This is a very good topic. At the end of the day, low level accounting jobs will be eliminated but high level accounting jobs will survive cos accounting and auditing require lots of estimation and professional judgement applying substance over form concept and there are still potential errors and frauds in a good internal control system. We still need some highly skilled accountants to detect errors and frauds and make professional judgement and do financial analysis.

I just had this conversation with someone. I will graduate with a master of science in accounting next year. But we are learning to use data analytics tools. On my own, I am going to get a cert in mySQL.

FYI, I used to work at a Norwegian company and we were already thinking of integrating the data from our T&E (travel & entertainment) provider's system with our ERP. This would probably have cut at least one quarter of a headcut. This was in 2005, btw. The Scandics are very advanced technologically, so Bill, what you are envisaging is probably already happening in Norway, Sweden, Finland & Denmark, in a relatively big way. Reason is their pay scales are higher than other countries, so they make it imperative to manage costs.

yep, I'm in transportation, we don't touch invoices, factoring, and fuel bill at all. I review them to make sure they are good.

I don't know if I'd worry about it. When I was in college in 2002, there were many articles talking about all the jobs that would be gone in just fifteen years. All of those jobs are still here, and in fact, there are shortages of workers to take those jobs. The only thing that will take accounting away in my opinion are robots, and they are coming, but I think it'll be more like 2060 when they completely take over 80% of all of the jobs.

We’ve officially gotten to the point that too many robots (computers) are taking over jobs. This is a problem. Technology is great, when it works properly, but we can’t just keep on letting it take over everybody’s jobs. I get the companies do it to save money and earn more profits, but nobody will be able to afford to buy the products if nobody has jobs. 🤔

Nobody needs a job, people just need goods and services. This is actually something quite obvious, but most people fail to understand. If, indeed, all the relevant work is taken by machines, we will just need to find ways to distribute the goods and services provided. We don't need to halt technology just to keep artificial demand for "jobs".

@@Igor_054 perfectly stared. Even in many indigenous societies today people do not work in a sense that we relate to. But I mean if a robot could complete my tasks and help society function and I can return to hunting and fishing all day then that’s a much better quality of life imo.

@@Igor_054I already have a strange suspicion that there will be some people that will stare straight at this problem and think to themselves: “….yeahhhh, I’m gonna figure out a way to keep you/me working”. Like they’ll have some fascination or attachment to working. So much that they might actually think we should use our time and effort (when we no longer have to) so we can acquire things we need simply because they think it’s right.

Not fun to take a step back. I also notice from the requirements that nowadays they are no longer eager to hire an accountant. I'm already looking around to see what other work is possible😢

If it will not be automated by robots. It will be outsourced by people from poor countries. Especially now with "Remote Work Trend" You can technically outsource any office job, and I really mean any office job, that including Programming/Developer/Soft.. They don't need robots, they just need Internet..

If accounting is automated will an Accounting degree still be as valuable and respected as a Business admin degree or will it become like gender studies? I have been accepted for transfer to an Accounting BS program at an AACSB accredited college but I was also accepted to a Nursing program elsewhere and I know that job is automation proof. I am torn from all the conflicting information I'm getting and would appreciate some advice if you have knowledge of Accounting automation. The one good thing about the Accounting degree I could possibly pursue is that the college is offering very generous fin aid and I could graduate with less than $10k in debt so if Accounting does get automated I will not be too far in debt for the degree.

Take on coding only if you have the bandwidth, it will come in handy in the future. But what’s more basic and important is learning functionality of ERP software throu hands on experience and watching online tutorials.

If I have a little bit of an AP background, it seems like it would be a lot of work to become a controller or go into FP&A. I'm not interested in becoming a CPA at all. My sister isn't, and she's been in roles as a controller and CFO. However, she got her MBA in Finance. What do you think about going this route? I already have a Master's in Public Administration, which turned out to be worthless. However, I can definitely succeed in an academic environment if it were worth my time. Thanks for the videos; I really enjoyed the one featuring a day in the life of Accounts Payable.

They will stay but will have to learn automation and relying on software rather than human work for most tasks. Those who cannot learn automation tools will be out.

Automation will impact all types of accountants. Ultimately, automation will make jobs fewer but more lucrative. So if you stick with it, learn systems

Bits and pieces of RTR is being automated already (Billing, SBC, AP). But the good news is you still need people to work more on the analysis side if Billing, AP etc to scale the business

Well nothing is overnight of course :) but generally these 2 roles are difficult to replace with software

To be fair though, systems glitch because of human errors. I’ve even caught double billing and payments. So if they do that hopefully new ones open up to check for errors

Many jobs will remain but will just change in nature. Just make sure to learn financial systems such as ERP.

No it is 2026 to 2030 Already Tesla Launched Humanoid Robots and Most of the Robots Like Ameca, Sophia, Alter 3 are Very Unbelievable In 2022 so many Possibilities it will be gone in 2026 to 2030
