Virgil's Aeneid is the Ancient Roman epic penned as a sequel to Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, that tells the story of the Trojan War and its aftermath from a hero on the Trojan side, Aeneas. The epic poem has dramatic scenes, personal and cosmic in scale. Following Aeneas from Troy's fall, the end of the world as he knew it, through his struggles to rebuild, and glimpses into the glorious future to come. All of this is due to a careful relationship between the past and future, and knowing what is worth carrying out of the flames, and what must be left behind in the old world.
Mythos & Logos are two ancient words that can be roughly translated as “Story & Meaning.”

I’m a Classics student who needed a refresher to pique my interest and motivate me to write a paper - this was such a beautifully narrated and polished video. The musical thematics were perfect, immediately subscribed! Thank you 🏺

I am so, so happy to hear this. This channel serves as (more than anything else) an account of how I’m affected by the stories I encounter, like everyone who has heard them over millennia has their own encounters with them, too. But since education is a side-effect of telling these stories (I was a teacher for a year, but it wasn’t right for me) I am so thankful for you and the others who study them. Feel free to keep in touch; it will be exciting to follow any work you do or interesting stories that you find!

Thank you for joining the third and final part of our series on Trojan War epics! While it may be separated by centuries and half a continent, the themes of the Aeneid certainly carry on from the Iliad and Odyssey. If you missed the first two episodes, be sure to take a look at the links below! I’m especially proud of the introspective look at the Iliad. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7R_gbiep7bKqqM.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bLmKrMWLu7yXXaM.html See you next time for something completely different, a collection of stories of Avalokiteśvara/Guan Yin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.

Very well done. He was a very important figure both in founding Rome as well as being the ancestor of the Welsh nobility. Primarily King Maximus. In many ways he carries our people on his shoulders still.

Hey Mr. Mythos and Logos! In a sense, we have to carry our father, as in our past, through the scoring sea of misfortunes, to a new land, where a encounter, with good that would be the welcoming stranger, and the evil that is hostile stranger, to redeem our spirit, through the union of opposites, like he did, birthing Rome, as a new best of me and best of you sort of pact. Is that tracking with the story, at all? Thank you for presenting these stories in a digestible manner. Peace be with you.

Yes, that is exactly the message I've been trying to communicate with this! Great point differing between the hostile and friendly stranger, too. I think that it is a very universal story about emerging from a traumatic event and building something new going forward.

@@vimalpatel4060 Definitely! Saving one's father from the underworld (or in Pinocchio's case, the belly of the whale) is definitely a recurring theme.
