Is there a connection between the Ascension and the Eucharist? If so, what is it, as it relates to both making the Eucharist present on altars around the world at any time and the sacrificial nature of the Eucharist?
Check out this video with Dr. Brant Pitre to learn more about this topic from St. Paul's first letter to the Romans in chapter 8.

Can you please help me understand one thing? If the Eucharist depends on the the transformed body of Jesus Christ and his acension then how could the last supper had been the first Mass and Eucharist if neither the ascension nor resurection had occurred yet? What am I misunderstanding because Dr.Pitre makes this same claim in the book Jesus and the jewish roots of the Eucharist?

What I understand is that the eucharist is the sacrificed body of christ on the cross and the journey to the cross started from the last supper. God does not have time constrain so God can go in the future, so during the last supper Jesus gave his body to the disciples which will be given up on the cross. Similarly God can go in the past, so we receive the same body today in the Eucharist which was broken on the cross 2000 years ago. If someone have another answer please share

This is amazing and brings me to share in depth with Mass and the Eucharist. This explains the effectiveness and love we have if we do our Liturgy of the Hours when we pray to, with and through Jesus. We are joining Jesus's praise to the Father when we praise God during the LOTH. Amen!!!

Dr. Pitre, a really good talk on the Ascension why it is essential, as you put it. Though, I am surprised that Luther did not understand the mass as the eternal offering of Jesus. Maybe he fell asleep the day in theology class the day they discussed it.

at 10:30 could an argument against cremation be made if Christs glorified body still has the marks of His crucifixion?
@hunterstephens4541
@hunterstephens4541 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting point. But with Jesus, as the New Testament quotes the Psalms, God would not allow his holy one to see corruption. Christ's body didn't corrupt at all. Our bodies will see corruption, whether quickly (cremation) or slowly in the grave. So God would have found some way, even if cremation had been the norm in Judaism of the time, that Christ would not have been cremated, is how I understand it. For us, it doesn't matter so much.

Genuine question, how should we read Heb 9:24-26 "For Christ has entered, not into a sanctuary made with hands, a copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. 25 Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the Holy Place yearly with blood not his own; 26 for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself." I know Dr Pitre said that Christ does not suffer over and over again, but there is a nuance here that (I would appreciate if someone could) needs to be articulated. Should we understand this as a single offering outside of time presented to the Father? If so, how do we reconcile this with "Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly..."?

One Church for a thousand years and then split apart on some inside-baseball understandings of the papacy. They have different rites, as well, but when a parish or diocese wants to come back into communion with Rome, they don't have to give up their rites and adopt Western rites. That's why, for instance, there are today Byzantine Catholic and Byzantine Orthodox parishes. As far as I know, the only way to know which you had walked into would be the sign out front.

The orthodox do not believe in the immaculate conception of Mary, the papal primacy nor purgatory. These beliefs alone render them anathema from the universal Catholic Church.

If we're "predestined" and "once saved always saved", then Paul doesn't even have to mention anything about "intercession"; specially since this intercessory effort is being done after His gruesome Passion...which should have been enough to save all mankind. No "intercesions" should be needed.

Jesus came as a man, so he was divine as Being God and also came and was born as a man, Human by nature and divine as God, “So he is our mediator.” Which lines up with John 3:16 God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son to save his people from their sins

@christocentric The church is a body of believers in Christ Jesus, Example: Five thousand heard the word of truth and the church grew. John writes to seven literal churches, not one. Six of the seven had a few things wrong with them. They were making a left turn from doctrine and they were obviously in error, if they do not repent they will be removed. Several Catholic Church doctrines have occurred over the years that is not mentioned anywhere in scriptures.

I still don't get the sacrifice of the Mass. WHY do we have to re=present the Sacrifice, when it has already been done? I get it that Christ is interceding for us on the basis of His Person and His Sacrifice, but why does a priest have to offer this to God again and again? I don't doubt the Real Presence, but I do struggle with this because in my mind it makes no sense. I get that Christ is interceding for us on the basis of His Person and His Sacrifice. But how can the Mass be a perpetuation of His Sacrifice when it has already been accepted? I'm having a very difficult time with this.

because Hebrews ties Jesus to the order of Melchisidek, but what does that mean? Id argue that this is because Mel. was seen as the eternal priest that preceded the Levitical priesthood and who brought offerings of Bread and Wine. When you consider those to aspects you notice that the eucharist is the bread and wine offering of Mel. being fulfilled in the last supper which represents the body and blood of Christ

Yes, Christ intercedes for us in the wayfaring (earthly) state BUT as per Ludwig Ott's reference text for clergy: Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma, Section 6.3: "Christ as the Lawgiver and Judge of Mankind: To Christ's supreme law giving power there corresponds His supreme judicial power. Jesus bears witness: 'For neither doth the Father judge any man, but hath given all judgment to the Son' [John 5:32] . 'The judgment that the Son shall pass will be immediately executed: "And these (the evil ones) shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just into life everlasting."' [Matthew 25:46]

So are you saying “Jesus is coming to us” in the Eucharist, Body, soul, and divinity. But I thought you said he sits at the right hand of the Father, and told his disciples I will send another the Holy Spirit as a comforter. Right? When Jesus said in John 6:63 Jesus is talking about his body, I speak unto you, “they are spirit” and they are life . Is Jesus speaking of the Holy Spirit that ties with Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believe, ye were SEALED with the HOLY SPIRIT of promise. Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and “GODHEAD” so that they are without excuse. My next question is not for debate purposes, But I believe in 1John5:7 KJV three that bare record in heavenThe Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit and the three are one, so if A Christian is sealed with the Holy Spirit inside of them, why would Jesus come also inside of you through the Eucharist. For he is already inside of you as one with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as one. John 6:35 Jesus said I am the bread of life, he that cometh to me shall never hunger and he that believes in me shall never thirst. Ephesians 1:13 believe and you shall be sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. I believe this is what Jesus is saying is to believe in me.

