In case you couldn't tell, Jodi's spirit was trying to warn/scare the family away. Basically to save them. The Preacher spirit was trying to destroy them. Which is why you see Jodi being held on the ceiling by another spirit.

@@AustinFoss00 Really? American characters in movies are very prone to killing and the revenge before justice mentality is very rampart in both movies and outside of them. The amount of American reactors who screams “just kill him!” When watching movies Is astounding. So being American doesn’t necessarily include everyone but there is no denying it’s uncommon for this to happen.

No parent should EVER tell their child/children that you don't believe them when they try to tell the people they trust the most in the world that they're wrong ! Parents need to listen to what their kids are saying or experiencing . I say this due to personal experiences. I ALWAYS listened to my girls because my experiences were very similar ! So, yes, what I'm saying is that some things in this movie hit close to home.

Fun watching with you guys :) It was a treat to see you both watch this for the first time. I love all horror but when it comes to my favorites, I'm definitely in the tradition of the originals. I absolutely love older horror movies. The classics..where the suspense builds and seeing less cheap jump scares and special affects .. where are own mind and imagination does most of the work. This remake wasn't bad but the original is way better to me. It is the epitome of your classic haunted house movie with also the true crime aspect of the story. I have always been into true crime so I know a lot about the true story of the Defeo murders in 1974...it has always been the most intriguing part of the story, the 6 murders for me is the true "horror" . Whether you actually believe in the Lutz ghost story or not, the fact remains that Butch Defeo did actually kill his entire family in that house and that to me is terrifying 👻 🎃 🔪

Definitely preferred the slow build up of the horror in the 1979 version. Also in that George is more influenced by the house to not trust his own eyes and all that. It also felt more like there were kind of trapped there. Having really no other place to go and having all their money $$ tied up in the house. In this George is pretty much straight up possessed, kills the dog and axe's his wife in the gut. So it's a bit absurd that they just tie him up and take him with them having ZERO clue if just taking him away from the house was going to snap him out of it. Plus the stuff at the house was just too intense too early on that it makes you wonder why they didn't leave sooner. If my kid climbed up on the roof because she wanted to go where the little girl who died in the house was? Well any good parent would've taken them out of there ASAP!

For Mr Movies: The house used in this version was in Salem, Wisconsin. The Front part with the Eye Shaped Windows was added on to make it look a little more like the real house looked. The Original movie used a different house in New Jersey. The jump scares get funny after a while in this. George's eyes opening with the loud horror music was just ridiculous! I LOL'd at that!

First off I subscribed to you lovely people today! Second, when he was telling the kid he can call him whatever he wants, it reminded me of when my dad told me the story on my older brother and him. Before I came along. My dad had started dating my mom and eventually got her out of a crappy home and into a nice apartment with him. My brother was around 2 at the time. He came home disappointed cuz his bio dad said he would take him fishing but never showed up so my brother stayed with his grandparents that weekend. He got back just a sad mess, crying and wondering why his bio dad never showed. My dad grabbed fishing gear and took my brother fishing. Awhile after that, my bro came to my dad and said "Is it okay if I call you dad?" He gave him the best response. "You can if you want to bud." Ahhh my heart. Parents are divorced now but I have good relationships with mom dad and bro.

I live about 20 minutes west of this house on Long Island. When this movie came out all of us kids of driving age would grab a case of beer and invite some girls and go to see the house. I myself didn't see what the big deal was after the first time. Other than the fact it was easy to get the girls to go. LOL. It was a Large colonial? house next to an inlet in an upper middle class area. Long Island is filled with houses similar to this one so after you saw it once.....It was on a small side street that only had room for one car at a time on it. So it was a long wait to actually get to the house once you were on the street. If memory serves, a few years prior, a teenage boy actually killed his entire family in the house so thats were they got the "haunted" idea from. Fun fact. Jaws the movie was shot in Marth's Vineyard. But Peter Benchley the author was VERY familiar with Long Island and would often go to The Hamptons to party and or relax. The Hampton's for who that don't know, is a playground for the rich and famous and about an hours drive east of Amityville. Jaws the book was actually based in South Hampton. But to get to South Hampton you HAVE TO literally drive by Amityville. So the fictional town of Amity in the book is most likely named after Amityville. The same town this house is in.

