@Chip sadly my cocktail died from cancer and 6 yrs later my terrapin(whose name was Chip) died at the vets office. the vet had a relatively busy morning that day so he told us all to leave our pets with the receptionist and to come n get them later in the evening. after a few hours we received a call that someone's cat attacked and k¡lled him. so... :(

my lovebirds are the same way. they are actually fairly quiet most of the time but get a bit talkative in the morning, then in the midafternoon for a little bit and their loudest hour id say id say is anywhere from 5-7 oclock they get super chirpy and screechy. thanksgiving the other night we were in the other room having our dinner and they were making a racket i was like what is going on over there lol. they were just eating and playing. my lovebirds actually just had 2 babies that are a week old about but they are still in the nest so my female lovie stays in the nest most of the day now but she comes out in the evening to eat... figure the parents must be celebrating a few moments of peace away from the babies while having dinner and playing before they have to go back to the nest to feed the chicks.

My little sister got a cockateil, she really wanted one... she said she will be really responsible! when she got him (he was a baby and never had a human owner before!) she didnt want to clean his cage or bathe him or clean any of the seeds on the floor :( she wanted to get rid for him for "being untamed and mean." my parents agreed to get him back to the pet store not on my watch!! and i begged them to keep him as my parrot and they finally agreed for a last chance now lemon is my best friend!!i always take care of him my sister wanted him after i tamed him, i told her no but she can still play with him if you ever get any pet just be patient with it and trust me it will get used to you :) i really dont blame my sister sine she was young

I’m going to be honest here, as much as I love cockatoos I would never have them entirely because of the screaming thing, same thing with other parrots and related birds. I have strangely sensitive ears and we do have other pets which might freak out if they heard such a loud noise constantly which is exactly why I keep doves instead. There’s nothing wrong with cockatiels, they are just doing what comes naturally to them but still, I know my limits and I hope other people understand the commitment they are getting invested in. Trust me, there’s a lot of birds I’d adore but I wouldn’t have for the same reason, it sucks but it’s life

It’s okay. Doves are beautiful birds. My mom loves them and pigeons. Many people own doves and pigeons here in my country. The owners often let them fly freely but the birds are gonna come back home anyway. So sometimes I see a dove or pigeon on my roof and I’ll know they belong to someone else.

At the end.. Cockatiels are just like any other pet who requires correct care!! Every single pet will have some things that some people can't deal with! That's okay! The only problem is people who don't research and just buy a bird or any pet expecting it to be the perfect pet. Then find out that the bird isn't the best fit for them :( Always do research!!! It's the best thing you could do for a pet! My pigeon is death staring at me for watching this and not cuddling him ;-;

I have my bird in my room, and I am a very light sleeper. Luckily my bird is very chill and sleepy at night, but when he does get night frights, I can get there in a few steps because I wake up immediately. It's really nice knowing I can comfort him when he's scared like that, and even though I would sometimes like to sleep through my alarm, I'm happy I wake up so easily for night frights

I love this video. You speak so much sense here. It is obvious you both love and respect your birds. My own beloved but ancient cockatiel (24 years old and still young!) was an aviary raised bird but she does love scritches and is very cuddly and friendly. I think female cockatiels tend to be less demonstrative, but they certainly can bond with their keepers. I don't think they are harder to tame- they just don't show affection in the same way. Your female cockatiel behind you is obviously enjoying your company, she's just being quiet about it! It did take five weeks for her to really come to bond and trust me- and vice versa, since I knew she wanted to carve the meat from my bones when I first became her Human Slave! However, I believe this success in bonding with her is partly due to her personality, but also due to the fact I have kept birds since I was in single digits. It takes patience, empathy and a lot of reading to really get birdie psychology!

Every 'tiel has a different personality. My bird Moki is one of the few Aviary Raised birds that are social towards me and my family. However there is one thing that I warn for new owners, COCKATIELS ARE DUSTY also Aviary Raised birds typically aggressive towards people when first introduced. Also my bird was from a "low attention" household that treated her like a piece of furniture whilst now she is a loud and proud small cockatiel that loves scritches. Lastly THE POOP cockatiels poop all the time.

I have 4 parrots , 2 lovebirds and 2 conures (green cheek and black capped) Parrots are wonderful, but … the cute cuddly goofy side you see on the internet is not reality for a lot of bird owners. None of my birds are cuddly birds , they hate scritches and being pet. Only 1 I can , he is a tiny baby tho. So unsure how he will grow up. (Trying to socialize him a lot tho) but I can train them all and they are all doing recall or target training. Which is super fun way to bond with them. But birds are temperamental jerks , and puberty and hormones are awful to deal with. Conures and lovebirds tho are known to be bitey , screamy , chaotic jerks lol. Also the noise level is a lot .. but I honestly love the noise lol it sounds like home

