A lot of people don't realize how much power you can make with these AMG cars. You can find some solid examples of the earlier years of SL55 AMG for about $15k now, which to me makes it one of the best used performance car values on the market today. Unfortunate that they happened to blow up the motor in this one, but there are guys making 700+ hp with these cars with just bolt-ons and fuel system upgrades. Even if the early years of these cars are getting older, they still look great and it's hard to beat having a beautiful looking car and upwards of 700hp for $20k-$25k

Theres no such thing as a custom tune unless your car is actually on the dyno actively being tuned, theres alot of talk about “custom” email tunes tailored to your mods but long story short no 2 engines are the same, also tunes don’t require a break in period, once its tuned its tuned. If youll be making that much power with a pulley thats small you need to install more cooling mods before you run the car at all, i have a 70mm clutched pulley on mine, have bigger HE, 5 gal trunk tank, bigger pump etc, cooling is very important sorry yall had to learn the hard way but im sure due to excessive IATs it caused pre-detonation/knock to happen, therefore increasing the cylinder temps so on and so forth. Supporting mods are always always a need. Does the car have headers? If it dosent it needs them, you need the same amount of air going out than is coming in, youll gain significantly with a free flowing exhaust! Look into getting a AFR gauge and an upgraded valve body, stock one is very soft and slow, with that much torque your bound to start slipping in the future, learned that after my trans went out, got new SGA 150 VB and big improvement and peace of mind. Goodluck to yall!
@TMWYT3 жыл бұрын
Yes we ran it before installing the cooling upgrades, it is what it is. Had to learn the hard way. And we have switched to a local tuner who will tune the car while driving with data logs and such

I don't think its cooling because there r alot of sensors for the temp and the supercharger is clutched so like he said going down the canyon the supercharger would be disengaged. I think the problem was with the fuel injectors, bigger then what was in the tune hence more fuel, AF gauge is something that would have avoided this and helps out alot with making sure everything is running fine and seeing a problem straight away since the ecu has a buffer of like 25% or more before CEL

MY SL55 P/30 is my forever car and that is why I did very minor mods to the engine. If I want to go faster - I just get on my Ducati. These motors are virtually bulletproof as long as you don't go to crazy on the mods. Sorry to hear you blew up that $35,000+ motor.

That 72mm pulley even with tune and supporting mods (injectors, fuel pump) is overkill without touching the cooling system which I noticed was not mentioned in the beginning. IAT killed it and even with data logging, it wasn't going to help. The superchargers on these cars have at least 2-3 safety features in the event that the IAT becomes high. Look into split cooling and larger heat exchanger or if you're going to keep that pulley set-up, go for a killer chiller. Lots of info you can find on the web especially now that these M113K engines are getting a lot of aftermarket support than ever, most owners are now hesitant to sell their cars because of it. Good luck on your next build.

You built too much boost pressure and blew the head gaskets. First mod for building any real horse power on any stock boosted engine is to get that exhaust flowing more air! Switching out muffler is a minimum and headers with high flow cats are best on boosted engines.