@@ncubemusics Yes, it is an amazing book, full of clues, it’s almost endless. The more I read it the more I see how smart God is. It’s nice to have help with the Holy Spirit and also the strong’s concordance helps a little. I recently saw this verse and tied them together, it makes some sense. Jesus is talking to the Samaritan woman at the well and his disciples are getting him food and when they came to him they said Master eat, and in John 4:31-34 Jesus said I have MEAT to eat that that ye know not of. Then he said my MEAT is to do the will of my Father. Go to where Jesus is talking about eating his body and drinking his blood. John 6:27 Labour not for the MEAT which perished, but that MEAT which endureth unto everlasting life, which the son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father has SEALED, that ties in with Ephesians 1:13 In whom you have trusted after that ye heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation: in whom that ye “BELIEVED” ye were “SEALED” with the HOLY SPIRIT of promise. Back to John 6:63 the words that I speak to you they are SPIRIT and they are life. I just cannot find in the scriptures where Jesus gave the authority to his disciples to command “TRANSUBSTANTIATION “ Just what I think Jesus is saying according to scripture.

@Laudetur Jesus Christus Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost John 14:9 he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; I am in the Father, and the Father in me. John 5:7 KJV three that bare record in heaven, the Father ,the word, and the Holy Ghost and the three are one. Judas broke bread with Jesus and went out and did miracles, with the other eleven disciples in the name of Jesus, but Jesus told Judas that he was of the Devil. Judas never was sealed with the Holy Spirit. Judas believed who Jesus was and so do the devils also believe in Jesus, but they tremble! Matthew 10:28 Fear him which is able to destroy BOTH soul and body in hell. We are born with Body and soul, two parts 2/3= .666 the number of a man. Revelation 13:18. but when you are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise you now are reborn and have three parts and are complete and made whole with body, soul, and Holy Ghost. To be made one with God, as a child of God, we are now called a Christian and a disciple of Jesus. The gospel: 1CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 Romans 10:9 ,Ephesians 1:13, Ephesians 4:30, Ephesians 2:8-9, Truth is in the scriptures! May Grace be upon you!

@@johnp.6043 What do you then think Jesus meant when he said "do this in remembrance of me". You seem not to consider the contextual circumstances. In John 6:66 why didn't He call back his followers when they were unfollowing Him to explain plainly to them what He means by those words after saying "eat my flesh and drink my blood", words that were extremely irritating and disgusting to the Jews and in line with their religious laws in book of Leviticus even abominable. As for transubstantiation, neither the apostles have power to tansubstantiate nor nowadays priests but the power of the words of Jesus redeclared upon the bread and wine according to His command that effects the change Isaiah 55:11.

@@ncubemusics Why didn’t Jesus call back his followers? John 5:42 They did not have the love of God in them. I believed they followed Jesus for the miracles he performed, it says many of his followers left him, it did not say all of them. Separating the wheat from the tares. John 2:19 Jesus told the Jews destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. The Jews said it took forty six years to built this temple how can you raise it up in three days. They also left him without Jesus explaining the true meaning of what he was saying about the temple of his body. Jesus is separating the tares from the wheat again. John 3:36 He that believes on the Son, hath everlasting life. John 1:1 The word was God verse14 And the word was made flesh,and dwelt among us. Ephesians 1:13 to hear the word of truth and believe is to take the word in your hearts. John 2:23 Many believed in his name when they saw the miracles which he did. Verse24 JESUS DID NOT COMMIT HIMSELF UNTO THEM, BECAUSE HE KNEW ALL MEN. Verse25 FOR HE NEW WHAT WAS IN MAN. Example: This is whyJesus did not go after his followers at the table to explain to them the meaning, when he said eat my body and drink my blood. He new their hearts. John 3:6 ye must be born again, that which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. John 6:36 It is the spirit that quickened; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you they are spirit and they are life. John 668-69 Peter answered him, we believe. John5:24 I say he that hears my words and believes on him shall have everlasting life. John 6:35-36 Jesus said I am the bread of life, he that comes to me shall never hunger and he that believes in me shall never thirst. John 6:40 And believe on him, may have everlasting life. John 7:38-39 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said out of his belly shall flow rivers of living waters ( but this HE spake of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified. Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also TRUSTED, after that ye HEARD the WORD OF TRUTH, the GOSPEL of YOUR SALVATION: in whom also that ye BELIEVED, ye were SEALED with the HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE. Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, PROMISED before the world began. It is about justification what Jesus did as a gift for us by,himself dying for our sins and washing us clean of our sins. Believing with a repentant heart for Jesus. Keep studying the scriptures, I pray that God gives you the Grace and understanding of his words of truth.

I appreciate your work and support your channel but to describe Jesus as akin to our lawyer who will defend us for the Father, this is misleading. Jesus Christ has been given all authority by the Father to execute judgment on all of us. He will sit on his throne in the last day as our Judge. The Catholic tradition of the our Lady's power of intercession, her vital role, has stood the test of time as irrefutable truth.
