All the people who hated on Robert Pattinson for Twilight and ignored the rest of his filmography looked really stupid right now.

This really was the story of Vengeance learning to be better than Vengeance.

I was neutral about this film until release, but left happily surprised. A Batman film with growth that doesn’t have Lego in the title? Sign me up! Zoe Kravitz absolutely understanding the assignment? Even better! Jeffrey Wright as the definitive Jim Gordon? You spoil us! But seriously, it’s as simple as Bruce starting the movie as “the darkness” and learning to become a literal light in the darkness by the end. Bless and protect R.Batz.

I'm glad I finally have a film I can use as an example for why I understand what BvS Batman was trying to do but never fully subscribed to it It felt like this film's critique of Bruce's endless obsession with basically trying to stitch up the unhealed wounds of his parents' demise went way deeper than just having Alfred talk him out of his predicament. Batman in this film is basically a product of Gotham's corruption and he spent the film teetering on the edge of succumbing to its more seductive qualities, especially emphasized by his family background as a blood relative to the Arkham family. When he ends his arc having received clarity on how he directly inspires the corruption in his city through people like Edward Nashton, it felt like the film had really been centered around Bruce being in the metamorphosis stage to becoming the Batman that we know, and could be why he is almost never referred to by that name over the course of the film. It was by that point that he actually learned to embrace his humanity and compassion again and it was exceptionally executed.

I like the analysis you made about Bruce looking for a father figure in this film. I'd like it if the sequel would explore Bruce looking for a mother figure, cuz usually Martha is always set aside (The Nolan Trilogy is guilty of doing this) This would work well with Mr.Freeze as the Villain, Freeze wanting to save his wife, the love of his life, he wants to save her cuz he doesn't want to lose her like he did with his Mother. Maybe have Poison Ivy as a secondary Villain who is a corrupted version of the Mother figure, like how Falcone is the corrupted Father Figure of this film. Have Ivy manipulate Freeze. I think Anya Taylor-Joy would make a great Poison Ivy.

Excellent video, man. Glad that I’m not the only one who thinks this way. Despite it being a exceptionally dark movie, The Batman feels so oddly hopeful compared to its contemporaries. This movie, I think, *nailed* Batman’s morality and psychology, maybe even more so than the Nolan Trilogy.

Utterly beautiful analysis, the first point of yours that I instantly strongly agreed with was the one about how Reeves portrays The Batman as a surreal and inherently illogical concept and runs with it by framing the film from this first person character-study angle. One major thing about Nolan's Batman films was that they were very focused on "rationalizing" each aspect of Batman and his existence in that role under some logical mechanism as to how someone could take on such a crusade. That certainly worked for the direction of that trilogy, but The Batman's presentation of his psyche and thought process as JUST IS and an obsession he holds onto because it's the last thread he's holding onto so he's not completely overtaken by trauma feels more true to the characters and the source material to me personally. People talk about the lack of playboy persona but that was never Bruce Wayne imo, it's a theatrical projection he hides behind when in the public just like Batman is when he's out there fighting crime. But between those personas is Bruce, the scared boy still traumatized by the death of his parents and brooding in the batcave; The Batman didn't neglect Bruce, it showed the real him unfiltered. And that's why I believe that this is the most sincere live-action adaptation of the character.

This movie was honestly THE Batman film I've been waiting for, for years. I've always had some sort of personal issue with every previous live action version of batman always feeling like they ignored, misunderstood or were missing certain aspects of the character and his world. But this movie did everything and included everything I've wanted a Batman movie to include for years. From the detective aspects, to a Gotham that feels like a character to itself, to the deep character study on bruce and an actual understanding that Batman is a hero to gotham not just a vigilante who beats up criminals. I'm definitely of the mindset that Batman should be able to do two opposite things. 1. Be Scary enough to criminals that they are terrified of the idea of encountering him and 2. despite that still be able to comfort a random scared child on a personal level. Batman TAS/Justice League cartoon understood this, and this movie also does. (SPOILER ALERT) You cannot imagine how happy I was at the movie opening with the mere idea of him terrifying criminals around the city and then towards the end this random woman clings onto him out of safety and he has to reassures her that it's safe to go with the paramedics.

This movie brings a new light on what Batman actually means as a person; beyond the "mentally insane rich white guy who beats the poor into a pulp and is an incompetent vigilante who should kill the villains", now the people who are always hating on the character can see the movie with a more open mind and see that Batman can be just as if not more inspiring and hopeful than Superman or other characters.

The amount of people who came out of The Batman and said they just watched a man accomplish nothing really shows the lack of even the slightest media literacy. They find the intro edgy, great, he is off his rocker, but then they find the outtro pointless because Riddler still set off his bombs. Sad they missed how purposeful it all was, he was stuck and he had a great revelation. I can't even say the Hero's journey became metaphorical towards the end, he literally almost died, revived himself, verbalizes his change and returned home, and people still miss it.

