I love the experience of solo traveling, what it offers me and how much I get to learn, but I often miss the experience of meeting other travellers. I was planning an episode of Arctic Grayling fishing, but the evening before hitting the water I saw an old school camper van pull into the campground. This late in the season, it is not common to see other traveler in such a remote spot, and on top of that, they were foreign. I was delighted to see them traveling remote, and even more delighted to see them just out right away and start fishing in the river.
Naturally, I offered them to come for a day of fishing on the river if they could wait until morning, and they happily accepted. Adam and Bianca are both from Australia, and are enjoying two years of traveling and working around Canada. Canada is becoming more popular as a travel destination, but meeting folks that far away from the closest town is very uncommon, so I knew right away they were folks I wanted to meet.
We headed out for our day on the water, and it didn't take long to start getting into fish. They were both in pursuit of their first Arctic Grayling, one of several bucket list fish for their time here, and it didn't take them long. In fact, by the time we left our first stop, we had all gotten into a couple. I can imagine their excitement, but for me it was priceless just to watch them fish and catch. I wish I could offer such an experience to every traveler, but I will always remember this trip.
We spent the day fishing and the evening sharing stories, but the following day it was time for us all to continue our travels. For me, that meant the final stretch to Yukon, where I can finally place a DA sticker along side all the others I have admired each year.

I had to stop the video half way through after you thanked us for viewing your videos. I don't think you understand how much we appreciate your artistic and loving view of bc and beyond. You Dustin bring the world to us each week in such a personal way that just goes beyond a simple video of a destination. You bring the stories, the life and the joy of the people who live in these places. And it's the stories, and landscapes and your passion for it all that gives us the viewers joy and frankly something to look forward to watching. We most of us will never get to go and do many things you do, this medium of yours blesses so many of us with the opportunity to go with you and experience these off the beaten path places right along with you! So thank you for blessing us with your enthusiasm and joy as you explore and film your experiences! Now I want to finish this video! Blessings!

Cheers and thanks for representing! Adam and Bianca, thank you for reminding us, through fresh eyes, of the gems surrounding us, and within us. I was at junction 37 fuel station in late 1984 with my father on a hunting and fishing trip. I was 9 or 10 years of age at the time. I have pics of the place. We stayed there for 5 days as we hunted and fished at Killington Lake before moving on to Ross River for camping and fishing, then to Little Salman and then Carmacks. It was the best time of my life, and I'll never forget seeing my first salmon and first black bear.

This video reminds me of how much we did not see when we lived up there and then to hear Adam & Bianca are from western Australia was neat, we used to live in Fremantle. All of the beautiful scenery you captured perfectly. Bianca captured me when she was talking about visiting places with lots of people and how being out with nature is healing and relaxing. Dustin, you are welcome! 😂 Seriously, I was crying with joy through half of this video. What a beautiful story in the best place on Earth. I totally relate to Adam & Bianca’s experience. I first learned about Canada when my aunt brought some travel brochures she picked up somewhere… I was about 12 and behind the Iron Curtain. The idea that I would one day live the dream was just so absurd… but if you keep the dream alive and you work on it, one day it will come true. Hi from Monroe Georgia! It's always a special day to watch your videos! They are SOOOO thoughtful and always with great care, especially with native peoples lands and their cultural events. My health prevents me from getting out and seeing the beauty of N. America, but through your videos I get to see more than I ever thought possible and for that I am ever so thankful. Dustin, I hope and pray that you're always safe and happy in the adventures you take on. My parents had a resort in Sicamous and Dad just happened to have a houseboat that could sleep 10 people. He would do the same thing. In the middle of the summer, he would load up the boat with patrons from the resort, many who never experienced fishing before and take off on a three day trip up the Shuswap. Upon their return, those patrons were sure to make a booking for next year before they left for home. There was always a full boat. How is it that we in BC just love to show off our province?? Keep'em comin' Dustin

The reason there are so many old and often abandoned lodges/campgrounds/gas stations on the Alaska high is that many of them date from the 50s and even the late ‘40s. Back then, the highway was narrow and rough enough and vehicles slow, that you needed gas stations and lodging/food every couple hundred miles. That was even the gas into the ‘80s and ‘90s. Many travellers will remember how long it used to take to go from Ft Nelson to Watson lake. That used to be 12-14 hours even in the ‘90s. You can do that now a lot quicker than that and not even need to get gas. Same with Watson lake to Whitehorse. That used to be an 8 hour drive or more with mandatory gas stops, now it’s 3 1/2 to 4 hours and no gas stops needed. A lot of dreams and failed dreams represented in those old lodges. The last of the old hold outs closed recently, Rancheria. It was cool for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the micro hydro system they built just up the highway. You can see the turbine and generator building at the base of a canyon a few kms west. All gone.

My bucket list just got a little bit longer! I have been on a Princess Cruise, did the inside passage to AK, it was an amazing experience. Not something I would do again because I enjoy driving too much but glad I had the experience for sure. Love your work Dustin, your humour and humility are both refreshing. Respect from Northern BC

Actually Dustin, I think I find your channel the most interesting and enjoyable channel on the Tube. I have travelled and worked in most of British Columbia and the Yukon also, and still find you showing me places i did not know about. Well done. Cheers

I know I say it every video, but thank you, Dustin. Your videos are definitely a joy for me. We recently moved from Proctor, MN to Maple Grove, MN. To much city, but a necessary move. So, watching your videos and the beauty of the land and nature is food for my heart. Loved the interaction with the Australian explorers. Another great video. God's blessings and safe travels from Maple Grove, MN

I agree. This channel is the pinnacle of your career (thus far). The cinematography and stories you tell with it just blow my mind sometimes. They say the camera can never capture the real beauty of a place, but you sir come the closest I've ever seen.

I'm pretty sure I saw that campervan in Watson Lake on one of our trips to town! The junction used to be a great stop off place. There was a really good restaurant there up until a few years ago when it burned down. We used to eat there after a day in Watson before heading back out to the cabin. After the fire, there was a nice little cafe, which closed after a couple of years. Kinda sad nothing seems to last there. Last winter there was a guy living in a mobile home beside the shop there. Haven't noticed him this year though. Winter has arrived here in the north, but we're still waiting for decent snow. The lake is frozen over good and thick, but this is the first year in 20 that we haven't had at least 6 inches of snow by Halloween! Might be a dry winter, just like the dry summer we just had... which will not be good for forest fires next summer. Take care from the Yukon wilderness!-Sue

It must be a buzz for you to share what you see and experience with thousands of unseen people, to share with two in the flesh people from far away has to be orgasmic...a little karma reward for someone who more than deserves it... thanks Dustin for being part of our lives and making them just that more rich.

Hi Dusty! Your videos are the best quality from actual filming to music and total production. You are gifted! We thank you for them! The only thing we noticed that you could use is a good 1,000-2,000 lumen headlamp. The saloon was too dark as are some of the caves you explore. My husband said we should send you one, but we don’t know where to send it.

Dustin, I fell on our channel years ago, you take me to places may never see in my life time. Being your fathers age and if I was your father I would be extremely proud of the man you have grown up to be. There is an old saying, "Its all on the wheel it all come's around." This is a prime example. Cheers, keep the faith. Dean
