The Sony has a Cool Extra Feature that was not mentioned, the Speak to Chat feature will pause the music and turn on transparency mode when it detects that you are speaking. Useful when you have to interact with the world while out and about, something I wish the Max has without having to reach for the Crown AND Transparency button in two steps.

when just using the noise cancelation features on its own, no music playing, how much could you hear and understand with both? i’m not so much looking for really great headphones for listening to music as i am sound reduction as i have AWFUL migraines that leads to being incredibly sensitive to sound. i bought a cheaper pair and it only truly blocked out things like the AC running, and airpods pro don’t reduce as much as I’d want, though that may be impacted by a piercing i have. it’s been hard to find reviews that mention the pure silencing factor without sound playing for everyday sounds and especially people talking and how close to silent it gets in a loud room, but also in just a normal volume room

Didn't even talk about the dial on the surface headphones in the cool extra features section. Didn't talk about any of the touch controls or automatic stopping when you talk on the sony's. Didn't mention anything about codecs. I think the special features section was definitely lacking because that is where these headphones really differ. And you didn't at all mention mic quality which is huge as well. The Sonys don't have great microphones and have problems pairing with PCs. Your info on the headphones was very apple heavy. I get it they are your favourites but yeaaah not that helpful for someone whos looking for a different use case to yours and potentially doesn't have as much money as you. If you are with apple and have money then go for the airpods max obvs If you just want to listen to high-quality audio go with ony. if you want the all-around best headphones for calls and pairing with windows devices then go with the surface headphones.

The XM4 is the best pair of headphones I’ve owned. Super comfortable fit, excellent noise cancelling, and a really good sound quality. Dual device connection is great as well. you've obviously never owned bose headphones. the XM4's are absolute trash. they have GREAT sound, but that's it. they are uncomfortable to wear for long periods. Dual connection doesn't work well even with something as simple as an android phone and windows 10. they do NOT work with Samsung tv's??? ANC and sound is really good, but even if you don't like how they sound out of the box you can fine tune both in the sony app with eq etc. Also, the xm4 can connect to two devices at the same time and switches sources quickly (I would say nearly as good as my AirPods pro). My complaint about the Air Pods Max (other than price) is that it’s hard to wear them when I clean & move around. If I bend down they move forward and feel like they are falling. I do love how the ear pieces can be replaced. I had a few pairs of Beats prior & the ear pads tore apart on each after a year. I do wear them for 5 hours a day tho & would definitely buy them again, but I should go see a chiropractor for my neck.

I agree with your assessment. I have the Airpods Max and I just don't like how anaemic they are in the bass department. I have to drive them at near full volumes even in bass heavy tracks to enjoy the beats. They just don't cut it for me. I'm a basshead and I got them after listening to guys like Quinn from Snazzy Labs who gave glowing reviews to them and noted that they were "really bassy". I Wonder what bass did their ears hear!

I dont need boomy bass and other artificial things, I need neutral and clear and yes Bose has it. I can pair them with two devices at the same time, they have included cable, are super light and have extreme noise cancellation abilities. The microphone for calls in noisy environment no of the others can reach :-)

Have a battery-powered mower that's considerably quieter than gasoline, but still would like to cut down on noise while not feeling that I'm locked in a diving bell. Also want to use for Peloton. You know the thing about forgetting that you are wearing the Bose QC 35's actually happens to me with the 700's too. In fact, with the 700's I often don't even think about it. With their 20 hour battery life and the great comfort I can simply put them on in each morning when I wake up, wear them all day, then put them on the charger when I go to bed. All with no risk of running out of battery or or my ears beginning to hurt. Also dispite my 700's being more than a year old and are regularly charged overnight (which tends to lead to over charging) the battery life has not been noticeably depleted and still lasts all day even now. Edit: By the way, this comment isn't meant to dispute your verdict. I simply want to give people a basis on which to judge the other headphones

I haven't even watched the video yet but let me recommend against bose. The sound delay is terrible. The Bose app for the phone caused my Bose headset to start to desync severely and create noise crackle. The sound canceling function fails whenever it deals with soft ambient noise and even amplifies some sounds because of how it's desynchronized or over-responsive. I got the nicest wireless headset bows offers too. I forget which model though.

I have both the xm4 and the airpod max. My only apple device is just an Ipad......trust me the Airpod max is worth it, you get spatial audio(cinema liked audio) which is insanely good on netflix, you get transparency mode which sounds so natural that no other headphone could simulate that, you get far superior "clean and crisp" sound than the xm4 no matter how you EQ the settings in the xm4, you can hear so much details in the instrument that you can't hear in the xm4, you get a really "premium" comfort and build quality and magnetic replaceable earpads. For the xm4, i love to bring them around attached to my neck and they are my on-the-go headphones. They are both really good headphones, but now I would want to sell away my xm4 because I have the intention using the APM as my full time daily driver.

