I actually love the feeling of The Ordinary Azeliac acid cream. I use so many oily serums my face gets shiny, so I use the Azeliac acid last, and it mattifies my skin. I think it’s a drying, but silky feeling on my face. I love it

Same here lol. I have oily skin so the silky mattifying effect is nice. I don’t understand why people hate it so much. I’m assuming they are using something with it that makes it pill. All of my products work with it though so I’ve never had that issue 😅

I have been using the Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10 and so far I am loving it. The dry, matte feeling did bother me when I started, but I have found ways to get around that. During daytime the sunscreen is the last things I apply and at nighttime it's my rosehip oil. So, depending on when I use it (I use it once, every other day), I am topping it off with something non-drying/hydrating. That works for me.

I've never really had a problem with The Ordinary Azelaic Acid. I use it several times a week at night, alternating with my exfoliater. My routine is pretty simple, just cleanser, active and moisturizer (and sunscreen during the day) so there aren't many ingredients for it to interact with and since it's at night I don't have to worry about how it really looks under things, though I don't wear makeup either so I guess it doesn't matter too much.

I recently bought The Ordinary Azelaic Acid and I really like it. I use it at night before tretinoin and during the day after vitamin C and before sunscreen and foundation. I haven't found it gritty nor pilling. The Ordinary often learns from their mistakes and reformulates.

I didn't like the ordinary azeleic acid & their niacinamide serum on my face, but i found great use for these on my... armpits! I have stopped using deo since the pandemic happened & i discovered these products. While their niacinamide broke me out and their azeleic acid turns crusty & don't like other products in my routine, my dark & smelly armpits benefited from these two. No more B.O., and for the first time since teenage years, my hyperpigmented armpits visibly lightened. While there are still darker patches til now, i'm just happy with the overall results. I look forward to trying out your best azeleic acid recos. Thanks Cassandra!

I actually really love the texture of The Ordinary's azelaic acid. I use it as my primer, and it doesn't pill on me at all. Maybe it depends on your foundation. I use the L'oreal True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum Foundation, and they pair really well together. I have a lot of rolling & boxcar acne scars, and the azelaic acid really seems to help brighten my skin and give it a bit smoother appearance.

The Ordinary's Azelaic Acid is how I learned about The Ordinary many moons ago. I go through a tube a month and it's one of the few things I take with me when I travel. I have mild Papulopustular rosacea outbreaks regularly, and I like to do a layer of azelaic acid following by an oclussive cream two to 3 times a week overnight (I cleanse and treat right after I get home from work so my skincare can soak in before bed). It does amazing things for my redness, rosacea bumps, and occasional acne. And since I use so much, I just stick with the cheap stuff that works.

I use The Ordinary’s Azelaic acid all over my face as a “my skin but better”. I love how it evens out the skin and makes my pores super tiny. I use it instead of makeup - the only makeup I use is mascara and sometimes a little bit of brow-gel. Because it’s so difficult to have with other products I use spf serum drops under the Azelaic acid and/or spf setting powder (bare minerals has a good one). I’m also happy to say that my skincare have payed off! I’m happier with my skin now when I’m in my forties than I was in my twenties. And it’s all thanks to skincare, I haven’t used any fillers. Religiously using retinoids (TO Granactive Retinoid 2% and Geek&Gorgeous A Game 10) and galactomyces is my recipe for great skin! 😉😘

Azelaic is a hit or miss. I just stopped using all the acids, because I was killing my skin using salicylic and also azelaic too often. If you have cystic acne, I'd rather recommend a tea tree oil gel or a niacin gel or a zinc gel or a benzoyl wash (I wish I had that here) or something else that doesn't exfoliate. One would think that acids are a good thing but too much of the good thing will rip your skin off and then you will get a wound that will take ages to heal.

Paula’s Choice Azeleic Boost has been a huge help for me with my rosacea and this weird, rough texture I get around my nose area now. I don’t love the price but it’s worth it. I use it in place of toner / witch hazel. First thing on my face after washing. I wonder if the Skinfix wash would be helpful for Seborrheic Dermatitis (which is also a fungal yeast issue). 🤔

Dermatica actually also have a seperate 20% azelaic acid cream (with the most elegant formula of all, IMO). It doesn't contain salicylic acid, unlike a lot of other azelaic products, and it's not as matifying as Paula's Choice. It's great under makeup, makes the skin visibly smoother as the day goes on and it's available without signing up to the prescription subscription service.

