This is very well researched and presented. Good job, Mike! I personally have two connections to this story, albeit secondhand. The first is a friend and former housemate named Bryan. He worked for a time as a Correctional Officer at the prison medical facility in Vacaville. He dealt with Charlie on a near daily basis. When asked what he thought of Manson he replied, “Charlie is a liar...he told me several times he was gonna have me killed, but I’m still here...” The second was a former Texas Correctional Officer I met while working in a automotive custom shop in Elk Grove back in 2001. This guy told me he encountered and spoke with Tex Watson. According to him, Watson was temporarily transferred to his place of work because Watson’s mother was seriously ill and they thought she was at death’s door. While there, Tex (who was a borne-again Christian by then) brought up several topics, with one of them being that he didn’t pick up Brian Wilson like people were saying, but it was Dennis Wilson he picked up after Wilson’s VW Microbus had broken down. He said he gave Dennis a ride home, and when Dennis invited him inside to share a joint, Charlie was in the living room playing a guitar and singing a song with some girls. So yeah, Dennis, not Brian. Anyway, keep up the good work!👍🏾

I really feel that Dennis's tragic and premature death was largely brought on by the fact he could never come to terms with the fact that he almost lost his life because of his association with the Manson family. If you were to write a fictional account of a group like the Beach Boys and incorporate all the bizarre elements of this incredible tragedy, it would never sell; simply because the reviewers would say that none of the fantastic elements could have never happened. But they did.

In March '69, Manson stopped by Cielo Drive to find Melcher. Tate was in the middle of a photo shoot. So, Manson spoke with Rudy Altobelli (who owned the house). Frykowski was there as well. Two of the victims actually got a look at Manson five months before the murders. Scary.

Lost my whole message so I’ll start over. 😖 Basically - I’d like to say I agree ! Thank you for doing the video. I wish people wouldn’t always associate Dennis Wilson to Manson. Dennis wrote some great music. - if he was still here - he’d never live that story down. I do believe Dennis was haunted by all this even after Manson went to jail. They stalked him - harassed him. I believe he found a small pad to stay in and he was comfortable with it. He didn’t go back to his other house. Supposedly they played head games with Dennis, would break inside and move his furniture around to mess with his head & use fear to control him, and call him on the phone and breathe, etc. I think you’re right though -Dennis couldn’t get straight after that - with his mind - it tortured him. Very sad. Sure wish he’d never drove on that road that day. Somehow really liked Manson but woke up one day - saw how he was building a cult following or sormething, also thst they destroyed 2 of his cars out at spawn ranch - lit one on fire end the other drove it into a wall. But Dennis was enjoying it for a while - however they were spreading around std’s. Wow. I think he got caught up in it and was manipulated by way of Manson. He ordered His women to do it. Then Dennis woke up & realized half his money was gone. He was really messed up by that. Probably needed therapy for some PTSD before all the Alcohol & Drugs took over. So figuratively- Manson killed Dennis Wilson too. IMO. Pushed it on him, kept him drawn in - so to speak. There’s no way Dennis could’ve lived w the idea of Manson still alive in jail until just a few years ago. Bless Dennis Wilson RIP I

A minor detail you left out...Dennis had sex with two hitchhikers he picked up, one of whom was Patricia Krenwinkel who was involved in both the Tate/LaBianca murders. That had to way heavy on him knowing what was to come. After a night of fun, Dennis left to go to the studio and told the girls they could hang out. That's when they invited more family members over including Manson. Ironically, Manson met Charles "Tex" Watson through Dennis. He was sorta a drug dealer who later went to the ranch to live with the Manson family.

Mike love said on the Dan Patrick show, that Dennis first picked them up and took them back to his house, and befriended the two girls, and they hung out. It was some time latter, after The Beach Boys had been on tour for a week or two, that Dennis returned to find the Manson clan and Charlie had taken it upon themselves to crash at his pad. Mike love said Dennis had a disposition to be liked by everyone so naturally he let them stay. Mike said that Dennis got sucked in and regrettably had been out at the Spahn ranch one day and saw Charlie take a M-16 and unload a full magazine on some poor guy he referred to has a ‘black cat’ and literally cut him in half, and Charlie stuffed his body down a well.

