Health care in Australia is one of the best available in the world.

riteasrain _access_ to healthcare, I agree. We have some of the best healthcare in the US as well, _IF you have access to it_ - that being the key. One medical problem without insurance and you can easily rack up lots of money - I racked up half a million in life-saving medical costs and had to declare bankruptcy in 2011.

Filming In Portland sorry, but in australia i have not heard of one person file for bankruptcy from surgery’s. Every citizen has basic cover for public hospitals, almost every GP is free unless they charge a stupid fee. Medicine and prescription is relatively cheep. And private health insurance wont break the bank if u choose a good plan. Even basic covers ambulance rides ($900). American health care needs to up its game

Alice to me (American) she does sound Australian 😂 That’s why I was confused when I learned she wasn’t from Australia. I think all the time she spent there as a kid influenced her accent to sound like a combination of English and Australian to someone who rarely hears either of those accents.

Thankyou for addressing some of the questions asked. And please don't think I'm being nosey but how does health insurance/Medicare work? Like do you have to pay for everything individually as you need it (tests,follow ups,meds,fees etc) or do you pay a set monthly fee? We'd love to emigrate to America where I have family but the healthcare side of things terrifies me as I have alot of the same conditions as you so am quite complex medically xz

Medicare is free as in your taxes pay for it. Hospitals are free. Most GPs are bulk billed or if not claimable on Medicare. Specialist are claimable on Medicare/ health insurance. If you have chronic conditions and have low income you can get health care card from the government which covers the cost of ambulances. Covers most of the cost of meds. If Amy applies through her GP in Australia she can get a disability pension for her chronic illnesses.
@sophiaharrison3297
@sophiaharrison3297 6 жыл бұрын
Private hospitals are not free! If you have private health insurance with hospital cover they will cover most of the cost but you might have to pay an excess or copayment. Medicare (the government) covers the doctors fees though for inpatient treatment, and some medicines are on the PBS (pharmaceutical benefits scheme). This means they all cost $37 to the public no matter how much they actually cost to acquire, or are $6 with a low income health care card :)
@sophiaharrison3297
@sophiaharrison3297 6 жыл бұрын
Even with specialists, most medicare won't cover, at least fully. Ambulances are free to everyone in Tasmania too :) and most pensions require a trip to Centrelink sadly...

New to watching you after seeing this video, I guess my comments are to you, good luck and i hope you enjoy it. I am feeling a little conflicted in you saying you're English, i would assume you'd take a dual nationality stance as you did get an Australian citizenship, if you were ONLY English you wouldn't bother getting the Australian citizenship. I hope you do take the dual nationality stance of Australian - English though! :)

HAH I knew it, your accent sounded mostly British but also a little Australian. I assumed British, then you first mention Australia and I was surprised. Now it makes sense :) Interested to know how Australia has better small business opportunities than the UK, or opportunities in general. Having never been to either place. People assume those dumb Americans can’t tell your accents apart, but we can, if we pay attention :) we have plenty of British TV as well, so you’d have to have your head in the sand to not know. But yours did genuinely confuse me :) One funny thing is when Aussies or Brits move to the southern US or Texas, and develop a southern or Texan drawl. For whatever reason I find it really funny.

You're fortunate that you got Australian Citizenship when you did. Now days they would have refused you on the basis that your health conditions would have been too much of a drain on the health system. There was a story this year about an Irish family who'd lived in Australia since 2009 and were facing deportation back to Ireland because their son was born with Cystic Fibrosis. Sadly, governments of both persuasions in this country seem to have lost their soul.

A LOT less people, spread across a LOT more space. Tiny population in Australia, not dense outside a couple cities. So you’ll always have fewer problems with smaller populations. That’s one reason (I think) that the US has so many issues, massive population (#3) and lots of power. Corrupts everything.

it seems like a better lifestyle for kids (from what i've seen on wanted down under)...like more outdoorsy where as kids here tend to stay inside. plus it seems like there's more jobs there depending on what you want to do, where as certain jobs here are only available in highly populated places like london.
