@Big Blue Nose 1690 Eric did play lead guitar on the song. However, Eric felt that his playing wasn't as "Beatle-y" as it could have been. During the final recordings of The White Album, recording engineer Chris Thomas played the song through a varispeed tape player, which allowed Chris to "play" an oscillator on the player which gave the guitar parts a more wobbly type sound.

By 1968 George Harrison was heavily involved in Eastern philosophies. One of those is I Ching. One of its tenets is spontaneous inspiration. With this in mind, George opened a random book to a random page. The first thing he read was 'Gently weeps". He then sat down and wrote this masterpiece. Best wishes JAYY, RNB

That was Eric Clapton playing lead guitar. This was the first time they actually named a guest artist on of their songs. Now you know why they were saying "Clapton Is God" back in the 1960s. Also, this is when George really started to come into his own as a supreme songwriter on the par with Lennon and McCartney. And his voice also started to really blossom at this time as well.

@@janes.1559 I agree with you 100% on this. Most people seem to love Prince's 'tribute' but to my mind (and ears) it's just egotistical bombast. A great talent no doubt BUT the song is called 'While My Guitar GENTLY WEEPS' and any fitting tribute should have those words expressed in its interpretation...I'd imagine that George's great sense of humour would have provoked an ironic chuckle rather than a genuine nod of approval up there in the heavens.

GENIUS! Yes indeed, Jayy. You had the right word for it. Absolute genius. Great reaction. As many people have said, George got his buddy Eric Clapton toplay on this song. Clapton was a bit reluctant at first but George convinced him to add his unique style to this classic track. The guitar that Eric Clapton played on this song was a Gibson Les Paul that Eric had discovered in a New York music shop and bought to give it to George Harrison as a present. The guitar started life as a 1957 Gibson "Gold Top" and had previously been owned by John Sebastian of the band "The Lovin' Spoonful" and then by Rick Derringer. When Derringer owned it he had the top refinished by the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan changing the colour to a cherry red. When George got the guitar from Eric he named it "Lucy". It is one of the most famous guitars in the world. George owned it until his death but I don't know where it is now.

George Harrison was the composer of this song. He started to write songs a bit later than John and Paul, who were the main songwriters in the early years. George felt that the other two weren’t taking enough interest in his songs so he invited his friend Eric Clapton to play lead guitar and to solo on the song. John and Paul took notice and brought their A-game. The result is a masterpiece. George was the youngest Beatle and Eric Clapton was even younger. Eric was just 23 years old when he recorded his guitar part! Loved your reaction btw. I like that your are always open-minded and are not afraid of showing your emotions.👏👍🥰

That weeping guitar is the great Eric Clapton utilizing the whammy bar (tremolo arm) of the Gibson Les Paul guitar. You might have watched Prince do the solo from the 2005 rock hall of fame induction when Tom Petty sang lead, but you MUST do a reaction to the 2002 Concert For George tribute to George Harrison a year after his death. Eric sings lead vocals and does his fantastic solo with McCartney on piano and harmonies, just like the record from 34 years earlier.

George started writing songs later than John and Paul, so it took him a while to get to their level, but pretty soon George did write some amazing songs. This was one of them. George was the lead guitarist in The Beatles, but he asked his pal Eric Clapton if he could play the lead on this song. I'm sure George could have done a great job himself, but he is the type of person that doesn't have to take all the glory. Shows you what a wonderful person George Harrison was. And yes, good call on listening to this, the original version. There is a slower acoustic version, which is also beautiful, but you did need to listen to the original released version first. Great call.

Historical context is everything when listening to the Beatles; you have to remember this particular song is from 1968, it was so sophisticated and light years ahead 99% of all other popular music at that time.

Hello Yayy, the lead guitar (the weeping) was played by Eric Clapton. Years later Clapton did the song too, and with that version George Harisson did the slide guitar. And yes, it was a George Harrisson song 👍

George was working on this song but John and Paul were also working on their songs. George thought that he needed more help and brought in his friend, Eric Clapton. When Eric showed up, everyone pretty much dropped what they were doing and pitched in. Paul and John helped with the lyrics. Paul created the now iconic piano intro and plays a masterful bass line. John sings backup with Paul and plays rhythm guitar. Eric is the guitar god on lead guitar. His nickname is "Slow Hand". Ringo, of course, "is the click track" as he famously told Jeff Lynne once. Ringo is the most underrated drummer in rock. He is rock steady and so innovative in creating iconic drum patterns. Still going at over 80 years old.

2nd voice is Paul McCartney doing harmony (and playing the bass). Eric Clapton is the guest guitarist.

I believe this song was a reflection of the fighting going on constantly between Paul and John his guitar would weep. All things must pass movie was amazing - check it! George is my favorite Beatle.
