The Anvil Restoration Is Complete And It Is Back Into Service
Almost Finished With This Anvil Repair
I am almost finished with this anvil repair and hope to be using it by the weekend. There is a very small amount of welding to be done but for the most part it is just about there.

Good Morning Mr Jim, The Anvil looks simply fantastic. What an outstanding example of patients and perseverance. I honestly did not think that it would come out as beautiful and completely functional as it has. That's why I continue to watch every video you make. That Anvil will last for years to come. Outstanding!

Since watching this I am finding more an more people that are restoring anvils. Some are in bad shape and DiRista used his Bridgeport to take the top off before replacing the top with a new steel plate. I don't figure you did anything that most tool users wouldn't have done. Now if you were a collector that just looked at them that would be different. Keep up the great work.

Morning Jim.... nice job, you can even comb your hair in the reflection! Your daughter seems to be in more of your videos helping than your son, maybe she should have the pit of despair for a shop! They're both getting older, funny how you watch them growing through your videos. Even your little one is getting bigger. And of course, you're getting older! Watch out for those gray hairs, and don't forget your eyes, mine started going at 40!

He has more grey already than I do. Maybe that's because he has a few more hairs than I, but I've got about ten years on him as well. He's looked grey for a long time now. The old "Silver Fox" is doing pretty good for a guy thay keeps trying to put himself in a hospital bed. (Several years of lifting on heavy timbers, trying to walking over big holes in the floor, playing hoist-man for heavy chunks of iron and steel, etc. all by himself).

Morning Jim. Anvil looks much better, especially around the ole blowout. Question, are you going to heat it one last time or three to season the iron like an old iron skillet? You know, to keep the rust down? Also, are you nuts? A chain hoist could ha e done the majority of the lifting for you. Gotta start thinking about protecting that back. You're ain't as young as you once was!

Now, if you treat this anvil as if it were another hammer (harden) it will last. We all know what can happen when two harden hammers are smashed together. Hate it when you would like to give a guy the: "I told you so." I watched as 3/8 shrapnel enter a "I know better person's" leg. He had forever issue with that leg. This video and others of your hammering: It could be the filming, but it seems that your hammer blows are held back / or careful / to light? I wonder if you are using your wrist, arm and shoulder? It is good to see you make time to share your interest with you children.

I've found that a little more hammer finess makes the job easier with less grinding at the end. My left shoulder I have to watch, that one doesn't like swinging as much any more.
