Venezuela's African history. In this video, I visit several historic sites like the Cultural Music School of Pablo Rada in Curiepe and an afro-descendant community in San José Barlovento to learn more about the black people that live in Venezuela and its African history.
San José de Barlovento is a city in the state of Miranda, Venezuela. It is the capital of Andrés Bello Municipality, Miranda, and is known to host a large community of Afro Venezuelans who cultivate chocolate. While visiting there I was able to witness a game of baseball played by a black Venezuelan team.
Curiepe is an Afro-Venezuelan town in the state of Miranda Venezuela founded by free slaves. known as the mecca of Afro-Venezuelan Curiepe there you can visit a cultural music school and a cultural Museum that educates people about Venezuela's African heritage. At the end of June, they host a huge celebration for the Saints of the slave's San Juan Bautista. During the celebration, people march in the street dancing to the beat of the Congos of San Juan.

I’m African, part of the Bantu ppl of Central, South and East Africa. Those artifacts from the museum like the wooden tools used to pound corn, cages to catch fish etc - those are tools still used by the Bantu ppl in Africa. The lady who narrated the history of the town and ppl said their ppl came from the Congo , that makes sense. The tools and some of the African words or names are from the Bantu languages. ACE big up brother, I really like ur work. You’re using ur platform to educate, shine light on the parts that otherwise ppl will not know about. That community is so inspirational, it speaks to the resilience of Black ppl world wide, that despite the efforts of white supremacists to destroy Black identity, it still thrives and survives. Good job brother!!

I knew of the African slaves across Latin America but I had no knowledge about this African diaspora in Venezuela and how they are preserving their beautiful culture by passing on to the younger generations. As Africans and black people our culture was robbed and stolen. Yet globally they continue to profit on the black culture in every aspects of society, music, dance etc. Thank you Bro for bringing this content to us. Hey, Ace, I was just commenting to my Venezuelan girlfriend in Bucaramanga (I'm in Buckeye, AZ) about your visit to Barlovento and Curiepe, places where you never hear about. The lady at the end of the video is very knowledgeable and seems to have had some advanced education the way she knows her history about the region and the Afro culture. She really should write a book before all that knowledge is lost. I told my girlfriend that in the US, 99.99 % of non-Afro know anything about Afro culture the way you depicted it in your video. I am latino so I can't speak for the Afro culture. So I would like to congratulate you on showing an all Afro town in Venezuela and showing what it's like down there. The music cultural hall was very well kept (they should have just built some stairs instead of going up and down those corridors). In the 50's, Venezuela had a big impact on Latin music just as Cuba and Mexico. So music learning is still deep in the hearts of Venezuelan people and that is a great thing. Thanks for this video. I doubt I will see another like it.

Ace, the mortar & pestle he showed you, used to grind maize for arepa is as old as the African continent. It is used until this day in many African countries to pound "Fufu", "yam" and many other staples. I really appreciate this video of African descendants in Venezuela. As an African who lived in the Caribbean for decades, you'll be surprised about hair discrimination in parts of the Caribbean, there are incidents like that in the Bahamas, even Trinidad. Fortunately times are changing and people are allowed to embrace all of their Africaness as they choose. Once again, Thank you dear brother so much for this video. And safe travels

You have to understand that South American demographics and culture have very complex elements. All our culture is heavily influenced by Africa. Even white latinos, either they want it or not, are marinated in African heritage. It is not like the USA were its easier to draw the lines. In Latin America, a very big percentage of people are mixed. Especially in countries like colombia and Venezuela. If you really look at Venezuela, I would say 60-70% have some Afro ancestry to different extent. It's really a multifaceted nation, like the city of Cali colombia, the ethnic diversity is incredible. So I wouldn't call it hiding since it's so obvious that almost all latin culture has Afro elements. But it's true that colourism permeates through Latin culture. That's why the buety standards often evolve around European looks. Its the same in Vietnam and Thailand, for example, especially for women. They are rarely outside because they don't want to get darker, and being darker is also a sign of outside labour, which gives you a lower status. Colorism in Latin America is sad yes.

The problem he is having is because he has such a mix audience. His white audience won't support him enough to like a video and black people are just notorious for not doing likes all together. youll see the same people go on other white travel channels and leave thousands of comments and make sure they like the button but the video will be lame and then Ace upload something and it'll have high production value, packed with information and he has to struggle to get likes. I feel like people will start supporting him when he doesn't need their support anymore. that's just the way Hollywood works anyways. It will take Ace to finally get the recognition from some random turn of events for his channel to get the proper recognition from the people who are already watching today shm. Watch some random dude to the same neighborhood and get a million views for talking to one black person and eating some soup

Quick tip, Ace. In Spanish, we don’t use the verb To Play (jugar) for instruments/music. We use the verb To Touch (tocar) for music. Yo toco guitarra, el/ella toca tambores, ellos tocan trompeta, nosotros tocamos música, etc. 🤘🏽

i like when she said you must put history in the children's head so that they do not suffer from " ethnic embarrassment". Reminds me of a friend from Puerto Rico who was shocked to hear that there were slaves in PR- or Kanye thinking slavery was a choice of the enslaved.

Hey Ace I’m watching this video right now and wow the gem 💎 of wisdom that the woman just spoke about the Africans in Venezuela was magnificent. Do you think you can mention how people could give to the people with help for their schools for example. That would be so awesome to be able to donate to help out a people and know your donations is going directly where it’s needed 😊❤️👍🏾

Your coverage is highly informative and greatly appreciated. Thank you for your excellent work. I'm tuning in from Cameroon, Africa. According to Professor Lisa Aubrey, as detailed in her book "In Search Of Bimbia," approximately 70% of the African population in South America can trace their roots back to the slave port of Bimbia in Cameroon. It's noteworthy that the slave castle in Bimbia spans over 26 hectares, making it one of the largest in Africa. Western governments stopped our government to teach us the history of Bimbia.

@SD SD why should I believe it ? Cause historians , books , movies say so? They also say humans come from apes I'm simply saying brown skinned individuals are found primarily in the southern hemisphere as indigenous what makes the America's any different?
