The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has proposed a new directive for Airbus A380 operators to inspect the feet of the metallic alloy main wing ribs of both wings according to instructions published by the manufacturer. This was not the first time the regulator was forced to issue instructions for storage-related issues for the aircraft, with several other directives preceding this latest publication.

Not a good situation for Airbus to be in, but at lease EASA and the plane maker is reacting the right way! Another reason for doing correct maintenance on a plane, finding issues you didn't even know existed AND DEALING WITH THEM!

Interesting that it includes MSN 097, which was never build. Not sure who/how that is going to be done.

The weird thing is that the wing for the A380-800 is actually too large and took the -900 version into account. As such it's surprising how many issues the A380 has with its wing design.

If they optimised it for this specific variant it would have been better

@@Tpr_1808 Exactly the opposite, as the wing would have been smaller with less material, different static layout and thus under more stress during operations. Parking is one issue, but not the only issue the wing design has.

Yes. The wing was actually designed for MTOW of 600 tonnes

That is interesting. Too bad the A380-900 (and other planned variants) never made it to the real world.

@@EuropeanRailfan They depended on how the -800 would sell. Emurates qould be the only ones interested in anything else
