You are forgiven. In fact I have heard a lot of discussion including did Max know Lando was there or not? But bottom line, whether he did or not it was Max's mistake or fault. Penalty justified.

Max is lucky he didn't get multiple penalties. That blocking maneuver in lap 63 was EGREGIOUS, and then the additional blocking AFTER the collision warranted another penalty. At the minimum, Max should have gotten 30 seconds of penalties (10 seconds x 3)

@@Lisvonian ehhh, You must be blind to not seen how egregious Max was being in the leadup. When they popped up the penalty banner for norris, I thought the banner was going to say Max was getting a penalty for one for 5-6 times he was illegally blocking Norris at that point, and that was a couple laps before the collision. Max just got more and more brazen. He deserved a penalty for the block on lap 63 as it almost caused a collision, and then the collision happened (he was penalized, ok fair), and then he BLOCKED Norris AFTER the collision AGAIN because Norris' puncture was a slower puncture and he still had good grip immediately following the collision, but Max was swerving ALL OVER THE ROAD to keep the (at the time) undamaged vehicle behind. It was the most obvious rule infractions I've seen in years, and makes what Kmag did earlier this year to Hamilton look like clean racing.

But it’s also worth considering his command of the English language is less than native fluency. He has functional fluency within the scope of communication within his role to the team and media, but understanding the minutiae of a language and the words that carry significant hostility is well beyond the understanding of most people that are still learning it. Even Ricciardo had a similar instance in the past few years where he said something in Italian that was deeply offensive.

I grew up using the word and have used it for decades and I'm not going to let a bunch of pearl clutching kids change the way I speak because they think it makes them better people. At the end of the day if someone wants to insult and hurt someone else, they're going to. why does it matter what words they use to do it. Now that Lando has a feel for it and the car that can do it, He can actually start to learn now. I'm actually gonna throw my 2 cents here that I feel like not all that many people are talking about. Red Bull on race day were shockingly below par when it came to race execution, and it wasn't just because of the 6.5 second pitstop. From weird strategic decisions like leaving Max out in traffic for far too long (even when it became painfully apparent that he was losing pace from the evidence that both of the Haas cars were keeping up after they were lapped), to not at all letting Max know that Lando was under investigation for track limits (so a 5s penalty was looming). Of course, no team is infallible, and Red Bull is no different. But wow, I was surprised that the team that I knew as the benchmark for brilliant race day execution dropped the ball quite significantly.

Yep, Horners antics at the beginning of the year caused issues. Adrian leaving has affected the team mentally I reckon. Horner appears to have made a bad call with DR Horner appears to have made a bad call with Perez. Horner has then ended up in the middle of more drama. The team is clearly unsettled. I'm not sure what the solution is, but giving Horner more power seems to have been negative for the team. Maybe he needs to counter thinking of Marko, where the two combined are better. Maybe he needs to return to Red Bull of old bring new talent through and being more edgy. They seem to have move to staid and conservative. Mercedes and McLaren bring young talent through seem more vibrant. Is the problem now actually Horner having too much power, or is he really the problem that needs replacing.

I'm glad for Magnussen. Even if I suspect he won't be in F1 next year, I hope he can finish without the stain of a race ban on his final season. People were quick to call him washed, but that ignores his career prior to the rash of penalty points earlier this season. He may not have lit the series on fire, but he was certainly better than that. And regarding Ricciardo, people who call him washed should consider that if he is consistently near or better than Yuki's performance, and people rate Yuki so highly, then that should quality Riccardo as "definitely not washed." He may not be what he was in his prime RBR years, but the early part of the season aside, Ricciardo has been doing enough to prove he can still race.

Here's the issue. It was for most part of the season a car issue for both yuki and daniel - including Canada when he started P5. Lost to Alonso and Hamilton with better grip. However, the past two races daniel didn't have that issue. He started p18 and had a good start in Barcelona ( he passed yuki) but on the first turn he was on the outside and the cars ahead braked early and he lost two positions to Yuki and Logan on inside. In Austria, he had a good start but again was on the outside, and to his inside was Kmag and Hulk. Hulk went wide and daniel had to leave the track to avoid contact, which also lost him a position to kmag and gasly. Went down to p13 and still got a p9 in the end. Hopefully that car issue is gone but I hope he can place the car better into the first corner

To me, the stewards dropped the ball by giving Lando the penalty for track limits after the race. That should've been done during the race. That would've changed the entire battle between Lando and Max. We also have been noticing a lot of greed and anger in Lando. Sure, Lando can win races, but he is more like Max when he first entered F1. Lando's lack of experience racing in front is sabotaging him. Lando really needs to calm down and learns to be more tactical. These are no tin-top cars like he races in the sim. At the end of the day, Max increased his lead. He doesn't care about Russell or Piastri scoring points. As long as the others keep taking away points that Lando could've gain, he keeps increasing the lead.

As a person with Max as a favoured driver I have to agree that the penalty was fair, what I will not agree with based on the stewards wordings and having read a decent amount of incident documents over the last few years would be things like Andrea Stella (yes there's bias there but anyway) claiming Max to be fully at fault, the stewards used predominantly they have previously used wholly therefore Lando had somewhere between 1 and 49% blame in the incident and while the stewards by the fact of being different people at different races are sometimes inconsistent the vocabulary is usually very similar
@valerierodger
@valerierodger 2 күн бұрын
If the stewards were only putting 51% of the blame on Max, he would not have picked up two penalty points in addition to a 10 second penalty. Although they don’t say it in the document, I suspect that Max moving under braking on Norris‘s previous attempts to pass probably played into their decision. And of course, Andrea Stella is going to back his driver - no different than Horner saying that Max shouldn’t have been penalized, or GP telling Max that it was Lando driving that was unacceptable. Or, for that matter, any of the countless times that Horner has said that Max did nothing wrong when Max got penalized for something.

