Norman.. I wish I had found your channel when you first opened it. Not only am I a Beatles fan but have been loving rock since I was young. I was born in 1960 so I feel very lucky to have been be born just at the right time for the British explosion along with the other huge American rock that came in the 60's. I greatly appreciate your channel and love this video about the Beatles Solo albums. Thank you very much for putting out the video. Regards from Ody Slim

Thank you for highlighting many of the lesser known albums - really interesting! I'm going to download 'Wonderwall', because i've always loved eclectic mixtures of genres. Thank you for getting me interested in that. 'Plastic Ono Band' is phenomenal - personal, passionate and unforgiving in its emotion.

Really enjoyed your review. All Things Must Pass is my favorite album of all time and I have (I think) a fairly large music library (over 11,000 tracks) to base that on. So happy to see how appreciation for George Harrison has grown over the years. Man, the Beatles were special and revolutionary, but I doubt ATMP would have ever been recorded had they stayed together.

Thanks for your take on your 13 favorite solo Beatles. I really enjoyed how you talk through each one with passion. I listen to Wonderwall very often. It doesn't really grow old. One thing I think is funny, when you held up the back cover of Ram, the beetles screwing became very prominent. It's hilarious!! I think that should have taken up more of the back cover of Ram. Anyway, thank you!!!!

Very tough to choose. As you said, it's personal. I love Paul McCartney Unplugged which I have on CD, bootleg? Egypt Station Flaming Pie Flowers In The Dirt , which had just come out the year I saw Paul. Snuck behind the stage with my friends unnoticed until he played Can't Buy Me Love. We lost it, Beatlemania. The bouncer tapped us on the shoulders and said follow me ladies!

I really enjoyed this video. I have all of these albums, and all of your choices are very good (and some are better than others). Being born in 1963, I was aware of the Beatles from an early age, but really knew them as active musicians when they were releasing their initial solo albums in the 1970s. I recall getting the new "Ringo" album for my 10th birthday in December 1973, and 8-tracks of "Walls and Bridges" and "Band on the Run" the following Christmas. Those 3 albums in particular will always be big favorites of mine. I remember coveting my older cousin's duo 8-tracks of "All Things Must Pass". I'd probably substitute "Wild Life" and "Electric Arguments" with "Tug of War", "Chaos & Creation in the Backyard.", and/or "Venus & Mars", but I must say that I think quite similar to you per the Lennon & Harrison (and single Ringo) selections. I find it hard to rank things like this in numerical order. Keep up the good work!

Wonderwall is very interesting. It's a film soundtrack George did for a friend who was a filmmaker and it is a departure from his Beatle like material for the most part. Very good listening. I found it on CD in the 90s. It's also the first non-Beatle album by a Beatle, and while still a Beatle. It predates Paul's first solo album.

Love the list Mazzy-some interesting and unexpected picks here for sure, which just makes it all the more fun! I’ve tried getting into Wild Life and it just doesn’t do anything for me. I like some of the tracks just fine but as a whole I just find it somewhat underwhelming. For my list, I’d definitely have Chaos And Creation in the Backyard somewhere on there, I think that might my favorite Paul project just behind RAM. Probably the most unexpected pick that would end up on my list somewhere would be the double album version of Red Rose Speedway that came out in 2018, I find that as a whole to be a really fun listen with a ton of variety and strong songwriting. I’m also a fan of the George Harrison Self-Titled album, I’m not sure if it would’ve cracked my top 10 though.

Back in my hitch hiking days me, a friend and another couple were picked up by German roadies of Wings in Freiburg. Germany Two large vans (not trucks) Crazy fun guys, we slept in one of the empty vans that night. They drove us to the Marseille Airport the next day where they were going to pick up the band (on the run) and the equipement. We stayed a while maybe catch a glimp of Macca, Linda, Denny Laine ... but we decided to catch a train to downtown Marseille. Great times. I was a big Beatles fan had a life size poster of the Fab Four in my room. Should have kept all that stuff. Thanks again. Love your vids. Cheers from Holland.

An interesting selection with some unexpected curveballs. Certainly agree about the top 2 and also about Spector’s production on ATMP which is a towering achievement. I’d have plumped for George Harrison from ‘79 in my selection and I also really like Red Rose Speedway and McCartney 2. I’ve never been a fan of the production on Cloud 9 though which is one of my least favourite Harrison records. Great video 👍

I have to totally agree with you on George Harrison's "Wonderwall". It's a great album and like you, I'm still listening to it today. A lot of people out there will not understand it. But they have to have lived the time when it first came out. No Beatle type songs, but just good music and musicianship! ...By the way....I even liked Harrison's "Electronic Sound" album. Very experimental electronic music that probably no one but a few of us will understand. Very serene and ambient like and I loved it!

