Trusting the process took 5 seasons to get to a position to compete. The fans have done their part. It’s now about reaping the rewards, delivering and maintaining the process by getting over the line instead of flirting with it and missing out.

Credible journalists like Art, Gunnerblog, James Benge, Charles Watts have made it pretty clear we’re aren’t signing anyone for a massive fee/ spending as much as we have done the last couple of years, so I wonder how fans like Alex who persist with the narrative we will do will continue to live in a fantasy world about this summers spending

@@alzer6467 I agree they haven’t got a clue what we’re doing overall, however gunnerblog especially is tempering expectations based of the insider knowledge he’s aware of. We probably sign a good midfielder and a forward option but the expectancy that 200m plus is spent again and we have 7 class forwards we like (havertz, saka, martinelli, trossard, jesus and a winger and a top striker) along with Zinchenko out and good new left back option in (who’ll be on the bench with Tomi and Kiwior), and a top midfielder is completely unrealistic. Add to that every fan thinks we’re entitled to sell back ups that haven’t been good for years and haven’t played much for good money it’s going difficult for those fans to adjust to reality come the end of the summer

If Onana's performance for Belgium is anything to go by ..he should never play for a top team let alone for us. His passing and tactical decision making is the primary reason why Belgium could not put together any fluid attacks. I would not be surprised if he is replaced by another DM in the next game.

You have to get more of an 8 than a 6 and leave Rice at 6. Everyone's talked about how the left side of the pitch doesn't have help from the CM... But will continue to have rice there?
@SmokeKinz
@SmokeKinz 8 күн бұрын
I think Arteta prefers some one who is quick on the half turn and more of a register in his 6. And you have to say that rice will probably grow into the 8 role. And Timber as left back will give way more dynamism to the left side. Maybe you even switch rice and ödegard ingame… I think Rice will be a 6 out of posession and a 8 in possession

Exactly, i feel some people just have this weird fetish with keep partey in the team, our defence actually looked solid with rice as the 6 and there are amazing 8/10s out there, eze, writz, musiala, xavi etc, we can get rid of both ESR and partey and sign a 6 and an 8

The solution on the LHS comes in what the LB does more than the LMF. The right worked before White inverted. But last season he began inverting while the left couldn’t. The left worked when the LB inverted and didn’t when it didn’t. Getting that person to support & (under)overlap Nelli the way White does Saka will be massive. Even with Zinchenko’s injuries, it would function when he was fit bc Gabi’s numbers weren’t a complete drop off. It was definitely disjointed though with all the workarounds at LB.

I’m sorry but let’s say in theory we sign a 6 and Odegaard picks up an injury. We happy with rice being our main playmaker ? Xhaka is a defensive box to box, we replaced him with havertz be to an attacking box to box and support Odergaard but he wasn’t effective. We are screaming out for a high calibre 8.

Seeing how we have put some players in the doghouse (e.g. ESR), i fear that no matter who we add to the squad, it will be just Arteta swapping a player or two in his core 14 players. The others who did so well as depth then get shunted aside, barely getting a game while Saka and Saliba are auto first choice. I think Arteta is a very good coach. Should we sign players he wants? Yes. But I worry we are just upgrading our starting core and freezing out our depth, because Arteta doesn't want to rely on depth.
@thespizz5074
@thespizz5074 8 күн бұрын
We improve our attack by upgrading Nelson and Nketiah, but we still have a gaping Xhaka shaped hole in the left 8. That has to be our priority. Rice is good on the ball but he’s not a creator as far as I can see. Plus if you play rice left 8 you negate the strongest part of his game, his super power, which is ball recovery, tackles and interceptions. I’d rather invest in someone like a Eze, Gibbs-White, I would have taken Douglas Luiz, Bruno G or Pacqueta would have been amazing too but none of those seem on now. Then I just think sell Partey and get Fofana for a good price, let Rice play 6 with Odergaard and eze ahead of him. In the bigger games you can shift Rice to the 8 and play Fofana 6 or just slot Fofana in lcm. And drop the new 8. also eze and gibbs-white can probably play CM, RW and LW. maybe you kill two birds with one stone and use them as a potential rotation option with Saka in some games. So that's like 20-30m for fofana, 60-80m on eze/Gibbs-white. Call it an 100M investment in midfield. go big on an attacking left 8 who can take some of the creative burden off Odergaard. But realistically on top of that i would want as to add at least 1 actual forward player. Either a striker or an explosive winger with loads of pace. I really rate Pedro Neto but it's such a shame about his injury record.
@NakulKrishna
@NakulKrishna 7 күн бұрын
I think your points are fair, just not sure about Eze being the 8 choice. But I agree that Rice is a much better 6 than he is an 8. Pacy winger would be 2nd priority and I’d want a backup for Saliba too. He’s played every minute, that ain’t happening too often. Imagine if we could get an injury free Neto.