Charlie admits in interviews that he knew Terry did not live there. Per Helter Skelter book by prosecuter Bugliosi, Charlie had gone to house to find Terry, learned he did not live there anymore and was told by Tate's photographer to take the alley to the guest house to see the owner of the house (who was in music/acting business), and that Tate came up to the door during that conversation. Reportedly, when Tate and the house owner were on a plane a few days later, she asked the owner if he had seen that weird little man ... . The prosecutor speculated that Charlie was PO'd with how he was treated by the photographer and apparently know Tate lived there.

Uh you left out the most important piece of the puzzle. Dennis introduced Tex Watson (the most brutal and real killer of the bunch) to Charlie after he picked Dennis up hitch-hiking. The relationship between Charlie and Tex is why the murders were so brutal and frequent. Charlie by himself was all talk and most likely never murdered anybody on his own. The guilt of introducing Charlie to Tex is what killed Dennis albeit slowly over time.

1) Never put much faith in "I heard about it, but I wasn't there." 2)The Cielo Dr. murders were more a retaliation than an intimidation tactic. In the wake of the disastrous Spahn Ranch recording session of June 6, when Melcher tactfully turned Manson down: "You're good but I wouldn't know what to do with you" -Manson knew his dream of becoming a rock star bigger than the Beatles was essentially over. Those murders were retaliation, against the establishment (of which that tony house was a symbol) for denying him his proper musical career.

1) Yeah, I wasn't exactly sure about the validity of the story itself, but I wanted to include it as more of a character assessment on Dennis's part, being he was so misrepresented in the TV series. Dennis was no pushover. 2) Now this is a very interesting point to consider. I may follow up on this if I can compile more info, possibly into a multi-theory video.

@@RulingNoteMusic Now that's a rational and reasonable reply, a relative rarity in the YT comments section. As for the motive for TLB, "multi-theory" is an apt description. I have written in this section before that all the evidence and trial testimony tells us that with Manson, there were three interwoven motivations. 1) Helter Skelter, the imminent race war/apocalypse which Manson preached "constantly." 2) His retaliation against the establishment for denying him a musical career 3) The staging of copy-cat murders to free family associate, Bobby Beausoleil from prison. Though each of these three motives are provable, using them all could possibly muddle the case and confuse the jury. Prosecutor Vince Bugliosi sensibly went with the one he felt had the best chance for conviction, which was HS.

