Thank you for the video, Andrew! 👍 Well, I must admit I never had enough patience to sit through all the January 1969 session tapes, but I managed to explore the first day recordings in their entirety. It’s interesting how the session comes to life as soon as Paul appears in the studio and everybody's on fire right away. And I really think "Two Of Us" was written about Paul and John. "You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead" - what a deep meaning lies beneath these words! Seems like Paul understands by "now" (1969), how grandious is the way they both have walked up to that point in their life. And it’s time to sit and look back with love and admiration at what they have achieved. Seems like it was really the first time The Beatles took a pause from constantly going forward and let themselves observe their recent past years.

I always caught the impression that macca "carried all on his shoulders". In times of trouble ( lol) let it be, get back and the long and winding road. Evergreens, Only a maestro. Of course it's a matter of opinion, everyone 's right and nobody is wrong, i ♥️ phil spector's version of the long and winding road.

Good work Andrew. It's bizarre but I've never till now noticed (at least consciously) that Let It Be doesn't have a Ringo lead vocal. I agree he turns in a great drumming performance on the album though. Looking forward to further instalments, I love this period of the Beatles.

Excellent appraisal Andrew. Never thought of the Lennon contributions in such an analytical way. Two of Us, I've Got a Feeling, I Me Mine and Get Back are probably favourite tracks, but Dig A Pony is the one I probably play along with most - it's a great riff! Look forward to your next videos on the subject.

Hi Andrew! What a terrific review. The approach to it, by looking at each of the individual Beatles contributions was really informative and enjoyable. Also, I know that I’m not with the crowd on this... but I really think The Long and Winding Road is great. I think the production made the song a classic. I’ll need to give a listen to the Let It Be Naked version. Thanks for the video 😀. Best regards, Brian.

It's amazing that from February 7th 1964, (their NYC arrival), to October of 1969... 5 short years and 8 months, that The Beatles were able to create a body of work containing the most creative and innovative music- MIRACULOUS! Buddy Holly and The Crickets inspired their instrument choices, two guitars, bass and drums. The 50's rock and roll era was top heavy with piano, ( Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Fats Domino- Elvis too)! The Beatles put their own spin on Rockabilly, which was lost on the young teens. One of my favorite Beatles songs is Ringo's version of Honey Don't! The Beatles singles in 65 and 66 ushered in a second floodgate of radio hits! Songs more for listening than dancing.(We Can Work it Out, Day Tripper, Ticket to Ride, Help, Nowhere Man, Yesterday, Michelle and Lady Madonna)! How the hell did they go from Rubber Soul to Revolver? Now, Revolver to Sgt. Pepper makes perfect sense. Sgt. Pepper to the White Album... WHAT?!? The White Album to Let it Be? W T F !! Or The White Album... PERIOD!! Let it Be has been relentlessly scrutinized, by fans and critics for decades. The Long and Winding Road sounds more McCartney than Beatles. It's pure Phil Spector syrup and fluff. So sweet, it hurt my teeth! It's also a little weird and off putting to hear background singers on Across the Universe and Winding Road! But don't cheat yourself out of experiencing the silver lining in Let it Be. No overdubbed voices. You won't hear McCartney harmonizing with himself. It's just John, George and Paul doing their thing...playing like a goddamn "band"! Although Let it Be obviously doesn't break new ground, it was an essential record that motivated them to step up to the plate one more time and deliver their "true" swan song, ABBEY ROAD! Thank heaven for George Martin's return!

And All Things Must Pass!!.WOW..the best John song at the time was a bside..Don't Let Me Down..can't wait for the film...Box ...T shirt..mouse pad..etc. etc..and Paul being Paul..said Two of Us was Linda and him!!...it is about him and John. Clearly!!...all that stuff was happening...another great video...cheers!!

You make some great points about the Let It Be album. While not my favorite, I wonder it's potential to be a great Beatle production had John been fully engaged. You get the sense that McCartney, alone, was dragging the band through the sessions and you could argue that he needed John's invaluable input like so many other times. In the past, McCartney has certainly produced his fair share of brilliant work unassisted but many times it had been Lennon's out-of-the-box input that made a great song a song for the ages. Ticket To Ride comes to mind. It's interesting also, that had All Things Must Pass made the album, would that have been the title? It has the same connotation as Let It Be but more definitive in terms of truly being the Beatles last released album. However, I would NOT have trusted Spector on that song. No way! It definitely would have needed Martin to bring it up to an Abbey Road/Pepper standard. But, all that said, Let It Be is the album we were supposed to get. Its enigma and idiosyncracy are part of its allure.

