According to the folks at Cadillac we should be seeing the Cadillac Escalade IQ on the road before the end of 2024 but in the meantime we got a chance to peak at it here at the 2024 Chicago Auto Show. While we weren't able to get inside this particular vehicle there's still plenty to see and talk about that will help potential Escalade IQ customers decide if this is the direction they want to go with the their new vehicle. We'll be sure to put it through it's paces when we get a chance to drive it and if there are specifics you want us to look out for let us know in the comment section below!

The last caddy in my family was dad's '68 DeVille convertible. It was white with a red leather interior, tons of chrome and still had somewhat subdued tailfins with a 500 cu engine that got maybe 12 miles to the gallon... going downhill with the wind at your back. Dad said it could pass anything on the road except a gas station. You needed an eight lane highway to make a U turn and it was rather like to trying to park the Queen Mary. But it was the epitome of luxury. I could stretch out in both the front and back seats very comfortably and take a nap. Power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission, 2 speed windshield wipers and one of those high-tech automatic channel finders on the radio all wrapped in about 5000 lbs of good old-fashioned American made steel on an X frame. The ride was the smoothest of any car I've ever driven. It was like floating down the interstate on a magic carpet. And, it had air conditioning. In 1968 if you wanted to let people know you had money to burn, you bought a convertible with AC. She was an ocean liner on wheels and honestly, I'd take that over anything I've seen produced in the last 40 years.

Exactly, you not being able to afford 130k car doesn’t mean others can’t. And no Escalade was never meant for average consumer. 130k isn’t all that high when you consider this is a luxury full size large SUV and how crazy inflation has been

GM's track record speaks volumes about their electrical components - prone to breaking at the drop of a hat. That flashy interior might be eye catchy, but let's be real: it's more likely to cause frustration than comfort. Yes and surely those screens will eventually break down. The only uncertainty is how soon they'll give out on you. While you are driving or on a random start ?

Cadillac Escalade IQ designers: "How many screens do you want in this vehicle?" Cadillac Executive: "Yes." The only people who can cram more screens in a vehicle are the people who customized cars for the TV show "Pimp My Ride".

I don't know about many of you, but I rather take range over more power/torque. This is why I am excited about the Lucid Gravity, while Porsche, Cadillac, Audi, etc...are racing to the first 1000HP EV, Lucid is focused on giving an estimated 450 miles range on their upcoming SUV Gravity. I don't need my Escalade, Hummer, Taycan, Macan, etc....to do 0-60 in sub 2 seconds, it's a novelty, and novelty wears off eventually, I am ok with sub 4s, 5s, 6s, just give me 400+ range when fully loaded with a family of 4, that's what SUV is used for.

What’s the vehicles weight have to do with anything? It makes way too much power for the weight to matter to owners. I don’t know of anyone planning to visit the drag strip in a Cadillac Escalade _IQ._

@@G-Rated Weight affects braking and handling greatly, as well as how often you'll have to replace tires. It's a real concern.
@G-Rated
@G-Rated 4 ай бұрын
@@uncalm Real concern for who?. Sir, it’s an EV, which means it will boast regenerative braking. In other words you won’t even have to use the brake pads unless you chose to. Secondly, it’s an ESCALADE. Nobody buying this model cares about spirited driving dynamics and/or “handling”, if that’s your priority Cadillac has an Escalade V they’ll happily sell to you. I _will_ say this company has some of the best suspension technology if not the best in the business, so regardless of this vehicle’s weight it will handle well, per usual if you’re familiar with Cadillac products. Lastly, the weight will not affect the tires anymore than the weight will affect the roads surface. You people come up with all kinds of issues that don’t exist. The tire manufacturer will be making these tires specifically for this vehicle for _Cadillac_ they are aware of the trucks size and weight as they go into development of the bespoke tires. Owners of this vehicle won’t be replacing tires prematurely due to its weight. You clearly aren’t the target buyer.

Ok, for my third row people… Years ago Caddy put a screen for the third row in the ESV. What do they have now? Nothing, but a harder view for the third row children who are going to sit back there. I don’t get it. It’s a horrible experience for an SUV of this price point. I know I know, just give it an iPad.

@124thDragoon
@124thDragoon 4 ай бұрын
@@jghall00 it isn't an R&D issue. It's an opulence issue. My argument is that it'd be more effective to distribute that 200 kWh of battery materials amongst ~10 plug-in hybrids. Or ~3 typical EVs. A rich person driving a 6000 pound "zero carbon emissions" brick of a vehicle doesn't offset the ~100 people in normal cars on the road driving along next to them. We don't need any more 'halo' cars. We need practical, affordable, reasonable solutions that the majority of people can afford. And that means decentralizing whatever gains in efficiency the market comes up with.
