An underrated route runner is Stevie Johnson. He was ahead of his time. If you look back at his tape he was doing things that all the top wideouts from today are doing

@@jayinthebxwhat does being a catch magnet have to do with running routes. As far as good route running goes Dhop doesn’t run great routes because he doesn’t need as much separation to catch. Ab was never the best route runner in the league but was always great at it

Keenan Allen is not fast. BUT That man is always open. Even at 31 right now, hes probably having the best year I have ever seen from him. Justin Herbert has missed him wide open last two games to the point of maybe 100+ yards and two-three touchdowns. If he was on another team he would be talked about so much. Only Charger record he is chasing is all time yards from Gates, which is also insane to think about cause he was our TE.

Some of these receivers in the NFL who are the best at route running is like watching Allen Iverson in the NBA crossing over everyone making them look foolish the way he dose on the hardwood but he did play high school football too now he's a basketball hall of famer

I feel like head movement is also an important key to running a route. DB’s are watching everything from eyes to hand. If you look one direction and go another direction, the db is now in no man’s land

Not true dbs are taught to watch hips as your hips are always the first thing to move or change direction. Head fakes and fast feet only work on a db who didn’t keep his eyes on the hips. Great WRs can also flip there hips fast which allows them to sell like their going one way

For me, Steve Largent is the greatest pure route runner in NFL history. Having to compensate for his average athleticism with precise and crisp moves for an entire high-tier HOF career is insane.

Steve largent isn’t better than half the Wr in the league currently. He was a innovator yes but the game has far surpassed his ability to run routes in large part thanks to him and Jerry rice and then later ocho and guys like stevie

I think Mike is a great WR, and he may be underrated, but I don't think he excels at route running. In my opinion, his best ability is the use of his body and toughness combined with a notable speed (especially considering his size).