@cmm2145
@cmm2145 2 жыл бұрын
The Manson Family girls did come up with a plan to get Bobby Beausoleil out of jail. He was in jail charged with the murder of Gary Hinman which he actually did do. When Gary was killed one of the girls wrote “Political piggy” on the wall in Gary’s blood. The intent of the killer and the accomplices was to make the Hinman murder look like it was done by Black people, even the Black Panthers. This is basically what you said with more details. You’re right. The copycat motive was one of the motives. The girls came up with a plan to get Bobby out of jail. The girls decided that if they did copycat crimes in a few other locations and left some message on a wall or a door or a refrigerator written in the blood of one of the victims that the police would think that those murders were all done by the same people because writing on the wall in blood is not something that is normally found at a murder scene. The girls thought that as soon as the police investigated the crime scene at the Tate house and at the LaBianca house that the police would connect the three murders because of the bloody writing on the wall and then they’d think that Bobby wasn’t the one who killed Gary Hinman. because there was no way for Bobby to have committed the copycat crimes because he was in jail at the time. It didn’t work. In fact I don’t know who the police officers and detectives and whoever else was working on the case was thinking because it took them a while to even connect the murders at the Tate house with the ones at the LaBianca house even though there was writing in blood on the wall at both crime scenes. Motives: 1. Drugs / money. Gary Hinman made some mescaline that was no good. Bobby sold some to the Straight Satans biker group. It was bad. The bikers wanted their money back. They threatened to kill people if they didn’t get the money. The money had been spent. Bobby tortured Gary for 2-3 days and then killed him. Apparently Gary didn’t have the money either. 2. Drugs / money. Tex was dealing drugs. He owed money to another drug dealer and the other dealer was threatening to come to Spahn Ranch and do bad stuff to them. So Tex owed either money or drugs to this other dealer and Tex didn’t have it. He had to come up with money or drugs fast. I know that Jay Sebring, Voytek Frikowski and probably Abigail Folger too were dealing drugs out of Sharon’s house. Tex had been to parties at that house earlier in the summer before he met Charlie. I believe that Tex was involved in drug deals at Sharon’s house too. I believe that the night they went to the Tate house Tex was expecting to be able to get enough money or drugs to pay back the drug dealer and the bikers. But all they got was $70 from Abigail’s purse which wasn’t nearly enough. 3. Helter Skelter (Charlie didn’t believe in it. He was using it to put fear into his followers so that they’d stay with him and do as he said because they’d believe that he was the only one who could keep them safe. 4. Copycat crimes to try to get Bobby out of jail. (Discussed above.) 5. Money. Charlie needed money fast. Tex still owed the one drug dealer and Bobby still owed the bikers. This is not all part of the “official” story but some is. I believe there were two motives behind the murders of the LaBiancas in addition to the motives that I listed above. Charlie and the family had lived for a while in an RV that was parked in Harold True’s driveway. They were all partying and in and out of the house and in and out of the RV and making a lot of noise. The LaBiancas lived next-door to Harold True. Charlie thought that the LaBiancas were the ones who called in the noise complaint to the police. That’s one reason why they might have been targeted. The other reason was because Charlie and them still owed money to some bad people. I don’t know if Charlie and the Family knew that Mr. La Bianca owned a small chain of grocery stores or not but they could tell from looking at the house and looking at the other houses in the neighborhood that the LaBiancas must’ve been fairly well off to be living where they were living. There’s two possibilities here. One is maybe a bit far-fetched but it could’ve happened. This version has Charlie and Tex going into the house and tying up Mr. LaBianca but not Mrs. This theory goes that after he tied up Mr., Charlie forced Mrs. into the car and they drove to one of their grocery stores and made her get money out of the store’s safe to give to Charlie. It was probably a few thousand dollars or however much Charlie needed in order to pay the drug dealer and the bikers. Then after she gave him the money they drove her back to her house and when she got back is when the killings started. Like I said I don’t have solid proof that this is how it went but Charlie had to have come up with the money somewhere because neither the drug dealer nor the bikers followed through on any of their threats. If that isn’t how it happened, then my belief is that there was enough cash in their house for Charlie to pay off the drug dealer and the bikers. I do believe that Charlie got the money he needed from the LaBiancas because if he hadn’t then the drug dealer and the bikers would’ve followed through on their threats and they didn’t. NOTE: The murders had absolutely NOTHING to do with record producer Terry Melcher. Charlie played his music for Melcher, but Melcher turned Charlie down. This was when Melcher was living at 10050 Cielo Dr before Sharon and Roman lived there. Charlie had gone back over to the house earlier in the summer because he wanted to talk to Melcher. He was told that Melcher didn’t live there anymore. Charlie knew Sharon lived there. He knew where Melcher lived. If Charlie had wanted to do anything to Melcher Charlie knew where to go or where to send his followers. Charlie and Melcher were seen talking peacefully 2 different times by 2 different people and both times were after the murders. If Charlie had it out for Melcher, Melcher would’ve been killed. But Melcher wasn’t killed because Charlie didn’t want to have Melcher killed. Period.

That was part of it, as well as trying to incite the race wars Charlie spoke about, which had thought had been prophecized in the Bible and the Beatles' "Helter Skelter." Beneath it all was Manson's rage at his rejection by his parents and those who were the Establishment, the successful people in society that he felt had snubbed and cheated him. "

The stories all reek of “ Spinning “ so who knows . Tex Watson - the one who actually killed all 7 victims - it was told , actually picked up Beach boy Dennis Wilson - who was hitch hiking . Dennis brought him into his house and that’s where Tex met Manson . Tex eventually moved in to Dennis’s house . Tex was a regular to Denis’s Friend- record producer Terry Melchers house on Ceilio . They all partied together and the Hollywood people enjoyed all the free sex and drugs Charlie and Tex supplied. Yes Terry strung Manson on by waving the proverbial carrot of a music career over his head . There are no coincidences . Manson and Tex wanted to send a message when they committed those murders . I also believe to ey knew who was in the house .

Terry had been given a notebook of lyrics by Manson at some point that ended up on Beach Boys Pet Sounds. Not a couple lines here and there but the whole fucking album. So they gave Manson a little money here and there until they didn't right. This is when in Charles's mind two people had to pay but one had to pay first. After all, it's only worth millions right? what would you do if some rich pricks just stole your shit? Where the Manson family messed up is they were on acid and extremely sloppy.

