We visit the ComBots Cup championships, where 220-pound robots clash and destroy each other in thundering deathmatches. Veteran BattleBots competitors share their strategies and show off exactly what makes an awesome combat robot. These fights are loud!

Love this stuff, makes me always think outside the box. Honestly building a robot that has both clever offensive weapons, take a beating, can selfright and deal with the multitude of different weapons is a real challenge. For quite a few years thought to join in but just cant decide on a design that is both heavily armored and offensive enough, and the concepts that would work are far beyond my Financial Capabilities.

ungratefulmetalpansy TLC went so far downhill after Trading Spaces took over, that show ran 24/7 for years, and the channel was never the same, now it is just a disgusting channel with the worst shows imaginable. Discovery was always my favourite channel after that, until the last couple years, I have now stopped watching Discovery as it has totally jumped the shark on those stupid mining and Alaska crap reality shows, there is hardly no science or documentaries any longer, and they have even started up with the stupid alien shows, like History channel. So disappointing...

Adam and Jamie did combat robotics as well. They single handedly invented the "shell spinner" with their robot Blendo, which won at Robot Wars (Not the TV show) 2 years in a row...even though they stopped it from competing because it threw chunks of metal over the arena walls.

the best part is that great pumpkin is just a bot thrown together from spare parts from the Last Rites team, it was supposed to be a bit of fun and yet it can sort of compete with some of the big guys

I think the key point is why... it has crushed so many robots that it is in danger of braking its own chassis. It flexed with every compression of the weapon and its now on the edge of fatigue failure! [Note: I get to see Razer this weekend! Awesome!]

These are not robots they are remote controlled machines. A robot has to be autonomous, these vehicles are a million miles from that state.

so does jamie, he had blendo and if i remember correctly it was banned from robot wars (the California one) because it would chuck robot parts into the crowd. also on the first season of battle bots theres a small clip of jamie showing how to build electric roller blades with power drills

there was talk of James Cameron and discovery doing a new robot combat TV show called Robogeddon back in 2012, but i don't think anything came of it. A shame, since it might have been what was needed to bring some of the robots from the UK into contact with the US ones, and then maybe the UK would go back to having an actually good competition. (seriously, the current UK heavyweight championships dont even allow spinners anymore)

I would say that Last Rites is the next Nightmare. Nightmare takes out video cameras(Nightmare VS JunkYard Offspring), and Last Rites takes out light fixtures(Last Rite VS [unknown])

Nightmare didn't break open the ceiling to my knowledge. He did, however, send a 5lbs tooth into the audience. Lucky to have not killed someone, Jim Smentowski was forced to spin the weapon downwards intead of upwards for the remainder of the event. I think that happened during one of the rumbles. I see. An upgraded Surgeon General VS Last Rites would be interesting.

I was watching the combotscup channel a few days ago, there were only two or three bots that did something BESIDES be a useless wedge. At least flippers can throw shit around.

But in the end they did improve bots, and made self righting mechanisms the norm, if you arent prepared for them then youre going to suffer. Even fully bodies are starting to have self righting bars like megabyte

I have no idea whether Razer could compete with these robots or not. I only watched a handful of robot wars episodes when it was on. Most of my experience of robots battling is online in Robot Rage(on miniclip, come check it out, it's cool). However what is definitely true about Razer is this. It is a lot prettier than these robots. It is one of the most beautiful combat robots ever built.(and at the time it seemed pretty unique at the time, to me. All the other robots were spinners or flippers)

TostiTostelli I don't think so. Those bots are quite old and newer bots tend to perform better. The last time (I recall) Biohazard completed, it got obliterated. I think Storm II actually completed fairly recently in a ComBots championship. I don't remember hearing that it did too well either.

Milo Flint Combots does not allow flame weapons Propane and butane are the only allowed propellants. I know it is conflicting info, but that's what their own rules say lol.
