The Advantages of Direct Thread Suppressors

In this video we're going over the three main reasons to consider using a direct thread suppressor system. If you don't need the convenience of a fast attach mount interface, using a direct thread adapter makes the whole package shorter, lighter, and simplifies tuning the gun.
You don't have to do it but you might wanna.

As for me, I take ALL these so called KZfaqrs channels as what they truly are Entertainment, howbeit not very good for the most part. Years before owning a silencer, the biggest issue I watched people have is having to constantly check and tighten their direct thread silencer. I use a direct thread on my hunting rifle since it'd only be 1-2 shots, but I'm still going to put a qd on it. All my other rifles have a qd/brake. You simply get a superior connection between the rifle and silencer. To me the other pluses are moot points in comparison. Excellent video as always though Hop.

@hkfifty871 Ай бұрын
For me it was partly cost (I don’t have much desire to buy additional muzzle devices for each different firearm I may want to suppress), partly a reluctance to be locked in to one specific muzzle device without knowing what I’ll think of it if/when I decide to shoot unsuppressed, and partly the worry that years down the road the suppressor industry will start chasing some other “latest and greatest” attachment method rendering mine obsolete and impossible to find replacements for. Direct thread ain’t fancy, but it’s cheap, it works, and it will basically always be an option for whatever firearm I may want to put my can on, and that makes it a winner for me.

I like having the taper or even an extra locking piece to prevent the can from walking off, mainly just because of my own neurotic concerns than any evidence so far that would happen. It's more of a peace of mind thing but I guess since the time investment isn't so intense now due to reduced waiting periods even that is less of a problem. Suppressor compatible muzzle devices keep the threads protected but that feels like reaching for a reason these things should exist. I guess I just like them because they're neat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good food for thought. For me, blast baffle erosion on my 10.3 is somewhat of a concern, having a brake to act as a sacrificial baffle is appealing, despite the added weight. Yes form 4s are clearing in days now but replacing a suppressor is still a not insignificant extra expense. As for transport, I don't care about making the gun super compact, I care about a hot can melting the foam in my case, being able to use a hi-temp suppressor pouch to remove and store the can after a range trip is very nice.

The funniest thing about this is Hop got me thinking “I really need a quick detach system for rifles X and Y to use can Z.” Up to now I’ve been using direct thread only, partly because of potential tolerance stacking and partly because of weight/length/cost concerns. I don’t need fast swap capability; however, with a .30 caliber can there’s a good argument for some form of muzzle device on each of those rifles when they *don’t* have the can attached. And “NO” I am not buying a dedicated can for every freedom dispenser no matter how short the wait time is today.

Direct thread with wrench flats is by far the best budget mounting system. I would like to make a counter point that direct thread muzzle brakes pinned in place are the superior option for signature reduction. Your target can’t locate you if they’re blinded and deafened. -this comment brought to you by ban state gang.

I think qd makes sense for guys like yours truly who only own one can but a couple of host weapons. Being able to shoot 300blk,556,308 gives you a lot of options. However my next can will inevitably be a direct thread 556 can.

I'll probably get a direct thread .556 instead of a QD for my next can. I have a DT 22 can and a QD 762 can right now, but the suppressor wait times make a DT can so much more worth it.

I like a taper mount personally. I can see how direct thread would have it's benefits, but ive always seen and had issues with them walking off. You can have a 1/2x28 or 5/8x24 nut machined to lock your direct thread can in place better. thread the nut all the way onto the barrel, thread your suppressor on over it and then back the nut up so that it tightens against the suppressor.

Really considering direct thread for my 10” 300blk build I’m doing. I wanted a riflespeed gas system but it’s been difficult finding the right barrel/ hand guard combo size to go with it. May stick to a more simpler adjustable one.

DT all the way, unless its huxwrx flow. 3-4.5oz less on the end of the gun makes a big difference to me, also shorter you can get a 13.7 as short overall as a 12.5 with a QD attached depending on suppressor and QD I think a lot of people overlook OAL.

My first can was a Gemtech Trek II. Not because Hop had one but because it was the cheapest can in the store and I predominately shot 5.56 at the time. I distinctly recall being very happy with how it sounded on my 11.5 with an Odin Works adjustable gas block. Noticeably quieter to the shooter than my buddies YHM Resonator K and they are similar in dimensions overall. That is a .30 cal can but…from that moment I actually was a big fan of direct thread. Our guns were very similarly configured but mine was quieter and less expensive. Since then I also grabbed a resonator K that moves between my 6 arc and 6 creed, and it’s nice…but my DeadAir Wolfman stays as a direct thread item on my GHM-9 because it is also noticeably quieter and lighter, even in K configuration, then it is with a KeyMo adapter.

I tried to explain this to a friend of mine who is recently in to guns and just got his first can(s). He works as an engineer for a car manufacturer and broke it down like this after trying and realizing that bigger isn’t always better. Weight on the end of the barrel is the same thing as unspiring mass on on your car. Oz’s = LBS.

At the moment, my DDC enticer Ti L and Ti S are running DT mounts, but they are dedicated to two rifles. Eventually i am going to send my old GA m4sd2 to Ecco machine up have it converted to hub mounts, and run the plan b mounts from readen. If I could go it over again I would have held off from buying the m4sd2 and Recce 7, do more research, and got something with hub threads instead. Thankfully Ecco machine is around.

Thanks Hop When it comes to muzzle devices, the only benefit that I've seen is that with a Witt Tool & Machine Mod1 on an AR pistol, the can is not very effective with a flash hider. But the same can with a single chamber break on an AR pistol sounds about the same as the can on a 16" gun with a flash hider. And really, on an AR pistol with a flash hider mount the Mod1 has very little benefit, flash is extraordinary and report is hardly effected.

I shoot unsuppressed sometimes due to length and weight so having a bare muzzle isn't the best experience. I like having a flash hider. Also when shooting long range with long strings of fire I find shooting unsuppressed is easier since I'm not looking through a shit ton of mirage from the heat coming off the suppressor