Facts about The Amityville Horror (2005) To create a higher level of performance, Ryan Reynolds decided not to bond with the actors and actresses that played the children in the movie. He became rather distant so that when his character (George) started to change, he wouldn’t have any issues when he had to inflict verbal or physical abuse on them. He was so distant during this time that the children truly thought that Reynolds did not like them. It was a special pair of contact lenses that Ryan Reynolds wore in many of the scenes that were responsible for creating the effect that his eyes were black with a white ring surrounding them.

Another fine video!! But as the Mrs is not familiar with Kiss, maybe we can get her a digital copy of the album "Kiss: Alive II" (for Love Gun) and all sit and watch her listen :) (how about that? A video just listening to music? Man I bet that would be exciting. Hahahaha)

The real life Lutz family, who always stood by their claims the story wasn't a hoax and the house really was demon-infested or something, tried to sue over this remake. George Lutz watched it and, among the very, very few things he said it got right was "we owned a telephone." I personally don't like this movie, but regardless of entertainment value the way it was explicitly marketed as "A True Story" when there had been heavy, heavy doubt cast on the veracity of the original events for decades AND the film's plot bears virtually no resemblance to the book or the actual Lutz' claims anyway is pretty crummy.

Something positive about the remake: Ryan Reynolds' abs. And no, the house in this version looks nothing like the real house or the house in the original films. The first three Amityville movies were shot at a house in Toms River, New Jersey; the 2005 movie was shot at a house in Salem, Wisconsin. Neither house actually had the gambrel roof or quarter moon windows that gave the real house its trademark look, so partial facades were built onto the houses for all four films. The house in Toms River was at least roughly the right shape and size, while the Wisconsin house used for the remake is practically a mansion.

I love the original, but this one is pretty entertaining (even beyond the sheer gorgeousness that is Ryan Reynolds). One of the subtle things they did that always creeps me out is the way George's eyes change. Ugh. *shudders*

The Lutzes have admitted that they made their experiences at the house up, they did it to make money. It worked they made a ton of money. It is a great story that kept me awake many nights after reading the book, which is far scarier than the movie.

No there Lawyer said he and the father came up with the story and made it up but he said this year's after the Father was already dead so we have only his word. For the record, though I never believed this story regardless.

@Ben Gibson It should be obvious their claims are false because ghosts arent real lol. However, the family themselves never said they made it up it was the Lawyer who said after the father died that he and he made it up.

@@boomstickcritique902 Just because _you_ think 'ghost' aren't real, doesn't make it so. Just be glad you've never experience anything supernatural. I don't believe in ghost either (i.e., spirits of dead human beings wandering around the earth) but nonhuman spirits, for sure. As far as the house being haunted, I wouldn't know one way or the other as I've never been there, so I can't answer that.

I do love this movie and I love Malissa George. This movie is based on the book that the couple wrote after moving in and they sadly got a lot of people claiming they are crazy or fame seekers. Ryan himself wanted the kids to stay scared of him in a way so he never interacted with them off camera or showed his true nature as a nice person. I never saw the original but this one is creepy as hell so to speak. Good reaction by the way. Also the one who killed his family before the new couple moved in claimes that he was posessed but also that he didn't kill the younger siblings because that was his sister's doing I do wonder if that's true...oh well I guess no one will ever know for sure.

I only watched the original. This franchise was based on book written by a paranormal couple who took advantage of the popularity of movies like the Omen and a desire for these type of stories. They concocted this and in the process made the people who own the house ironically a living hell, they've tried to hide it from google maps so curious people will leave them alone.