Wow if you're gonna correct disinformation you need to do your homework. Also stating what someone else felt without documentation of the person stating it is almost as lousy as the sloppy details and speculation. You don't even follow your own line of reason. Wilson probably was more concerned with the bands image than whatever the family was able to do to him. The stuff about him kicking Charlie's ass is true Melcher and others were present. They laughed at Charlie He hated that more than anything. He was showing them what he could do when he and Tex chose to slaughter folks on Cielo drive. There's much more to it but the cherry on top was scaring the hecklers. Melcher had used Manson's girls for sex but didn't come through with the deal. The truth is Melcher was a spoiled brat He was also a snob. Dennis was always generous and accepting until Charlie threatens his kida. Baby the time the two fought Dennis had split the big house on sunset. He still hung out with the family and came all the way to Death Valley to tell Charlie his song was a on the B side of that bluebird Diddy. He went on tour and had his friend Greg move what was left of his stuff. Wilson was angry that Charlie was so entitled but he let the landlord evict the gang. He stood his ground. When confronted. It's unlikely they wanted Wilson to testify in kangaroo court anyway. Nlike I said he was relieved because the horror of all that went down would tarnish the bands image. Ironically, the outdated beach boys may have gotten a boost for being edgy enough to run with the lines of Manson. He's more famous than they are now.

I have been interested in Charlie stuff for 30 years. Never once did I hear that the Tate murders happened because Charlie wanted his followers to kill Brian Wilson and Brian lived next door to Sharon and since Brian wasn’t home, they killed the people at Sharon’s house. Whoever came up with that must’ve been deeply recreationally involved with some substances. Charlie didn’t get into a fight with a stunt man. Charlie, Tex, Bruce Davis, and Steve Grogan all participated in killing the stunt man. Bit of a difference there. Some say Melcher didn’t see any value in Charlie’s music. Melcher didn’t like it and didn’t think it would sell. It was too amateurish. Some say Melcher did like some of Manson’s music. There were 2 big problems aside from the fact that Melcher didn’t think Charlie’s music would sell. First Charlie wanted his music recorded exactly the way it was. He wouldn’t accept any criticism, constructive or not. He was adamant about not changing a thing. The music experts could not have a successful working relationship with someone who refused to accept their suggestions. Second in order to be allowed to record in a recording studio you had to be a member of a musicians union. Melcher asked Charlie if he was a member of a musicians union. Charlie said no. Melcher told Charlie that he had to be a member of a musicians union in order to get a recording contract and asked Charlie if he intended to become a member of a musicians union. Charlie said no. Charlie was able to record for Melcher because Melcher had a portable recording studio in a cargo van and Melcher brought it to Spahn Ranch and recorded there. Charlie also recorded at Brian Wilson’s house because Brian had a recording studio at his house. But Charlie couldn’t record at a professional recording studio because he wasn’t a member of a musicians union. So, yeah, Melcher turned Charlie down for a recording contract. But Charlie’s own decisions factored heavily against him getting a recording contract with Melcher or anyone else. In March 1969 Charlie went to the house where Melcher used to live because he wanted to talk to him. He found out that Melcher didn’t live there anymore and he found out where Melcher had moved to. I don’t believe that Charlie was trying to scare Melcher or Dennis with any murders. There were several motives for those murders. Scaring Melcher and Dennis wasn’t one of them. I think the 2 big reasons were drugs and money. Tex Watson and Linda Kasabian were drug dealers before joining The Family. Both Wojciech Frykowski and Jay Sebring were drug dealers who sold drugs out of that house and were known for cheating people on drug deals. Tex or Linda or both got cheated on one or more drug deals by Frykowski or Sebring or both and Tex and Linda wanted revenge plus Charlie needed money for various things and so stealing whatever money they could find was also part of it. Most of your video was fairly accurate. Of course, there’s a whole lot more to it, but putting everything in would make it so long that a lot of people wouldn’t want to watch it. Three and a half minutes is a good length and hits the highlights.