Rice has been exposed at 6 in the Euros. He plays too safely and can't progress the ball excellently as we should want. At 8 he's not skillful enough, but wins enough in presses to create chances, and has the engine to come and help the 6.

Wasn’t Declan Rice meant to be that player to replace Partey? His passing distribution isn’t as good and cost £100M and if he doesn’t have the best passing distribution Arteta and Edu should’ve watched what he was doing at West ham and checked his statistics cause compare them to this PL season 22/23 and the last 23/24 it’s only marginally better. A DM’s job be isn’t finding space to pass that’s the job on a CM or AM. A DM’s is sweeping and preventing any attacks from passing through the midfield and entering the defense. If a DM has great passing distribution that’s the anomaly. Amadou Onana is a good ball winner like Rice but he’s even worst at passing distribution than Rice check the statistics for all these things don’t just judge off eye test. if anyone is thinking of a Thomas Partey replacement these are the players arsenal should be looking at in this order(and this has been checked by statistics, price and availability): Mats Wieffer, Federico Redondo, Angelo Stiller(NOTE: might go down or up in this scale of preference based on his performances in the UCL), Nicolo Rovella(NOTE: might go down or up in this scale of preference based on his performances in the UCL), Manuel Ugarate, Florentino Luis, Martin Zubimendi(is better at getting out of challenges + least likely to be dribbled past by the three players above but is worst at passing by a lot for all the players in the list + is less of an athlete too)
@NakulKrishna
@NakulKrishna 7 күн бұрын
In all honesty, Mikel likes his 6 to be this unique Partey type profile. As far as I know only Partey plays like Partey. It’s why he was one of Mikels early signings. He’s using Rice’s interception and ball winning qualities higher up the pitch to make our high press even more oppressive. If we get a good ball progressing 6 who’s good on the turn and beating a press like Partey is, we won’t need to have that 6 who shields us. In fact we need someone like Partey who skews a bit to the left in terms of their passing and thinking to balance us out. We’ll be dominating the opponents third for most of the game. And that’s also where the versatility comes in, because in case we’re being pushed back say against a city, then Rice drops into a double pivot with the new 6. Also I feel Rice’s offensive play can be developed further.
@nabeel426
@nabeel426 7 күн бұрын
if so then it was a very poor purchase cause all of the attributes Rice has can be found in multiple midfielders as there are many ball winning midfielders. As for Partey there are quite a few as I stated in the players who are similar to him plus even throughout history there are many: Pirlo, Rijkaard, Petit, Makelele, Xabi Alonso, Rodri, etc. also if Rice was to play at LCM we should’ve just gotten Mikel Merino you can check the statistics they’re pretty similar but I agree with you though
@NakulKrishna
@NakulKrishna 7 күн бұрын
@@nabeel426 nah man how can you look at this first season Rice has had with Arsenal and say it’s poor in any capacity? There really are not enough prem proven players of Declan’s quality, it’s either all hope, potential or hype. Declan carried West Ham for multiple consecutive years and people call him a bargain at 105m. He’s still young and we’re not sure what Mikels long term plans are. Rice isn’t just about winning the ball, it’s spatial understanding, his presence, his reading of the game. Players don’t even try to challenge him because he bounds past them and has the physical strength to hold off the kind of challenges players face in the epl regularly. It’s not quite as simple as all the players who play the same position in the world and just getting them, it’s their strengths, and approach and how it fits into the system we want to play, their experience at a young age etc. I can never think Rice is a mistake no matter where in central mf he plays. We just need a complimentary mf with him.
@nabeel426
@nabeel426 7 күн бұрын
