PLOT: Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio are formerly married petroleum engineers who still have some issues to work out. They are drafted to assist a gung-ho Navy SEAL (Michael Biehn) with a top-secret recovery operation: a nuclear sub has been ambushed and sunk, under mysterious circumstances, in some of the deepest waters on Earth.

I remember settling in to watch the nearly 4-hour director’s cut of this film, and being totally immersed in it. No joke intended. Just don’t know a better word for how riveting it was.

@@stevencoardvenice Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson are great in Rain Man and Batman. Haven’t seen the rest. But I think these are two of the best acting performances I’ve ever seen

@@hvitekristesdod Oh I'm just pointing out how amazing the competition was that year. Just look at the best actress nominees for example. Those are some of the best actresses of all time ALL NOMINATED IN THE SAME YEAR!!! 1989 was a tough year Jodie foster has multiple Oscar's. Meryl Streep too. Glenn close has like 9 nominations. It would be like being up against Deniro Pacino Daniel day Lewis all in the same year. Watch Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction (1987) to see another phenomenal performance. As a crazy ex gf
