In this video, I discuss Swedish sludge/doom act ABANDON, the tragic passing of their vocalist Johan Carlzon, and their third album THE DEAD END that released posthumously to Carlzon’s death.
The songs featured in this video come from Abandon’s first demo, Dark Days Ahead, as well as the track “There is No Escape” from The Dead End. I do not own this music, all rights belong to Abandon and Blackstar Foundation.

Hey all, I realize that I probably butchered a lot of names in this video. I did my best to find pronunciations on all of them, but I know some of it definitely was incorrect. If any of the members of Abandon see this, I apologize if I got your name wrong!

I'm one of the people you mention at the end who found the album through RYM. The album's overwhelming sense of grief and sorrow is palpable, but I had no idea that it was an actual eulogy of sorts. Thanks for providing some of that history. Really makes the music feel even more gut-wrenching than it already was.

Clicked on the video knowing the band name sounded vaguely familiar, as soon as you namedropped Johan Carlzon I knew it was Elize’s brother (as you can tell from my profile pic, I’m somewhat of a fan of herself and her main project Amaranthe). Very informative video, I’ve always been interested in the full story behind this tragedy. Everything Elize is doing in music today is in some way in remembrance of her dear brother.

Love that you made a diagnosis video about the album. This was actually my intro album to funeral doom metal, and I too discovered it through RYM, around August of 2022, but didn't get around to listening til the first week of 2023. My favorite funeral doom album out there.

Many informations I did not know about the band. I've got their first two albums in my collection but the first one "When it Falls Apart" is my favourite. Would like to know your opinions about another great Swedish sludgecore band called siebensünden (which means 'seven sins' in German).

Wood of Ypres Grey Skies & Electric Light Very strange and depressing coincidences in the lyrics because David Gold (founder, writer, front man) died shortly before its release, and exact details of his death have not been officially released. But it was some kind of roadway incident. I would love to see a video on it.

@dante_dagger It's honestly the only "celebrity" death that has really affected me. I loved his music.