@@NakulKrishna firstly I meant he was a poor purchase for the price tag if you understood what I meant before no disrespect. Yes ball winning midfielders have to certain traits that make them special but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s just a ball winning midfielder with above average passing and you can check his statistics with his own from 22/23 & 23/24 as it’s not that much different hence why I said it’s a poor purchase. Haaland didn’t need to be Pl proven either did Alexis Sanchez, Salah, Fabinho, Toney, Watkins, Paqueta, Isak, Etc cause majority of the players in the PL are foreigners they just need to be good. Nicolas Jackson that almost everyone said was average beat Havertz best prolific season (which was this one) after he’s been in the league longer. My point is this: no player should cost £100M useless they’re changing the club significantly based on value for money for example CR7 is the best value for money for R.Madrid cause he helped them win multiple trophies, won multiple personal awards and became the highest goal scorer in the club’s history that hadn’t been broken since the 50’s & 60’s. Another one is Lothar Matthaus to Inter Milan which was around half of the highest paid player ever at that time(Gullit). He helped them win their first title in 9 years in his first year, won the Ballon D’or the next and won 2 trophies for the next three years before moving back to Bayern. Declan Rice is the 8th most expensive player in recorded football history he can’t be a bargain. It looks like I don’t like his ability as a player but that’s not the case I think he’s a good player and one of the few ball winning midfielders who can pass well. Value for money he isn’t worth it at all; he improved our defense, improved his goals & assists and our points tally from 84 to 89 but that’s not what a £100M player is bought for. Compare Rodri to Rice then you’ll understand what I mean
@NakulKrishna
@NakulKrishna 7 күн бұрын
@@nabeel426 no disrespect perceived don’t worry, we’re having a perfectly reasonable discussion. I just don’t agree with your opinion, if you’re a team that finished 2nd to arguably the best team in the history of the prem, you have to pay 100m for a single player that takes you from 84 to 89 because that’s how hard it is to recruit at the stage we’re in. If you watched the last England game, Rice bossed it, even Jude thought Declan controlled things. You’re talking about Erling who had numbers and consistency never before seen in a player of his age and many can argue city don’t play football as good with him in this side too. As for the others you mentioned, Sanchez was quite proven in barca, Salah was a Chelsea reject who had a reversal in trajectory after leaving there, Toney isn’t even in the same bracket as everyone else you’ve named. Watkins is around 3 years older than rice and in his prime. Parqueta might be banned for life due to gambling. Isak had major injury issues. Also the argument isn’t English vs foreigners, it’s prem proven vs good numbers in other leagues that don’t quite translate here. You’re comparing Kai to Jackson, when for 2/3s of the season Kai was played in midfield so the numbers aren’t comparable. I’d rather have Kai Havertz over Jackson every day of the week. This is Rice’s first season my guy, and he’s already in the top 3 best players of the season of our record breaking season and not even really into his prime. The market is over inflated but we will only disagree on how much of a difference Rice has made to Arsenal, his availability alone was worth the 100m, we didn’t concede at the etihad, and we had the best record against the big 6. I just don’t see what you’re saying because it’s contradictory. If we could buy Rodri at Rice’s age I would, he is a different level, but he’s also in his prime, has been playing at the top level for half a decade now and under the best coach in the world. Rice will get there, you’re being hasty in your judgment and are probably the only one who would do things differently if given another chance imo. Just for comparison, United bought Harry Maguire and Anthony for 80m+ each. Chelsea bought Enzo and Caicedo each for than 100m. That’s how stupid the market is, considering that Rice is a bargain. And the fact is not every transfer you’re going to get at the perfect idealised rate. We got Odegaard, Saliba and Gabriel for less than United got Anthony for. We get bargains somewhere, and sometimes you pay over to get your project realised. Imo re-signing Jorgi for another season is the questionable decision, either him or Partey need to go and be replaced by someone far better. We also have lots of passengers, in Vieira(who’s a much worse purchase imo even though his statistics screamed creative genius in Portugal), ESR, Elneny, Eddie, Nelson, Cedric etc. Rice is not the issue here, it’s floor of the squad that is the problem.

Bro, some of these links lately have been average at best. Onana is terrible and his technique is nonexistent , Osihmen is an average striker who was kucky enough to have Kvaradona move to Napoli at that time to assist him to 20 goals(big teams are looking at Kvaradona instead which says a lot), but because Arsenal fans can't separate their emotions from reality and actually watch these players instead of relying on a combination of hype and a couple of moments they either saw on a KZfaq video or that one Champions League or EPL game, they assume they're good enough.