Look into the Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds are also something to look into! theyre about $280 and are up there, no issues about them for everyday wear and working out. But I recommend Airpod Maxs for working in the same spot for hours.

The airpod max are ridiculously over priced headphone for what they offer. As well as the ridiculous case that you must have in order to turn the headphone off. The sony's are the best for something like that.

Like just normal closed headphones? It's hard to make a "best" recommendation on those as there are so many, but I know SoundGuys has a lot of great guides. I've always been a fan of the Audio Technica ATH-M50x personally. I've probably bought 3 pairs over the years, and they were what I used in college before ANC headphones became more popular.

I bought the Bose 700's a year or so ago after the foam started coming out of my Sony headphones (used them a lot). And I'm glad you mentioned you thought the sound wasn't great, because I was also quite surprised at how much better my old Sony ones sounded. A little disappointed, to be honest. Also think the noise cancelling is somewhat subpar Think I'll buy another Sony pair next.

@@tomslaterdesignillustratio4391 you're very welcome - hope they work well! Since you mentioned sleeping, I'll note that I'm a side sleeper and can't use headphones. So I use AirPods Pro and just pop one in my left ear to fall asleep to an audiobook every night. The other ear is against the pillow, so it creates pretty good isolation. Just thought I'd mention that if you end up having trouble falling asleep with large headphones on.

I agree about the one issue with the AirPod Max (APM) sound quality being the bass, at least for my ears, but I’m not sure I’d simply say that the Sony is better there. To my ears the APM have some real strong points in the bass, it goes deeper than the Sony and it is clearer and better controlled than the Sony so those are both areas where I would say the APM bass is better than the Sony. My disappointment with the APM bass though, which is why I understand people giving the win to the Sony for bass, is that the APM bass seems to lack some punch and energy especially in the region around where you typically find the kick drum. If only the APM not only had the depth and control of the bass but also had the dynamic punchy nature of the XM4 in the bass frequencies that would be close to perfection for my preferred sound signature.

I've never worn headphones for that long, but the QC35 are bar none the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. My Barsone headphones were $40, and they don't exist on Amazon anymore. They are light, and the noise canceling is helpful (not all the best, but it works for me.) I've had them for at least 2.5 years, and they haven't failed me, the battery life is good, but I sometimes forget to turn off the ANC; other than that, it lasts me over a week until I need to charge again. One of the ear cups is ripped, but I don't feel the inside of the ear cups while wearing it. If I wanted new ones, I would get them again if they were still available. Otherwise, I would still look around for some better ones. My price range was $20-$50 when purchasing these, just for context.

I've owned both XM4 and Max, the Max sound better (basically airpods pro but in headphone form) but I dont feel like I could ever take them away from my desk, they're heavy and feel delicate. XM4 feel like they're meant for travel, I could take them anywhere without worrying, and they have better confort and fit.

I got the bose qc 35's a couple of weeks ago from amazon, I love them but I can always return them, do you think that I should return them and instead get the sony xm3's (xm4 is 100 more and it just isn't worth it for me) or keep the bose.

Depends on the price you want to pay - the QC's are like $100 less, and they're still really really good! I just found the XM4 to be marginally better in everything except comfort. I think you'll be happy with either though. As for the XM3, I didn't test those but SoundGuys has a comparison here: www.soundguys.com/sony-wh-1000xm4-vs-sony-wh-1000xm3-38479/

Excelente review !! I got the XM4’s on sale Back in December but I wasn’t impressed at all with the sound quality like everyone else is. Maybe I have defected ears, lol. They are very comfortable and the NC feature is pretty Good but not mind blowing in my opinion, transparency mode sucks on them. Compared to my AirPods Pro, so I returned them. Cause I found them to sound the same as my Beats Studio wireless from 2014…But the Sony’s are much more comfortable of course, and way better Noise canceling. Anyway I bought the AirPods Max in June and I’m very happy with them. Better sounds quality than the Sony’s, better NC, transparency mode, better quality materials, very comfortable as well, better integration with all my Apple devices etc.. My only problem with the AirPods Max is the price (too dam high !) and the lack of volume , I wish they were a bit louder. Overall it’s great!

You wasted money on the airpod max over something $200 cheaper that is almost no different? Not to mention doesn't have the ridiculous case the max comes with where you cannot even turn the headphone off unless you have it in that case. Makes no sense.
