I will leave it that for now and just use it and get used to it but I may lightly weather it at a later stage, not sure yet which is why I want to wait. 👍🏻. Cheers. ………..Graham

Brilliant job 🎉 looks very real. How about closing the orange curtains to hide the chip and motor? Re the white blinds at the ends. this was the headcode box. Two reds were displayed on the rear of the unit, two whites were an option going forward but more usually any one or two digit number would be displayed as there was also a black option on the two roller blinds

To the best of my knowledge, the centre blind, had red panels to act as the red rear lights , instead of hanging a tail lamp, the white light was used to illuminate the route number. The southern. Region used route numbers, so station staff at places like Clapham, Croydon or London Bridge knew which train was which. I clearly remember the Southern drivers winding the blinds on arrival at Reading from Waterloo. Sorry for possibly stating the obvious. Your modelling skills are fabulous, love the lighting and the realism you have acheived.

Many thanks for your kind and informative comment David, it’s greatly appreciated ! Great looking and running EMU Graham, to try and cover the motor in mine I made false seats and sat passengers in near the windows to try and disguise the motor casing. At the rear guard end I placed a figure in the doorway again to hide `looking in`. It is surprising how many passengers you require, I managed about 75% of the seats! Looking at the shots of your platform edge I was wondering how you weathered them, was it powders or a wash as I have concrete edging and need to tone them done, many thanks for sharing regards Barry..

Graham, wonderfully done, the unit does look good, looking forward to getting mine on the road. I know you like historical facts, so here goes. The back tail light blinds would have been originally white but the vehicle would also have had a red tail lamp as per other coaching stock, then of the paraffin variety. It was felt in those days that the batteries were not reliable (it was the same on other units and tube stock) When they were found to be reliable the back blinds went to red and tailamps were no longer required. I seem to remember this was in the mid 60s on these units. At about the same time the front headcode numbers were reduced in size.

Looks great Graham, that lighting is quite superb and really looks the part. I used to travel quite extensively on these trains in the late 70s and into the 80s both before and after their refurbishment so the lighting effect brings back memories of them, particularly in the evening or at night. Incidentally, for the rear blind, have you thought about fitting a red LED for when it’s the rear coach and a white LED for when it’s leading ? Another point, I think Bachmann have got the TCK vehicle wrong (the trailer with 3 windows and four windows). From what I remember, the part of the coach with three windows had three larger compartments than the part of the coach with four windows. I’m pretty sure 1st Class was the three larger compartments. Unless my memory has faded of the years !

Hi Davie and thank you. Several folk have said about adding a photo of the interior or adding down curtains to that area but I’m still going to go for a couple of people first, I can use black tack initially just to see what it looks like but if that doesn’t work the I will think about the interior shot or drawn curtains. It’s not that urgent to be honest especially if the ‘three foot rule’ is established - from three feet away then it’s just not noticeable. Cheers. ………..Graham

@GrahamFoulston
@GrahamFoulston 8 ай бұрын
Hi Les and thanks for the comment. It doesn’t matter if it DC or DCC, if you use the LED strips on a roll then it should work in either DC or DCC mode, all you are doing is supplying power to the LED strip which will light up when current is applied, they will be off when stationary in DC mode of course but will light up when power from the controller is applied. You could get the battery operated versions from Train Tec but the batteries will need changing from time to time. Hope that helps a little. 👍🏻. Cheers. ………..Graham

@@lestercooper1871. Hi Lester, that’s exactly the same way I did the lights in my Hornby Teak coaches - exactly the same method but on these I used the pickups already there to bring the power up to the LED strip directly and not using any of the existing electronics. The lights are now no longer dependent on the draw bar supplied so if I put just one coach on the track by itself it lights up - assuming there is power to that part of the track that is.
