In the early 80's, Jordan and UNESCO expelled the people of the B’doul tribe from the ancient city of Petra, and declared it a world heritage site. In this film, director Marie-Claire Thouault invites us to share the intimacy of the B’doul of Petra, a tribe she has known for years. A behind-the-scenes look at what it means to live in what became one of the most visited and sought-after destinations on earth.
Extract from the documentary: “Petra: The hidden side of World heritage”
Direction: Marie-Claire Thouault

*@Rehana Suboor.* It's not necessary to evict people to preserve historical sites. Many cities are classified as World's Heritage by UNESCO, but still no one gets evicted. To name a few, Petrograd/St. Petersburg Russia, the old city of Fez Morocco, Mont-Saint-Michel in France, and so on, Italy has probably the most classified sites yet no one is evicted. Those noble Bedouins are being cheated by their own government.

As usual, a Government can always be counted upon to fail in keeping their promises to people! This is so sad! These people had lived there as long as they can remember & why run them out? All to make a dollar! You can be sure that’s what it boils down to! Thank you, Slice, for bringing this to the light!

We went to Petra for a couple of days. 2 days was nowhere near long enough. The postcard site is pretty large, but the greater site is huge, with many people eking out a living. There are still quite a lot of people living in what most people would think of as ‘ancient Petra’.

The everyday Jordanian working in the city speak English with a British accent, because their current king's mother is British. His half brother prince Hamza is half American because his mother - queen Noor is American. King Hussen had 4 wife's, each from different countries, so Jordan is multi cultures😅

I saw a kid sitting on the roof of the Monistory like on the opening shoot. Similar to this situation, the Egyptian government also relocated the generations of tomb builders out of its village just outside the Valley of the Kings at Luxor. Underground the village is more tombs to be escavated. My guest house owner is one of those who s family was relocated to a newer village and he utilized his new land to build new house as guesthouse for tourists and grow bananas and sugar cane on the land. Its a small village, so maybe it's more manageable. My observation during my visit to Petra on October 3&4 2021 was that Petra is an very organized museum, there's gate, ticket gate check etc. I don't know tribes should be living in an open air museum. The Bedouin still runs all the gift shops, horse, Camel 🐪 ride for tourist. The kids operating the donkey 🐴 ride were aggressive, they fought over who gets the customers. I didn't see tribes living in the caves. The city center is walking distance from the Treasury but very bumpy roads. The tour guide, taxi drivers said cost of living has been up. I did witness a kid sitting on top of the ancients roof like the opening shoot.

They remind me of the American Indian, kicked out. My grandpa was part Creek Indian from Florida. He was the best man I ever meet. He taught me so many things about GODS creation. . I have been mocked because I wear long sleeves long dresses ,pants, head coverings because he taught me that I would sweat and keep cool on the Florida heat. Since a child I have done this while others get sick. My grandpa was wise, I thank GOD for him . Soon to be 68 and I still wear long everything like the Bedouins ,Crystal

Behind the Treasury, there's the mountains/ hills, it's the famous INDIANA Jones' Trials. There are trees, grass etc. There's are also horse barns near the ticketing Gates. I took a horse ride via the Indiana Jones trail and my guide showed me the barn. Tourists only see the front of the Treasury.

It seems there might have been a split in the group as to if they should leave Petra. Looks like the majority wanted to leave for the houses provided by the government and some remained. It's a tough situation I don't think they should have been put in a position to have to make a choice to leave or stay without a home. I understand the government wanted to protect the site but they could have worked with the tribe. I think the government just wanted to make the site available for tourism.

I find these voice-overs so grating that I can't even watch this documentary in its entirety. Moreover, you can't call yourselves "Accessible to anyone" if you do voice-overs over Arabic and French language speakers and only have subtitles in English. That's patently NOT accessible.

Red man leave africa and become caveman in Petra. Red man make babies with humanoids/nephilim, then call himself White man.... Genesis 36:1-3,6,8-9,19-21,40,43 [1]Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom. [2]Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; [3]And Bashemath Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth. [6]And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob. [8]Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom. [9]And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir: [19]These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes. [20]These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah, [21]And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom. [40]And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth, [43]Duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these be the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession: he is Esau the father of the Edomites.