Azelaic Acid is that ingredient that's multitalented, but difficult to understand, which is why it's quite difficult to find products that contain this ingredient. In my country, this ingredient isn't allowed to be used in otc products, so we only have prescription-strength (20%) Azelaic Acid cream that we can only get at pharmacies. Although the box says it requires prescription, anyone can buy it at pretty much any pharmacies without prescription. Same with Tretinoin, Adapalene, Isotretinoin, Hydroquinone, etc. I enjoy using Azelaic Acid gel because the texture isn't grainy, and it layers really well with other products.

Dermatica now also have a non prescription azelaic acid product with 20% azelaic acid which is in a lotion form that doesn’t ball up. (I don’t know if this is only available in Europe. But if it’s a ail able it can be found among their skincare product line alongside a moisturising lotion and a cleanser. Alongside that the Facetheory Lumizela azelaic acid serum is my favourite which works beautifully on the skin and comes in a propanediol compound that makes it very cosmetically elegant and perfect for drier skin types too.❣️

I do use and recommend Metroruboril from Isispharma (it's probably only available here in Europe and the UK). It's a 15% azelaic acid (here you can get 15% azelaic acid without prescription) which also contains niacinamide, centella asiatica, licorice root extract and green tea extract. It has a nice texture, it's not grainy and it doesn't peel at all. Hands down, one of the best azelaic acids - plus, it's not expensive at all (it cost me about 10-15 euros, depending where you get it from).

@@Alyumin I have rosacea and this product helps keeps it under control, but I would say do not expect it to do miracles - I did find it helpful for acne breakouts, but less on the redness aspect unfortunately (I have to say that I have a very stubborn rosacea, even after taking doxycycline/oracea, soolantra, it still bothers me and I’m still flushing like crazy). It’s definitely gentle on the skin, I would say start using it 3 or 4 days per week and if you want maybe increase it after a month or so. Patience is the key.

@@MB-wt3ei I don't use it for rosecea but for sun spots (along with other actives). I've been using it almost daily for a couple of months and have had no irritation at all, but my sun spots are still there. I sure hope patience is the key because azelaic acid, niacinamide, glycolic acid, retinal, vitamin C and SPF 50+ are the most I can do!

@@carob3323 I think that alpha arbutin might be helpful for you too. Doctor Dray recommended the alpha arbutin from Hada Labo - I also intended to use it for my rosacea, but it’s definitely useful for sun spots as well. Look it up and see if this could be something that you could use. Much love and hope your skincare journey goes well.

The only one I've tried is Paula's Choice and I love it. It doesn't pill as much if I don't use serums with it. I love my serums, so my method is to use it only at night and then slug over it. *Please be advised that it's not recommended to slug over a product that has the actives it contains!* The first time I tried slugging over it, I did it several hours before bed to see if I had any irritation and I didn't. Now I do it regularly. For reference, I slug with Cerave Healing Ointment or a generous layer of L'Oreal Collagen Cream (fragrance free). Side note, neither of those products are vegan, nor is Aquaphor, so if you are vegan, you would need to slug with pure petrolatum, a vegan product containing petrolatum, or a very occlusive moisturizer. *Also, not everyone with rosacea can slug, so please be careful if you try any of this.* I just wanted to share what has helped me. The best (least red) my skin ever looks is when I wake up after slugging.

I had high hopes for the TO azelaic acid but, as you said, it's gritty. It made me laugh when you said it could ball up/pill "a little bit" 'cause I hated that it pilled a helluva lot, so much so that I could only use it before bed. I'm using formulations from the Agency now. One has tretinoin .05% with 5% azelaic acid & another has 10% azelaic acid with kojic acid. They're not gritty at all & absolutely don't pill.

I've used an azelaic acid serum from Naturium, in the aim of treating hyperpigmentation and occasional mild acne. I'm not sure how helpful it was, I used up one bottle and then moved onto trying The Ordinary ascorbic acid (I'm new to skin care and want to try a few different things), but it was very pleasant to use, a nice serum that absorbed well and seemed to keep my mild acne under control.

I had to stop using the ordinary's azelaic acid. It piled like crazy the moment I tried to put anything else over it (like moisturizer or even SPF if I tried to use it in the daytime). It did get rid of the bumps on my cheeks and made my skin feel soft af though (did nothing with the bumps hiding underneath my forehead though). I seem to have the redness in rosacea and less of the acne part of rosacea though - but I'm still convinced the dimethicone base was not helping me at all.
