Still prefer a PHEV RAV4 Prime (or upcoming Rogue PHEV) - 15,000 miles all-electric annually of cheap, clean home charging. - Never hostage to public charging that's often occupied, ICED, broken, vandalized or in an unsafe area (personal experience) - Never any range / charge anxiety - Never need another vehicle dedicated for road trips.

Had a RAV4 Prime. Meh. Engineering marvel and insanely efficient but low NVH scores in my book. Wind noise, road noise, buzzy engine. If you are paying $50K for a SUV I'd rather spend it on something vastly more pleasant to drive with better features. i.e Telluride. The Telluride made my old Prime feel like a cheap budgety $30K SUV... which the R4P is but with a fancy EV drivetrain slapped on.

Overall, not a bad package. However, I think the ID4 will outsell it by a wide margin once production starts in TN and it gets the US tax credit. On the performance side, the Mach-E/Y will be chosen. The Hyundai/Kia EVs also aren't getting the tax credit, but they are cheaper. The Ariya is stuck in a non-enviable position: fairly high cost and not having the tax credit does not bode well for sales volume. I'm saying this as a Model 3 and Murano owner.

I think Nissan made a good decision regarding the high creature content vs. range in the base package, and here is why. I think this’d car is well suited to a typical commuter, whose daily average range requirements are a little lower, but whom values creature comforts for that daily drive highly.

The entry level ID. 4 is about $5k less expensive than this entry level and save for the power front seats and heated rear seats, appears to have all the bells and whistles this one has. As to the comment that the ID. 4 is a complete failure and thet sales are negligible, VW just posted record sales for the ID. 4 for the last quarter. Modern stability control systems have substantially reduced the difference. Historically, RWD cars behaved worse if they lost traction on snow or ice. FWD cars, with a lot of weight in front, didn't lose traction as easily, and behaved more benignly if they did.

Another excellent review , per usual! To me, the Ariya's exterior looks like an ID4!! (that's a compliment). This appears to be another nice, but pricey EV. (Need cheaper batteries!!) Regarding the EV tax credit in the US, remember that to qualify, an EV must 1) be assembled in North America and 2) have battery chemicals sourced there (or something like that). This battery requirement is a big issue, I hear. For example, though the Chevrolet Bolt and Equinox will satisfy the assembling requirement, they may not qualify on the battery chemicals requirement.

@voxel999

The korean EVs except for the GV60 have fewer features than the Ariya. Let's not talk about the base Ioniq 5 SE RWD that has cloth seats, no front sensor, ear-bleeding audio, and acceleration that would lose to an ICE SUV. We are trying to compare apples to apples. Top trim Ariya Platinum+ has HUD, digital rear view mirror, hands free adaptive cruise, premium audio (not the mediocre audio in the EV6 and Ioniq 5 - so closer to GV60), nicer interior, 87 kWh battery which should have up to 30 miles more of real world range compared to the 77 kWh sized E-GMP cars. Poor interior, poor audio, and no hands-free adaptive cruise are the dealbreakers for me for the EV6 and Ioniq 5. GV60 is my backup choice if I can't get an Ariya or Lyriq.

At least for now, it doesn't matter the DC fast charge time because they will all charge at the same rate because of the capacity of the commercial fast charger. Most EV buyers have houses so they don't really care about charge times since they'll have a full charge overnight every night. 10%-80% is 40 mins is not bad either. That's less than a single episode of your favorite Netflix series

As a contracted reservation holder I can answer some of Alex and posters comments. 1) It's sold out for the year, and most of us have binding contracts in place. This delivers the $7,500 tax credit. As for the next model year, one assume Nissan will, as soon as possible, migrate production of US destined product to NA plants. 2) Value: Have you looked into Mach E pricing recently? Now THAT's expensive. 3) Content decisions/dollar. Pretty well done. I only disagree with the absence of ventilated seats and the limitation of the BOSE to the high-end only unit. 4) Range Choices: Folks get this wrong often. Total advertised range isn't used regularly, but the capacity is. Now will this trend chance in fact, in the coming years V2H power will become the norm (think duck curve). Meanwhile those in cold areas realize we're taking a pretty big hit. If, in the dead of winter, I see 60% of available range I'll be floored. Tack on a 40 mile daily commute, plus whatever else I need to do @ EOBD and yea, available range matters. I'd rather not be re-charging every night (more on that) as well. 5) Would I buy this? Obviously I believe this fits us best. Why? A. My greedy area H/L dealer was adding $5k in ADM. Nope. B. I wanted a larger compact that rode well and was quiet, and with 2nd row legroom (child seats) than the ID4. C. I expect Nissan's experience in EV's to help in quality and residual value. D. This thing looks darn good. E. The Mach-E is now stupid expensive, as is the EV Blazer. F. FWD as the base configuration is THE smart move. Alex explains it well. Nicely done Nissan. 6) Yes, there is a faster level 2 OBC option. Tempting, but usually not worth the extra cost. 7.2KWH is going to be in the 22+ miles per hour of charge range. Most of us are going to recharge at 40-60 miles of range to perhaps 240 miles of range (in the 80-ish % range), so perhaps 200 miles useable in d2d use. For many that's a once a week overnight charge, for others, and or winter use, twice a week. (We'll get better battery longevity this way) 7) What choice is there at a better price/feature price point? A marked up Ioniq 5 I'd have to buy in AWD (winter use for wife)? I expect the Nissan to hold resale value much better, and again, I get the tax credit. The tight 2nd row ID4? Flaws: 1) Charging port side should follow the driver side 2) Again, no ventilated seats. 3) I, like 80% of us, don't use the moon-roof after the first week. I don't want the cost, headroom loss, or leakage issues. It should be an option ONLY. 4) I don't like subscription services and Nissan (Ach, my goodness.. dat soon?) is heading that way. 5) No spare? At least make it an option. 6) It looks like the OBC configuration jumps from 1.4 to 7.2 KWA. That's a poor decision. A 5.7KWH sub-rate would be used by a lot of folks. Pretty common (30 amp) circuit size. Gonna make a lot of folks either re-wire or buy another EVSE. 7) Center console is cute but not too functional. That needs a redo.

