple crown race if not for the video title. I almost thought this was one of the less known race. The call was at best 10% as exciting as the Kentucky Derby.

Fox needs to do better with the audio! Plus, the camera man was already on the fifth horse before they started covering the post parade. Loved the crew from America’s Day at the Races, but a lot of the Fox ppl were terrible.

Exactly! Fox should not have let their own sports crew host the broadcast. They did a terrible job, and should have gone with the entire crew from America's Day at The Races. I switched over to Fox Sports for a while, and Lafitte Pincay Jr was hosting over there. They should have used him for the entire broadcast on both channels. I don't know why they went with a different crew over there. That was double the time and effort. And if the guy was there on Fox because of a diversity hire so it's not three white guys at the desk, then Lafitte would have fit that bill since he is Hispanic. Just sayin . . .

It was the spring travers. In a couple of months we'll have the summer travers. The belmont stakes wont be run again until 26 or 27. At least the race wasnt run at that toilet bowl aqueduct.

Just so everyone knows, the announcer is Frank Mirhamadi. He is the announcer for Santa Anita. And is well respected by MANY!

As an owner, I introduced myself to Frank a few years ago. He invited me into the booth, sat down and chatted with me. Gave my horse and my family special recognition during and after the call (we won). HE IS A CLASS ACT!!!

It was a misleading comment to those who have not been paying attention, but not wrong. He was referring to Jayson Werth who is the owner of Dornoch and played for the Philadelphia Phillies. Crazy how many people on here are complaining about this with no idea of any background of the horses in the field.

If not for the video title, I would not have recognized this was a triple crown race given the manner it was announced. I nearly believed that this race was less well-known. At most, ten percent as thrilling as the Kentucky Derby was the call.

NBC lost the NYRA contract to broadcast the Belmont when it came up for renewal. Fox was awarded it. The other crew still works for NBC.

Beautiful run for that race. I worked Saratoga for many years and really love that track. It’s amazing. I loved my time working and living there. I’m 57 now. I still have my win pictures from my years grooming.

Dornoch, with 17-1 odds, won the 156th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, beating a handful of contenders widely believed to have a greater chance of winning. “It was perfect,” jockey Luis Saez (age 32, born in Panama) said of Dornoch's run to fend off Mindframe (7-2 odds). Trainer Danny Gargan got his first victory in a Triple Crown race. This year's Belmont Stakes was raced at Saratoga and run at 1.25 miles instead of the traditional 1.5 miles because of renovations at Belmont Racetrack. That should be notable for handicapping since typically for the Belmont it's important to look at horses that can go the distance.

Sierra got bumped early & @ the top of the stretch. Valiant 3rd but it seems he needs a lil more distance. 2 bad it wasn't run @ the standard 1.5mi. Mindframe is talented but is still a lil green. Dornoch ran gr8 & upset a good field 🐴🏆

I think leaving Tyler on Sierra Leone would have been the difference in this race. Chad Brown made a mistake by switching him for Pratt. Sierra Leone lugs in, badly, and that's on Brown and his staff to deal with it. The jockey should not have been pulled off the horse for something beyond his control. He didn't get a great trip and you're right, he got bumped a couple of times.

Calling a win at 10F on the dirt at Saratoga a win in the Belmont Stakes is like calling a win at 8F on the dirt at Keeneland a win in the Kentucky Derby. In theory, it's the exact same thing!

Good catch. If you like #6 , the idea is and ▶️ around with pick 4 , pick 3 and daily doubles. I would have made large if I liked the #6 .It was not my day 😒. Well on to the Stanley Cup game, Florida vs Edmonton. Should be an exciting hockey

Wow! Dornoch has answered every question! No one gave him a chance. None of the nationally prominent handicappers picked Dornoch to win. If he was mentioned at all it was to dismiss his chances. After closely watching the derby it was apparent he had run but a poor start and a worse trip gave him no chance to show it. I’m happy for Luis Saez and Danny Gargan who both knew what they had. Good Magic stock going up!

I always believed in him, they just let him run his race & not experiment on coming off the pace like in his last race. I knew he could go wire to wire well almost after he took the lead from Sieze The Grey. I hit the Pick 4 & had a phenomenal Day 🎉😊😅😂!

I just LOVE (not) how the humans take all the credit for winning these races. Everyone from the Owner to the Trainer to the Jockey----THEY all "won". Not the HORSE-----the upstaging humans. Of course, if it were solely up to the horses, this entire sport wouldn't exist. They'd be content with being horses.

Mystic Dan was obviously not up for this race, can't believe he was even entered. It makes no sense to put a horse through this much wear and tear if there's not something like the Triple Crown on the line. Thought McPeek and his owners would have more sense than that...kinda just seems greedy and not prioritizing what's best for the horse, imho🤔