At the start of the season, no one really expected Lando to be fighting Max for wins or even contending for the championship. This alone is already a significant achievement for Lando. While Max Verstappen has the drivers' championship more or less in the bag, it would be wise for him to consider the bigger picture rather than adopting a win-or-nothing attitude. Although this approach may not jeopardize his individual championship, it could potentially cost Red Bull the constructors' championship. While some of the responsibility falls on Sergio Perez for not consistently delivering points, it's clear that the car is highly competitive mainly with Max behind the wheel. Thus, a more strategic approach from Max could help secure the constructors title for the team.

I don’t see this as a massive loss for Mclaren, right now I don’t see any realistic chance for Lando to challenge for the WDC and they’ve proved that they are on the same pace (if not faster) than Redbull, and they still out scored RB with Oscars p2 so they can definitely challenge for the WCC

what the fight between them has shown are two things: 1: max hasn't changed one bit, for better or worse. he will fight to the edge of the rules and over, for every single point, at all times. and 2: lando isn't there yet. max was 100% at fault for the collision, but it's not like lando was emulating Senna either. sloppy driving from both of them at the end.

Why was Sergio Perez given a grid penalty for driving his damaged car back to the pits in Canada, but Norris wasn't given one in Austria?

Because Norris wasn’t driving around with his entire rear wing ready to fall off, and there was no reason at the time to believe that his car would have to be retired. Drivers continue with punctures all the time, drivers continue with damaged cars all the time, drivers even continue with carbon fibre flapping in the wind on a regular basis without being penalized - when they get shown the meatball or penalized, it’s because they are _needlessly_ continuing to drive with obvious and visible potential of shedding parts that would be dangerous to other drivers. For example, if they driver has a punctured tire or broken front wing, that is potentially shedding parts, it’s reasonable for them to continue around the track to get to the pits so they can change the part and continue to race, it’s not reasonable for them to fail to pit and continue to race when pieces of the front wing look like they are about to fall off. Likewise, it is not reasonable to limp back to the pits when it is obvious that your car is _not_ going to be able to continue to race, _and_ you have a massive carbon fiber assembly that is clearly ready to fall off if you look at it the wrong way, _and_ your team straight up admits that they told you to bring your car back to the pits to avoid having the race red flagged like they expected would happen had you pulled over like you were supposed to. That last one really tipped the scales

I also hated the pre-collision coverage of team radio. We basically had 3 laps of 25-year olds complaining over the radio instead of coverage of the battle (as opposed to, say, Bono telling Lewis to yield the position to Carlos, which actually explained him giving up the position). Personally I'm just happy Max found an equal in racecraft, a person who doesn't have the status and experience to live to fight another day. But now the pressure is on 3 time World Champion to show some class for once.

@@shahrezshah1450LOL the only reason there’s a difference in their reactions is that Lando was interviewed after having been taken out of the race by a driver who was not racing cleanly (if Max had been given a warning for moving under breaking, the battle might have gone differently) while Max was being interviewed after having finished the race and increased his championship lead by 10 points. The last time things didn’t go Max’s way when he was in a battle for a championship, he wouldn’t even celebrate on the podium, he went off to sulk. He is a long way from demonstrating actual class and sportsmanship in any meaningful way.

Max like Schumacher and Senna is very good at almost controlling the attacking driver as to where and when they will attempt the pass as well as giving a perception that if you try and pass the risk of a collision is high. Max's contact with Lando was just a bit sloppy and was a shame. It was interesting to hear Max's radio well before Lando caught him, he knew he was in trouble with tyres and I think its the first time in a long time you could hear stress in his voice.

So Max CLEARLY made a mistake in going left... although it was slight. So, he deserved the 10 secs and the 2 points. That said, he left quite a lot of space on the left side for Lando, significantly more space then Lando left him in Spain (as Max was in the grass). I really am quite disgusted (not this channel thankfully) what the English press is doing.. not helpful for anybody, I guess sensationalism is too important for them.

Hopefully, Lando and Max take the lessons learned in Austria to give us a real banger of a dogfight at Silverstone. Also, lets add another milestone on Alonso's resume. Leclerc has officially become the 2nd driver after Schumacher to finish ahead of him by pulling off a 4-stopper. Hopefully, Grandpa Alonso gets his form back again and pull off some impressive racing and actually finish ahead of Sir Lancelot. Also, Logan really got the biggest L this race. Despite Leclerc starting the race falling down into the Logan Zone after his shunt with Pastry, Charles was able to pull off a banger recovery and finished in P11, while Logan is stuck in the back, and not even Alonso coming in like a bull behind Zhou could close the gap enough for him to finish outside of the gutter.

while I agree Max was too aggressive in defending, it is not as bad as the British media and some fans make it out to be. And I feel like they choose to ignore the way Lando was attacking, going for gaps that weren't there that caused him to lock up and go off track (lap 59) and even driving Max off track (lap 63). Had Max been less attentive at those moments like Lando was in lap 64 they would have collided earlier. Overall I didn't think Max was doing much more wrong than Lando, it's just that one of his faults led to the crash, while Lando got away with it (except for the 5 second penalty).

22:36 mmmm, I disagree. F1 cars are very reliant on aerodynamics for their speed and you have to remember that this Austrian qualifying was the closest qualifying session in F1 history, so their performance was a lot closer than it would seem on the surface. So damage on a RedBull car against a Haas is a lot of (relative) time lost.