After watching Moon Knight Episode 5 I know that trauma episode for it is going to be phenomenal already

There’s something hilarious about a “total virgin” Bruce Wayne as you put it😂 And the fact that Selina is SO much for him to handle kind of explains his chasteness with her. He doesn’t know what to do with…all that. Haha. And just in general, I mean, depending on which universe we’re talking about, Bruce is still never quite the ladykiller the public persona plays him as; he can’t be. His worst habit is sleeping with other people’s S.O.s. 😂 But in general he’s only had a handful of real loves and people who have known his secret. Almost all of his emotional capacity is sublimated into a violent expression, leaving almost no room for anything else. Batman never really has time for love.

This movie to me is such an amazing early Batman movie with him actually having to learn what it truly means to be Batman which I feel so many movies and interpretations stumble over because he isn’t just pure rage amd vengeance he needs to be able to provide support give hope and help others especially with that opening scene where he terrified the man he just saved from muggers a stark contrast to the end where he actively works as a sort of beacon guiding and trying to help others

Very good. The Batman is my favorite Batman movie to date. Brought the Detective back in Detective Comics, and showed a new Batman new at his game. I loved the video montage with the music at the end. Did you know that the movie was based on Batman Year One and No Man's Land?

You brought up an excellent point about Reeves take on Batman. That being someone whom is initially laughed upon by those who come across him until his drive make them begin to believe. It sort of mirrors how I, and probably others, felt about this batman initially. I remember seeing the screen test for the first time and thinking “ah man, really?” After what I felt was the excellent visualization of Batman in the Snyder films, this seemed like a downgrade. However when I saw more and more of Pattinson in the cowl, I slowly but surely came around to it. This is why I think Pattinson might be the one that shines above others who’ve donned the cowl. His physical performance alone gives so much presence to this Batman that I truly believe in him as the character in a way I felt most of the other actors weren’t given the chance to. Mostly due to the limitations of the earlier suits. However to give credit, those limitations did, in a way, give those Batman a distinct body language that defined him in live action for a long time (bat turn). Bale particularly used his first suit’s limitations to create an animalistic edge. He got headaches in it and channeled it to make his Batman fierce. Unfortunately, to me, that was lost with his second suit and he just kinda walked around like a guy in a rubber suit most of the time. Pattinson however had the most comfort and flexibility while still developing a physical performance. Sure his costume is kinda rudimentary compared to the rest of the bat suits, but the filmmaking and Rob Pat really make you look past that. Long post, sorry

This film was Bruce's journey from being the Bat - a mythical monster that preys on those it's convinced are collectively and intrinsically responsible for his parents' death - to being the Man; coming out of the shadows and into the light, to bring hope back to a city he feels responsible for destroying, even if indirectly

i have yet to see the video but to answering the start yeah realistically someone who traveled the world to learn martial arts should have learned to control his anger and let the past die but that’s also what i love about first years batman he’s so angry about what happened to him that all the training he got was just a mean to an end, not the bigger picture he learned all but in his first years he didn’t care about the mind training, only the physical one it embrace the fact that batman stubbornness is not just for how he was trained but also from who he is he is that much stubborn (at least at young age) to assimilate only the stuff he needs in the moment to fight crime and not the bigger lesson about martial arts

There it is again. Another thing. First it’s Fantastic Four’s “[Problem 101] Solve everything” and now “optimal human”. My brain needs to stop liking stuff like that