Omg my cockatiel is named Yuki too! She's a female cockatiel, she was under 6 months old when she was handed to me and was aviary raised, I have her for around 2 month now and the first week I kept her in her cage and just sat with her as much as possible, began target training her inside the cage and giving her food on a bowl I was holding every day, target training btw has been my best way of getting close to my cockatiel, she began coming out of her cage on her own at the third week and I kept pushing through training with her at least 90 minutes (by this I mean just having her out and training with her whenever she was up for it) every day and spending as much time with and around her as I possibly could, I never let the preconceived notion of what she'd be able to do get to me, and I haven't so far experienced any night frights with her even though she's young and both covering the cage and a night light on (I enjoy sleeping with one too so it's fine by me) has helped me have no issues with that so far. Anyway fast forward to now and the help of my glasses that Yuki loves to nible on she is now stepping up on me, resting on my shoulder and my head, fully target trained, will recall if I put her down and we're training (I have to go get her myself outside of training) she does spins on command, flys over to me of her own free will just to hangout with me, LOVES scritches so much she'll literally rub her head on my fingers all on her own, learned to whistle a catcall thanks to my dad and is learning currently La Cucaracha also on her own free will. I had budgies before and had never once tried to train any of my previous birds on my own I'd say my biggest advice would be, don't listen to preconceived notions of what your bird may or may not be able to do but keep your expectations low so anything that comes feels like a victory, be patient and kind with your bird and respect their boundaries ALWAYS, get them a treat food that they'll only get when training,TARGEt train your birds, keep them fully flighted and teach them to fly safely instead in a bird proofed environment, spend at least 1h a day with your bird giving them your undivided attention, keep a bird separate from other birds until you bond with them to make the process easier, don't hold any bites against the bird they're not out to get you and most important of all to me truly trust you bird, if your bird feels you are not scared of them and that you trust them not to hurt you it will likely not hurt you. (Also other important advice is take your bird to the vet and get them checked out when you first get them just to make sure there are no issues lurking).

I had a hand-raised lovebird when i was a teenager - i raised her myself from 5 weeks old but when she hit the 'hormonal age' she started getting real nasty and i didnt have enough time with school to help her work thru it. it got to the point where i was afraid to take her out of the cage. (i still let her out but not as often as she needed) i ended up rehoming her for her own best interest to a friend of my moms who owned an aviary inside a flowershop. It was a long time ago but i think about her sometimes and hope she was much happier in the aviary with other birds and where she didnt have to worry about humans trying to be all up in her business unless she wanted them to. (avairy was in a flower shop so she could potentially flock down to workers or customers if she WANTED attention but it was her choice) I have 2 other lovies now that im an adult and have more time on my hands and i love them and am patient to give them time and space to bond with me but it makes me sad sometimes when i think back to my childhood bird and wish i could have done more for her personally after being the one to raise her by hand as a baby it was hard giving her up even if it was for the better. we got updates from moms friend for the first few years though and she seemed to be happy where she was- even started laying eggs herself.

Thank you for this honest video! This is exactly what I needed to watch. I am thinking of getting another cockatiel after years of not owning one. I had several cockatiels growing up (along with many other birds... we had a large aviary at my parent's house). My first one was the BEST cockatiel I ever had (named him Cleo... we were told HE was a girl when he was a baby, but, well, he wasn't, lol). He was incredibly loving and looked very similar and acted very similar to your bird (he sang, talked, did heart wings, and loved scritches). Unfortunately, we got a friend for him (a male that was not nearly as friendly even though he was handfed) since I was away at school a lot and he completely lost interest in me. I had several other cockatiels after that and never found one as loving as Cleo. This was when I was a kid. I am in my thirties now and work from home (and rarely ever travel) and would love to find another cockatiel as a companion. They are very hard to find in my area, surprisingly (San Francisco bay area... it could just be the time of year since it's fall here now). I don't plan to rush this at all and want to find a very loving handfed, male bird (not interested in females... I have never had luck with them... they tend to be a lot shyer and nippy in my experience). How did you find Yuki and how long did it take you to find the right bird? This is not something I want to rush into at all and I've been doing a lot of research the past few months. I rushed into things with a few birds in the past and regretted it because they ended up not being very good pets. Yuki is such a sweetie. : ) Love your videos and keep up the great work!

Please do a video on Indian Ringnecks, my mother bought one because "they're so cute". While they are and I absolutely love my little guy (which I've stolen from her) they are a huge amount of work. They're loud, they're messy, and they have the mind of a 3 year old for the entirety of their lives which can be as long as 30-45 years. People need to be aware that the cute pet they see someone else have may not be correct for their current home and they bond so strongly with their people that I hate the idea of one being rehomed.

There’s a chance that I’m allergic to birds, but I fell in love with them anyway and researched them with many articles and videos, and by watching you! But I’m trying to get to an allergist as soon as possible, and if I’m allergic, I’m not sure a cockatiel is the best option with all the allergens they carry. Is there any chance I could still get a bird if I take care of the allergens well enough? I don’t want to get a bird to not be able to play with it because of my allergies. Also, I don’t think I could handle the bigger birds, even though I do love watching them. I just really want a feathered friend, and I don’t want to give up on them because of my messed up allergies.