Hello, Andrew. Great videos, useful insights. I have two questions. Have you something anywhere about the original packaging of the album? In the Netherlands it was released in a thin carton box along with a great book of photos and text. Soon that packaging was abandoned, the boxes scrapped and the book sold off cheaply separately. Managed to get a copy of that. Not of the box alas, must be rare. Do you know anything about what and why? Second unrelated question: why was there never a 50th anniversary edition of Revolver, a candidate best Beatles album?

Hi Hans, not sure on the Let it Be boxes, but just sounds like they did what they needed to do to get stock sold. The Revolver is an interesting one and I think a long answer, I'll try and cover it on my live stream tomorrow night!

Ever notice how often lyrics from Beatles& 'solo worx' come up when ur writing or simply talking ? On my top channels, it tickles me,a bit. As u& so many of us feel; it's gonna b very interesting to see what they do with the album,& what Mr.Jackson does with new film. I guess there must have been elements of it that he was ok with, as a pure guess, maybe it was too over the top with the choir? And also just that it was something so dramatic done with no consultation or approval from him at all.

Hi Andrew, I always liked the album, but imagine All Things Must Pass and Don't Let Me Down on the album instead of Dig A Pony and I Me Mine or One After 909. It would nearly be as good as Abbey Road. I prefer this album above Let It Be .... Naked.

Pe Ke - They could have included both "All Things Must Pass" and "Don't Let Me Down" on the album without dropping any of those three songs you mention. The album is relatively short - and more tracks could have been included without any problems. The only reason "Don't Let Me Down" was left off - is because it had been included in the "Hey Jude" album which had been released just two months before the "Let It Be" album.

I always thought Get Back was live, well did Phil have us all fooled! It that case they should have put Don't Let Me Down on the album since there is a live version from the roof top sessions. I see why Paul had it on LIB Naked. I think maybe they should have took a break after the White album and maybe waited a little later in the year before making LIB.

The original "Let It Be" was one of my least favorite Beatles albums. I preferred the bootlegs that had been appearing months and months prior to the official release. I also wasn't that keen on all the remixing that had been done on previous 50th anniversary productions, especially The White Album and "Abbey Road". However, for this new version of "Let It Be", the production has approached the recording with a more appropriate context, that of making it not sounding clean and spruced up. It reminds me of the old boots; presenting The Beatles "getting down", giving the tracks a sort-of low-fi quality. Five thumbs up for this one!

I would have replaced Across the Universe with Don't Let Me Down. There's a nice version of it combined with Save the Last Dance For Me. There are some interesting versions Across the Universe that were rockin' versions. The same can be said for Two of Us. Never cared for The Long and Winding Road...too bloated. The version in the film and on Naked are better. John did have some early versions of Mind Games, and Gimme Some Truth, so he wasn't totally dried up. McCartney was coming up with half the lyrics to Gimme Some Truth. So much so, he should have gotten a songwriting credit on the released version, which would have been interesting on album that included How Do You Sleep. To be fair to John, he wrote half the lyrics to Get Back. I was listening to one of those massive Get Back sessions boots the other day (seems I have the time for such things), and the way they approached this song was unique. They would bash out the song, spit out any lyric that came into their head, listen to the playback, and pick and choose the lyrics they liked: "I like the bit about Tucson, Arizona", for instance. I apologize for being so wordy but like I said before, " I have the time." Looking forward to the sessions video.✌😷🧤

Hi Andrew, I know you're not much of a bootleg person but I think to give this album a contextual appraisal you need to get the Glyn Johns Final Compilation of "Get Back". I have many feelings on the whole project and I agree with people who think that Spector did a bad job. It was just for the money, I believe he rattled this off in a couple of weeks.... The main thing though..................WHY DID SPECTOR CHOP OUT "DON'T LET ME DOWN" !!!

Shame about the swan song of the BEST band ever existed. Unique in WHAT?

I guess we all listen in different ways. As songs, they all seem to show the direction the group wanted to take at the time - which sounds like a more 'blues' way in keeping with the late '60's. The rooftop performance shows they could easily compete with the new generation groups of the era. Surely LIB is classic late Beatles!