Damn I wanted to talk to about this before you put out of hope. The things that really gets me about you as you see the world as I did. But this is not just the mirror of the riddler and Batman but it’s their very personal context they bring and how that contexts blinds them. As we take the blind assumption that we are watching the riddler and not one of his followers: or partners. He is not physical and sees Batman as the ultimate precision in fear and focused violence. He thought he had found a kindered spirit in bruce. If you take a step back there are some logical decisions discrepancies that suggests he wasn’t trying to kill bruce. Indulge me for a second. 1. The plan, it’s execution, and his level of his disappointment… when his plan to kill bruce Wayne fails. Start with the inconsistent motivations of building up bruce as the most important kill, then only sending a letter prolly dropped by a follower with no one behind to actually make sure bruce got the letter?! 1a. This letter being dropped off was timed, to when Edward sent Batman to the orphanage for more context. This gives a hint that he may know his identity, but the bigger issue is if edward didn’t want to threaten Batman and bruce then why was his not to Batman read “see you in hell” now we are supposed to belief that Edward did not know that was a phrase used to threaten people. See you in hell, the like saying goodbye bc the next time you see each other, you would both be dead. We have to buy that Edward didn’t know that phrase despite his strength in bringing people to his cause. Sorry but he wanted Batman to know he figured out his identity. Not to show him up but to impress him. The logic behind going after bruce Wayne has its own set of rules. No other corrupt person , had such strict crimes. Falcone prolly should answer for his fathers sins as well which were actually crimes. But thomas Wayne didn’t keep his promise bc he was dead at the time!!! So it’s my belief that no one can become a millionaire in Gotham without getting your hands dirty and Alfred is still keeping a lot from bruce. Alfred didn’t go well trained combat intelligence to being a nanny. The Wayne’s needed stronger protection and would still be friendly and give the cartels their piece of the pie. 2.the way bruce and Edward got through their traumas were different completely. Edward was right, Bruce’s money did protect him but also it isolated him from the world. He only understood if he wanted change he had to fight for it himself. Vengeance was his fight to save his parents every night he goes out as Batman. Edward understood you survive through your family and community. So vengeance to him, meant exposing the truth and enacting change. This story never says Edwards a villian. His intentions are more noble then Batman’s. When he says babies died bc of the cold, he gives the impression that he and other orphans kept each other warm through those cold winters. 3. Saying bruce Wayne 4@3 times slowly while wholly focused on Batman’s reaction. He lets him off bc he can see like we do that he cracking. So he lets him off, not to use later but bc that wasn’t the point. He wanted to be friends and revealing his identity doesn’t help that goal. Unfortunately, bruce is not a mature Batman and doesn’t cleverly see this as an opurtunity to find and stop the bombs. Bruce is in a place that’s broken and starts yelling all his thoughts and insecurities about himself. I believe he is projecting and this is his darkest hour. He also rejects Edward who fear of abandonment is triggered . The end up hating each other bc of the mirror shows them they are hypocrites. All in all, it tackles the truth of someone who watched his parents die and how it still eats at him. Best Batman movie so far. The man of steel treatment is exactly the Batman needed. Even El rata lada, honestly sounds like a bat then anything to do with a falcon Good video if you want answer To any point ask here

I know a lot of performances from this film are being lauded and rightly so, but can I just say John Turturro was magnificent. The mob always plays a large role in early Batman stories, but none of the movies have ever portrayed the ruthlessness of organized crime like Turturro did in this movie. I left the theater thinking Turturro could’ve been Whitey Bulger in another life.

Riddler not knowing that Bruce is Batman because he believes Bruce is a selfish rich guy who docan't care about Gotham is similar to Vicki Vale in the Telltale Batman game. If you reveal your identity to Vicki to save Alfred she can't reconcile Bruce being the city's hero Batman with her idea that he's as evil as his dad who had her parents murdered causing her to end up with the abusive Vales who only fostered kids for the money.

I don't really like Batman angry, but I think he should be early on. Although I never thought about his travels having enlightened him, it makes sense; but Batman shouldn't return to Gotham still wanting to use fear as a weapon and having no journey left in his story. I think quintessential Batman should fail his final test in his travels, be unable to have that last lesson click and be frustrated that he was told he hasn't succeeded. I think Batman's journey should conclude when he is Batman, snapping when challenged as Batman, but figuring out to detach himself from vengeance by fighting crime in Gotham. It would be good to see him fail in his travels to give context to his self-actualization, but I do agree that his anger should be moved past early on. He should finish his arc (like Pattinson did, but maybe with more context to his journey) and then have a flat character arc where he doesn't change, but changes others around him (healing/redeeming Robin, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, etc.), like I hope happens in the sequel.

Batinnson takes 5 hits to beat down one random zoomer out in Gotham metro Arkham Batman takes 5 hits to beat down 10 high-skill trained mercenaries. Most soyjak batman ever so far. His plot armor, when criminals with guns are shooting him into chest, but can't aim in head while he stood still is a truly masterpiece. So it's his batsuit's design - bulletproof armor everywhere, except head, which is covered with a rubber mask. The Batman movie is my favorite movie so far, especially when El Rata-Al Lada said "It's batting time"

The grant Morrison version of Bruce Wayne is wrong or at least something I don't agree with and you would get it fi you watched Gotham knights or so I think it's called in this animated movie connected to the Nolanverse we follow Bruce on his search for enlightenment in the end he is chased away because he gains the skill and not the philosophy . Batman might be a 6.5 beast of a man but beneath that he is just a kid in an the dark crime filled streets watching his mom's bloody pearls fall to the ground Batman's training is a story of getting your wants and non of your needs

I disagree with your take on young angry Batman. It definitely makes sense for his journey through his early years. While being a master of many different fighting styles, and many other arts at his core he's still an 8 year old boy who lost his parents. The soul reason he did all that training is because of his trauma. He makes it his life's mission to become something for criminals to fear. But as he grows he internalizes his anger and he is outwardly emotionless except towards those he cares for.