@@RulingNoteMusic - I didn’t know that you didn’t know some of what I said. I’m sorry about being snippy in my comment. That wasn’t my intent. I’m aware that none of us know what we don’t know until we learn it and that some sources don’t have accurate information. Based on your response, I’ll tell you some more pertinent details. Over 30 years time of off and on doing very unofficial Charlie research, I could probably write a book or more, but I have no interest in doing so. Some things that I know I know are true with a high amount of certainty. I have no idea if some of the things I know are accurate or not and I’m not interested in doing research. This is an interest. I don’t want it to turn into work. The stunt man’s name was Donald “Shorty” Shea. He was from Massachusetts I think. Somewhere on the east coast. He had a “cowboy” look about him so he tried to see if he could make it in Hollywood. It wasn’t easy for him. He ended up at Spahn Ranch. Old Man Spahn hired him to help take care of the horses and allowed him to live on the property. He did get some movie work and left the ranch for however long it took to complete that and came back to the Ranch. He and Spahn had a deal that he could leave for movie work whenever he got some and when it was over he could come back and live at the Ranch and help take care of the horses. He and Spahn became friends. There are slightly different versions of what happened when things fell apart. 1. Someone who was concerned about Mr. Spahn’s well-being was concerned that Charlie and The Family were conducting illegal activities on Mr. Spahn’s Ranch (they were) and they paid Shorty to spy on Charlie and the others and report illegal or suspicious activities or behavior to police. And Shorty did. 2. Shorty himself became concerned about Mr. Spahn’s well-being because of the illegal activities of Charlie and The Family. Shorty wanted Mr. Spahn to kick them off the property. Mr. Spahn didn’t want to kick them off because from the beginning Charlie had told the girls that one of their jobs was to “take care of” Mr. Spahn. They cooked and cleaned and took care of his “needs” in the bedroom. I believe that Lynnette Fromme was the one who was primarily assigned this duty, but she wasn’t the only one. Mr. Spahn didn’t want to kick them off the property because his playtime with the girls would stop and he didn’t want it to stop. Apparently Shorty took matters into his own hands and reported the illegal activity to the police on his own. Police came out and did a raid. Charlie knew or suspected that Shorty had been the one who called police. Whether it was scenario 1 or scenario 2, Shorty had reported the illegal activities of Charlie and The Family to the police. That’s being a snitch. As of Charlie’s release from prison in March 1967, Charlie had spent a bit more than half of his life in reform schools, jails, and prisons. Charlie knew the rules of prison. He didn’t really know the rules on the outside. In prison you snitch, you get harsh consequences from the other prisoners. Not only was Shorty a snitch, his ex-wife was African-American and his daughter was mixed race and Charlie was very much a racist. Shorty was very upset about Charlie’s speaking his racist views out in the open. Two different scenarios here too. 1. Steve “Clem” Grogan, Bruce Davis, Charles “Tex” Watson, and Charlie told Charlie that they were going to the auto parts store and they needed his help. The car didn’t get far, pulled off the road, Clem hit Shorty in the back of the head with a pipe wrench. He was unconscious. They they he was dead and dragged him down a ravine. It was determined overnight that he was not dead so the same 4 men came back the next day and stabbed him to death. 2. Susan Atkins lured Shorty to the ravine and the murder happened soon after. Same 4 men. There’s a lot more. My playtime in the Charlie rabbit hole is over for now. I suggest that you don’t believe Vincent Bugliosi’s book Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders. That subtitle is a lie and it’s right at home with a whole bunch of other lies and untruths that are between the covers of that book. Honestly that’s the only book I’ve read so you can’t go by me, but KZfaq channel The Backporch Tapes by Michael Channels is said to be good as well as KZfaq channel and book Goodbye Helter Skelter by George Stimson, KZfaq channel Spahn ranch worker by Stoner Van Houten (screen name), KZfaq channel and book(s)? CHAOS, etc by Tom O’Neill plus his interviews on Joe Rogan’s podcast on KZfaq. You’re going to find contradictions so you don’t want to engrave anything in stone until you’ve been around the block several times. And consider your sources.

I’m pretty sure almost all of this is common knowledge to anyone that knows anything about Manson. It’s ironic though that Manson outlived everyone involved with this case.🧐 I speculate on certain things for instance if the Beach boys have never used that song would the murders have still happened? Also the boy that was murdered his name was Steven Parent. It’s a little disrespectful to at least not mention his name -having said that I wonder if he had left the back house residence five minutes later as the murders are happening he could’ve went to William Garrison and there would’ve been two males that could’ve at least helped combat the bloodshed….. or would there just be two more victims?

You have to go back farther into Manson's life to realize what made him and how he was guided

Seems like this is true of Dennis Wilson too. Charlie did t ruin his life. He sucked things up a lot but Murray Wilson is the more culpable His bandages weren't much help either. Of course the drummers most dangerous enemy was himself.