My parrotlet is a hand raised bird but it still took me 2 and a half months before she trusted me enough to climb on to my finger. Parrotlets can be very territorial and bitey so I always make sure that I give her enough personal space. Still, I get bitten all the time when she’s cranky and I approach her too quickly. People incline to think that since parrotlets are so tiny they must be cute and timid but seriously they’re naturally super fierce and can be hostile at times. Pet owners should always educate themselves before purchasing/owning the animals. Anyway, thank you for trying to educate others about this. All birds are different and people should always try to understand their nature before blaming them for their “bad behaviors”

Great advise as usual. This advise is also applicable to all the other different kinds of pet parakeet and most other birds. I cringe when I see people with poor terrified new pet birds which have been wing clipped and the owners are 'force taming' them. Basically they are torturing the scared bird till its exhausted and gives in to what they want. That is no way to treat an animal. Your way is the most rewarding for the owners too as they know their birds really like them and are not a frightened 'slave' to them.

My cockatiel is a young female (she's like half year i think? But yes in pet shop it was said she's young and she also has pink beak and legs) We got her few weeks ago and she doesn't mind getting on my hand, etc. She also sometimes gets on my head for some reason. Oh and she's quiet and usually screams at morning on weekends (she just screams, i talk with her, go out of the room, she again screams, i go back and talk). She also doesnt mind scritches but often preens after them or just moves head a lot and i cant really scritch her Sometimes i feel like she is offended or smth like that and i feel sad and guilty. Also a question, is it fine if her cage isnt very big, but we let her fly around the room? Also its not the real problem but the fact she can fly around only one room (we have dogs and cats, also we have a big mirror in the hallway) And also another question, what is a chain pet store? I googled it but didnt really understand

my 2 lovebirds (male female pair) just had 2 babies . neither of the parents like scritches and im okay and respect that (the male lets me rub his beak and head a little bit when i handfeed him treats- the female i wouldnt dare even try im barely able to handfeed her the treat without her biting my finger off lol, she does not like fingers) but i plan on handraising the babies once they get to 3 weeks and really getting them used to being handled and scritches with fingers so hopefully ill have at least one or 2 birds i can give scrtichies to. (not sure if im keeping both babies yet-- i want to but we'll see how it goes and if the parents are okay with them staying sometimes parents try to 'kick the babies out of the nest' so we'll see. i might have to just get a 2nd cage but i dont have a lot of space in my apartment either so... blah i plan on keeping them tho if all goes well. i dont trust anyone else to take care of my babies and give them nice big flight cages etc. too many people keep lovebirds in tiny cages because they are small birds, but lovebirds are very active, love to fly and need just as much space as a larger parrot.

so far in my life time i’ve had three cockateils the first one we loved so much he was like the nicest boy ever but unfortunately he died after he flew away and got killed by a crow.the second bird was just not very nice but we thought the bird was a male but soon we found out it was a female and when we gave them away to our friend it fell in love with this teenaged guy.soon after she lauded eggs- we where very surprised about that.the third bird we still have and he’s fallen in love with me and i agree there is poop EVRYWHERE! (this was a male)

So, my cockatiel was abused by my grandmother (locked in a closet for 15 years) and my mother threatened to call ASPCA on her if she didn't give us the bird, so she did, and my cockatiel Nick always bites and snaps/hisses at anyone when they even LOOK in his direction, and he spreads his wings wide and ducks down and starts to flap violently too, Also screeching. I guess I can understand why he would act that way, but can someone tell me exactly what it means?

How do you prevent yours from breeding? I have a baby tiel who just finished their first molt. I believe it’s a girl but not 100% yet. I want to get her a friend but I don’t want them to mate- but I love that the males are more talkative and heart wings etc. other than keeping in separate cages which I don’t want to do (I have a massive one for my baby) I’m not sure how to do that. Also the breeder I used didn’t dna test before buying so it would be a risk when I get a second on what they’d be. I lucked out with Figgy though, scritches day 1 and is a stage 5 clinger lol ❤

Hey I love your videos. I bought a cockatiel today and noticed after bringing it home that the feathers stayed fluffed. It had dry crust or snot in it's nose. I washed him and he's sleeping now but his feathers stay fluffed. He also looks over weight and only 6 months old. He's been sleep since 4 and non active. Could it be due to the store owner clipping it's wings or bad health. Also another cockatiel in the cage had a bald head. I don't have money for a the vet right now and don't want to believe he's sick. Any home remedies or advice you can give me?

Mines 12 weeks old, was hand fed, but they weren't tamed. They aren't happy with me, they don't like being picked up, held or getting headpats/scritches. I'm pretty disappointed because I wanted a bird to be super cuddly ): he just screams and bites me all the time and I'm trying to work with him so came here, not sure what should I do. Edit: He'll sit on my shoulder then freak out when I have to move him off. Should I get another one for them to bond with?
