Paul McCartney called famed war photographer Don McCullin in the early summer of 1968 and requested him to take a day to photograph The Beatles. The band wanted to take a break from the recording studio and needed new promotional images. The chosen day was Sunday, July 28, 1968. Along with Yoko Ono, McCartney's girlfriend Francie Schwartz, and Mal Evans' six-year-old son Gary Evans, there were six photographers present, including Ronald Fitzgibbon, Stephen Goldblatt, Tom Murray, Tony Bramwell, and Mal Evans. The Beatles and McCullin were also present. Therefore, we'll discuss Tom Murray's background and how he came to photograph The Beatles in today's video.