The front-end looks really good: modern, smart, sleek, space-age-y, without looking overdone or that it's trying too hard to stand out. The vast, featureless expanse at the rear doesn't look too good. Not a fan of severely sloping hatches in CUVs, but this one doesn't look too bad. The interior is good-looking and interesting, though I noticed that the panel gaps were bad. Both the glove box lid & the trick centre drawer's (?) lid showed a noticeable gap of 3-4 mm. At this point, I am looking forward to eventually buying at aria. Some prices are down at this point in play 2023. My priorities are comfortable and quiet and all-wheel drive and ground clearance. I live in a state that gets a fair amount of snow. When I am ready to buy, I will be looking for a low mileage used model most likely. I bought my 2019 leaf with 4000 Mi on it , and got a good deal.

Ordered an Ariya, fully loaded AWD Platinum before the tax change and have been told it WILL be eligible as we committed to ordering and putting down a $500 deposit before the tax change. Plus there was a price increase that will NOT affect early orders. Now my dilemma is should I get it and flip it for a profit?

Same situation here, being able to buy at a reduced competitive price will help for resale down the road. Just wish I knew it would come in before tax season was over so I could claim on 2022 taxes. I will keep as long as it makes sense. If it only had faster charging both level 2(I have 19.2kwh) and level 3 (250kwh) it would be perfect. Once were under 20 minutes for a 10%-80% charge the ICE owners will convert even if the EV's are priced 15k-20k higher. Wake up MFG's

The problem that I see is that they let the LEAF languish for so long. It gave Nissan a reputation for not really wanting to pursue EVs and just treat them as compliance vehicles.

I think the compromises they’ve made were well chosen. I don’t think the tax credit makes or breaks this deal. I think the charge rate (L2 and DC) is completely reasonable. The range is honestly as high as it needs to be- range anxiety isn’t a problem with the car, but the driver. I drive 50 miles a day, with the occasional 200 mile day - this will be no problem at all - and even the super-rare 500 mile day just means finding a DC charger once during a 7 hour drive, or having a couple hours at somewhere with L2 available - should be easy enough.

I like it but the price is just too steep if you want AWD. I was unaware of a small battery AWD option but the range will be crappy. It's best to wait as Nissan will have solid-state battery in a few years.

It takes a long time for a brand to change their reputation. In the car enthusiast community, Nissan has the reputation of Daewoo. Other people see them as what they were in the 90s. I don’t think the reputation of Toyota is going to change much in the next 20 years. Even if they make lackluster cars, people will still buy them.

It’s not just the tactile feel while using them, but you can find the correct control by feel as well rather than taking your eyes off the road long enough to find the correct touch (haptic feedback or not) control.
@finalmage6

@@watchreport It would be at least nice to have the controls raised just a bit instead of flush. Give us something that we can feel that isn't just haptic feedback. It's understandable that everyone is trying to emulate Tesla's design because it's successful, but it should be noted that plenty of people probably dislike that aesthetic as well.

@@chow-chihuang4903 plus many vehicles lost capability with scrren controls... I used to have mechanical dial which could variably choose or split 50/50 which vent will blow air, now it's only one or the other plus it forces automatic features, like blower off automatically puts vent in a circulation, because they assuming I will never want any air if blowers off... it used to be my choice, blower off but fresh air in, if I want no air whatsoever then switch circulation... and this only forced automation is in other features as well... I don't know if it's a lazy or dumb because with digital controls they can choose absolutely anything and give us all the variations, but no they make it worse
