Nobody could ever replace Gay he was brilliant and my hero, I drove 220 miles this Week to visit his grave and said a few prayers and thanked him for all the Years of entertainment. may he rest in peace

Sad watching Gay now that he's gone ,he was without doubt the greatest chat show host in the world, he was never afraid to ask guests whether they were big Hollywood stars questions that no other chat show host would. He would have made it in the UK US , now Gay and his best friend Eamon Andrews and Terry Wogan are gone but their memories will always be with us . God Bless their souls

I remember watching gay Byrne as a child especially at Christmas and I think a lot of people of my generation have taken gay has been some kind of a magical dad figure are a mythical father figure

No, his wife was a staunch Fianna Fail supporter, and she pushed him to vote that way, he said so in an interview back in the late 1980s. Gay Byrne revealed a lot about his beliefs in The Meaning of Life, where he said "we were sold a pup" with regard to religion, and his openly pro LGBT rights, and divorce rights etc. Not so right wing there.

How do I begin ?? Tubridy has turned the late late show into the Saturday night show with that stupid fuck'n band he was allowed to bring with him to the late late show. Why RTÉ allowed it I don't know. I'm sorry (but if it's not broken don't fix it) why change the original theme??do you see Eastenders or coronation street changing the theme every time the script writer or director leaves after 10 or 20 years I don't think so,, there seems to be no morals anymore get rid of the old bring in the new!! Sometimes the old is best but unfortunately the young will never see that.

What do you mean "why change the original theme"?? The theme is the same, the only difference is its performed a bit differently. If you remember when Pat Kenny took over, the theme was changed completely, whereas Tubridy brought it back, so what you said makes no sense whatsoever. And by the way, what's your beef with the Band? They're a bunch of very talented musicians.

soeffingwhat you’re missing my point completely,, I’m talking about the original late late opening tune why RTÉ changed it I’ll never know,,, you’re obviously a big tubridy and Saturday night live fan and that’s what the late late show is now Saturday night live because the similarities between the two shows are the same. I grew up in the Gaybo era personally I think they should of scrapped the late late show when gay retired because i think the shoes were to big to fill after all he did host the show for 37 years great achievement in fairness. Pat Kenny seriously the minister of arrogance what a prick. I’m not having a go at you and don’t mean to upset you in anyway,,,, but it’s a very true old saying If it ant broke don’t fix it.

PK was the one that ruined it - Tubridy restored what the original was all about under the legend that was GB.
