FAQ:
Why ‘the religious hippie?’
It was a nickname my friends gave me when I was in highschool because I dressed like a hippie and was a ‘wild child’, when I came back into my faith they thought ‘the religious hippie’ was now a more appropriate nickname and it stuck!
Who is your favorite saint? Saint Francis of Assisi
Where do you live? Chicago

I didn't know binge-watching tv was a form of gluttony , but it makes sense

The real issue is that our nation is facing is celebrating gluttony, rather than rebuking it. The answer is that we need legitimate moral leadership (including in politics, business, education, and journalism), rather than poseurs. Furthermore, we need a web of effective gluttony rehab clinics, to help the glutton pinpoint and resolve what it was which drove him or her over the edge, and into such an astonishing state of misery and severe imbalance. How can you help a glutton? It starts with identifying them. If they are saying that they just need a lot more of the very things that are not making them happy, because only then will they be happy, then you will know that you are facing a glutton. Be kind to them, but also be stern. Tell them, “You need an intervention.” Then, take them to the nearest gluttony clinic (once they are built). Until then, tell them, “Sorry, but more of what is not making you happy is not going to finally make you happy. That’s dopamine talking. You need to let serotonin do the talking, instead. To get you there, you need to see a dopamine-alleviation specialist, ASAP. Meanwhile, no more opioids. No more binge shopping, binge eating, or binge-watching Netflix. No more binge throwing up after binge-eating. No more binge gossiping, binge drinking alcohol, binge snorting cocaine or binge taking any other illegal drug. No more binge sexcapades, or binge obsessing about your perfect house and your perfect life on social media. No more binge abusing or even harassing your co-workers or employees. We’re wiping all of that counterproductive dysfunction off the board, and starting fresh by deploying the values which bring about sustained happiness, rather than fleeting illusions.

I need to go to confess my gluttony tomorrow sometime before mass. Even if God has to push me into the confessional and even if the priest has to be waiting outside for me.

As a scrupulous person myself, I never found the grave matter, full knowledge, full consent to be particularly helpful in discerning mortal vs venial sin because it's so subjective. Like, there's no official list of what constitutes a grave matter, and it's difficult to tell if you gave consent to something or if, for example, a thought just popped into your head and it took you a few seconds to realise. Of course, it's the official teaching of the Church so it's obviously the correct way to discern sin. I'm just saying that I don't personally find it very helpful. On another note, great video! This series has been really helpful for tackling these sins 😊

Let's start a 54 day Rosary novena for the reparation of sin tomorrow 10/12! Who wants to join along in prayer? P.S. Does being full only count if it's physically full if that makes sense? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’ve always had a major reaction to what is known as ‘food porn’ online I.e videos or pictures of really calorific, over the top type food like a huge cheeseburger dripping in cheese etc. it just always screamed gluttony to me, the body was not intended to eat something like that, it’s an end that was never intended.

i've been wanting to lose weight for years and gain muscle but i just had a chicken sandwich a caramello bar and soda for dinner after i told myself that the sandwich i made earlier was the last thing i was gonna eat today :/ i try not to feel bad when i overeat but there comes a point where i need to be honest with myself... i need to stop eating so much and remind myself that my body is a temple i'm gonna pick up intermittent fasting again (starting rn) and try to do better tomorrow :] ty amber for your videos! they've been so inspiring

Hi, I came across the same video and I saw your comment. I hope everything is okay! I struggle with sugar and caffeine, too. Need a reset because I'm eating sweets first thing in the morning and throughout the day. Anyways, please don't shame yourself over food. So much modern food is designed to make us feel overwhelmed, sick, and addicted. God doesn't want you beating yourself up. He just wants you to be happy, healthy, and able to enjoy his gifts. Sometimes I need reminders that healthy foods and things like my mom's homemade chocolate chip cookies are both gifts to be enjoyed and shared. Have you ever cooked something delicious from scratch, gone to a farmer's market or grown something in a garden? These do wonders healing our relationship with food! Prayer too. Sometimes I take a minute to thank God especially for my favorite fruit or vegetable on my plate before I dig in. And other times I thank him for the wonderful people who bake the delicious bread (or cookie) on my plate, the farmers who tend the wheat, and the God who tends the sunshine over the field. It helps me feel balanced and focused on the love of God versus bad about myself. Goodness knows it's a hard struggle. But we're all in this journey together! Keep your chin up! 🙂

Gluttony is kind of a sin in buddhism too. Bc its unhealthy. Buddha have adviced how to take meals. And basically we all do what is wrong

Anything here that relates to me is that I eat a lot, nothing else really is towards me, so I’m not even sure. If I do feel full I do stop but I do still eat more than I should. Trying to discern it lol

Abstinence from meat is still required on all Fridays of the year according to Canon Law. In the USA this sacrifice may be substitute, but there must be a substitution of a real sacrifice.

This is probably offensive but whatever, everytime I see a photo of Martin Luther and here how people think he was poor and virtuous. Im like "bruh he was born in the late 1400s and HES FAT!" Like everyone was starving back then lol you can tell he came from a wealthy family and struggles with pride and gluttony.

Looks like I'm guilty of all seven deadly sins. Eating too hastily? Is materialism and consumerism a form of gluttony too? I heard Wednesdays used to be a fasting day.

If you do ember days, Wednesday is a fast day while being a partial abstinence day. (Obviously not if it’s Ash Wednesday.)

Yes consumerism is a form of gluttony. Gluttony in many ways is like greed, and it may manifest in many different areas of your life. I think what it helps to understand gluttony in other forms then food consumpsion is asking if you can get addicted to it, that would range from becoming workoholic, substance abuse, spending money, sex, overendulging in pleasurrable (or sometimes not) activities to the point where it controls you. But again if you are addicted please seek help from a mental health profesional.

I'm sorry, are you saying "scripulous" or "scrupulous"? I'm not pointing out fault, just trying to understand meaning and perhaps that's a term specific to something to which I am ignorant. Thank you!
