100% they are like bettas or cichlids... they each are very unique. But ive found all the fish ive gotten as young adults or fry- i can get to feed from my hands...which is really endearing

Can I ask you if you have aggression problems between males and females and if you keep them with other types of fish?

@@AnnaMariaCiniErak Hello. I don't keep them anymore, but only recall the males getting a little snippy if another got up in its space. I never experienced major aggression, but a fully planted tank is key. They need lots of line of sight breaks and areas to go pout if needed. Mine could be moody 🤣

Thanks, and Yeah, haha they are literally the first tropical fish bred in Europe (1869 specifically, in Paris, by Pierre Carbonnier)

Love this :) Reminds me of a few of my bettas who would come and swim into a cupped hand in the aquarium. I stopped doing that years because i was afraid i contributed to giving one of them a bacterial infection, but that was probably just paranoia. Still though, holding my little fishes is a really nice memory :)

Im glad you have good memories with your fish :) And Yes, these guys live in an outdoor open pond with no aeration or filtration, so i kind of figured as long as my hands were cleaned in isopropyl alcohol, and then rinsed after evaporating it off- that id be fairly safe to handle them... i mean honestly the first time I held one, i was moving rocks in their pond and they kept rubbing on my arm, so i tried a little pat on the head and back, and they were okay with it, so i picked them up and they would sometimes hop out of my hand, but always circle back around for more- like an amusement park ride or something hehe.

This was awesome! Years ago I had a bunch of Chichlids that used to come into my hands every time I was working on the tank. They used to rub against my hands & fingers weirdest feeling ha ha.

They are so underrated. I bought 5 fry on AquaBid a few years ago, grew them up and sold them. They were so cool, each one had a very distinct personality. 👍❤👍

@@Fishtory I have just ordered a breeding pair of the spechti (black paradise). They are great fish and I would take them over Bettas any day of the week. They generally hassle anything that has long flowing fins and that hangs around towards the top of the tank. Anything lower down is safe.

Try online perhaps? They are cheap when available here...like $5 but they arent super common here in Seattle either.

Check AquaBid online. I got 5 baby albino paradise fish from a seller on there. I grew them up and sold them. They were awesome fish, each one had a different personality.

@@Fishtory I saw them once at Wal-Mart many years ago back when they sold fish. Can they survive outdoor during winter in Seattle?

@@fuanasantuary1277 no they won't survive frost I don't think, but they can handle pretty close to freezing Temps. I know people in Texas, Florida and California who keep them outside all year
