Overall, the lecture was balanced. I appreciate the attempt to be objective during the main part of the lecture. Unfortunately, a few statements were made at the end which were problematic. Imam Malik was known for staying in Madinah. I'm pretty sure he travelled less than Abu Hanifa. Also, the speaker repeated the same silly claim that many hadith biased people have stated about Abu Hanifa - that he is weak in hadith. This stems from people not knowing Hanafi usul. There are several usul based reasons why Hanafi rulings differ from the opinions of other schools on some issues. One of the major reasons is that in the Hanafi school, a solitary hadith can't restrict the meaning of a mutawattir text, such as the Quran or a mutawattir hadith. This results in the Hanafi school not relying on solitary hadiths that some of the other schools rely on. This is why, to give one example, the Hanafis say prayer is valid without reciting the Fatiha, because the hadith that says there is no prayer without the Fatiha isn't mutawattir. And there is a Quranic ayah that says, "Recite what is easy for your from the Quran." The mutawattir Quran is a stronger evidence than a solitary hadith. So while the Hanafi school says we should recite the fatiha because of the hadith, and it is sinful not to recite it, they also say that the fatiha isn't a pillar of the prayer, because the Quran tells us we can recite whatever is easy for us, which has been interpreted to mean at least one ayah of Quran. This is a brief example of how Hanafis deal with hadiths differently than some of the other schools. They know the hadith, they just weigh it differently. So to say Abu Hanifa was unaware of the hadiths on the topic is a lie. If you look in the Hanafi texts, the hadiths that critics of the school claim Abu Hanifa didn't know are dealt with. The speaker in the video openly admitted he didn't know much about the Hanafi school, and he only studied one text, Mukhatasar al-Qudoori (and I'm skeptical that he studied it thoroughly, cover to cover), so it is no surprise that he is ignorant of many of these facts. This requires a deeper study of the school to understand properly, something he hasn't taken the time to do. And the Hanafi school has a distinct method for authenticating hadiths that is different from the Shafi'i methodology popularized in mustalaha al-hadith texts such as al-Bayquniyya and Nukhbatul Fikr. This is another reason for the difference of opinion that you sometimes see when comparing the Hanafi school to others. In summary, Abu Hanifa knew the relevant hadiths that serve as the basis for fiqh rulings, however, he often dealt with them differently than the other madhabs. This slander that he was weak in hadith is an ahl al-Hadith bias that came about largely due to people not understanding Hanafi usul. If you study Hanafi fiqh and usul in more depth, you will see how they address all of the hadiths that critics claim they are ignorant of.

Mashallah great talk. Just one point, Ustaad you mentioned Imam Abu Hanifa Rahimullah was weak in Hadith. However, mine and your understanding of someone being 'weak' in hadith is very different from what the Masters of hadith in the salaf termed as 'weak'. Your failure to define this and to clarify this point is to do injustice to the Imam. Many of the Salafi brothers, swear at Imam Abu Hanifa and falsely claim he only new 5 hadith. Hence after your excellent talk, i'm sad to see that you didn't clarify this point.

Slm I will request the Sheikh to take this statement back that Abu Hanifa was dhaeef in Hadith. I can accept if he said that hadith was not what he engaged with like how say Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanba didl. However he was a thiqa. You can read alilal al-sagheer of Imam Tirmizi where Imam Tirmizi quotes Imam Abu Hanifa to tadheef of a person. If he himself was not a thiqa and week in hadith why would he quote him as ref. The reality is Abu Hanifa was too strict in narrating hadith therefore we have very few ahadith narrated from him. You might not list him as a muhaddith as you would list Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal but you cannot say he was dhaeef in hadith. If he engaged with hadith and he made mistakes then what the sheikh said would be correct.

This brother is not qualify to do class on madhab he is strongly against or knows about. Abu hanafi was not weak in Hadith, people knew more Hadith like imam Maliki. Giving the time of Kufa Hadith was fabricated that’s why his madhab take Hadith differently than the other madhab. There is many other reason as well

Ahki u shouldn’t even be following an imaam. Your methodology is already flawed. If that man was RasulAllah s.a.w then gladly follow him. The methodology of the the HAQ is to follow the correct authentic accurate teachings with authentic tic contextual evidences not to blindfoldely follow one specific Imaam!

Praying behind any Muslim is permissible unless they have committed Kufr. Imām Muslim was not a Muqallid, nor a Mujtahid Mutlaq, he was of Ahlul Hadith, and would weigh up the views of the Mujtahideen before taking a view. Imām al-Bukhari رحمه الله & Imam Abu Dawūd رحمه الله however were both Mujtahideen Mutlaq. Following an Imām in his Usul to organise your Fiqh approach is fine, and not condemned. To take every single view of an Imām or Madhab is haram for the Mujtahideen & the Students of Knowledge who can weigh up evidences. For the lay people - i.e. us - we have no Madhab. Our Madhab is of the Mufti we are asking a fatwa from. To properly be upon a Madhab, you need to be at a certain level of knowledge, which most Madhab followers are not at. Imām Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: "Indeed the comnon person cannot have a madhab (school of jurisprudential thought), even if he thinks he does. Rather the common person has no madhab at all, because the madhab will be for the one who is able to research to a certain level & understand evidence...and knows the ruling & sayings of his Imām. As for the one who is unable to do any of that, but merely says 'I am a Shafi'ī' or 'I am a Hanbalī' etc. Then he does not become that just by saying so, just as would be the case if he said 'I am a religious scholar' or 'I am a scholar of grammar', then he does not become that just by saying so." - I'lām ul-Muwaqqi'een, 4/261

Ustadh said studying via one of the 4 Madhā'hib is actually a good & very easy way to gain Fiqh of the Deen. Did you even watch the videos before this one? (They are called Introduction to Fiqh). He simply stated how it is not harām (so he does not condemn it as you mistakenly assume) and at the same time, it is not obligatory (as some Madhab fanaticists falsely claim).

@@zain5929 Of course he did the Tabien/Tabi Tabien were his teachers including Jaffar As Sadiqq thats where he took from. What did you think that Abu Hanifa pulled the knowledge out of his pocket? But if by your statement your implying that this is evidence for us, also, not to follow a mathab then by the same reasoning you should not read Bukhari, Muslim or Ibn Kathir, or Ibn Qayyum because the Prophet (saas) and Abu Hanifa didn't take form those imams nor read their compilations (for obvious reasons). So be consistent with your logic. Don't forget, that not following a mathab is a mathab. Also remember that just because you claim to be a Salafi doesn't make you a Salafi.