Not sure I'd have the stamina to actually rank every single solo album,. Maybe someday...who knows?? I think Macca III would be somewhere in the middle right now. Wow- Great summary! I like your observations and pretty closely track with your rankings. I’d probably swap in Chaos & Creation for Fireman. I also really like Wonderwall, but would probably rate Mind Games ahead of it. I also think of Mind Games & Walls & Bridges as kindred spirits somehow. Wings Wild Life has many great tunes-Tomorrow has always been high on my list of obscure McCartney gems. I can see I Lie Around fitting in well on that LP (though that’s probably a year or so later). I like your appreciation for 33&1/3- I also loved Woman Don’t You Cry For Me, Beautiful Girl, Pure Smoky, it’s what you Value. MaMunia never bothered me-I especially like when the synths come in and kick it to another level around 4:07 or so. And I’ve always liked No Words. I could do without Bluebird & Picasso’s Last Words. But BOTR, Let Me Roll It, Jet, Helen Wheels and 1985 remain my favorites.

Funny I, earlier today, had "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts" on the turntable and thought wouldn't "Wonderwall Music" make for a nice follow? One of my favorite George albums and one I've not spun often enough of late. Possibly my favorite solo Beatles album cover too for whatever that's worth. Was surprised, delightedly so, by its appearance in your ranking. Nor do I disagree on your "Wild Life" take, an album I detested once but quite love now. Shocked though that "Ringo the 4th" didn't top the poll but "ATMP" is swell too I suppose. Seriously though, the "Egg's' omission stung somewhat. Interesting, in the best of ways, video.

FINALLY. Wings - wildlife gets the VC love it deserves, an amazing record in its time and holds up extremely well today. One of my go to Paul solo LPs for years, along with Ram. I think the reason my preferences for the same records you showed is because we grew up and around these great records when they were first released. They became the soundscape to our youth at that time and are deeply imbedded in us. I believe that early US ( maybe others) releases of Ringo had the extended version of six o’clock. All Things Must Pass is such a great record and also my #1 solo LP and always has been. Very interesting. I am a major fan of The Beatles, living in South Africa. I have everything ever released by The Beatles and by all four Beatles as solo artistes, or (in Paul's case, of course) with Wings. I like your top few places in your ranking, particularly the prominence you give to Ram, which I have always regarded as Paul's best album (ahead of even Band on the Run). My favourite three solo Beatle albums are 1) All Things Must Pass, 2) Ram and 3) John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, so my taste in solo Beatle music is very similar to yours. I also regard Living in the Material World as one of the 20 or so best albums of all time, even though many other music fans may regard that choice as being a bit eccentric.

I know we're talking about Post-Beatles.... the fact we're debating these musicians in 2021... when they original library of music came out 51 years ago... just goes to show how hard their music hits with modern audiences. How their 60's library survived the ages is amazing all things considered. They're truly the modern Mozart, Chopin, or Beethoven to name a few.

Just subscribed to your channel… ATMP is my #1 with “Ram” being second. I keep alternating between Lennon’s first 2 REAL solo albums. So i kinda have to cheat and put them together…which is the reason why I don’t personally like to rank. And as for Paul’s BOTR album, i love it but this is an album that can’t decide if it wants “Helen Wheels” on it or not. Personally in my own humble opinion its not BOTR without it. I know thats not what Paul himself wanted but… give me a break! He mentions Sailor Sam in there, a character mentioned on the BOTR titletrack! GEESH! 😄 that’s a whole controversy in itself…

I know I might get belted for the next comment, however, as just a fun non complex album, Ringo Starr's Christmas album "I Wanna Be Santa Claus" is a great rocking fun Christmas album. It gets played regularly at Christmas at our place.

Wings wildlife is my fav McC album by far. There is something magical about this entire album that was never recreated on any of his following albums (solo or Wings). There is a sonic atmosphere to it that is so compelling. The song wildlife just knocks me out every time I hear it. Dear Friend is gorgeously haunting. every song is great-lots of fun moments too throughout. It din't get noticed when it came out because of no hits, but then again lots of great albums had no radio hits.

I think the Spector production issue was started by George when in the booklet of the reissue in 2001 of All Things Must Pass he said he'd like to "liberate some of the songs from the big production that seemed appropriate at the time, but now seem over the top with the reverb wall of sound", I feel some have jumped on that and it's become normal for fans to criticise the Spectorisation because of George's comment. As for your list mine would differ a little but I wouldn't argue over it. Wild Life's inclusion I was expecting, I can see why you have it there as I do agree the production hasn't dated because there's no gimmicks for it to do so.

I remember George’s comments. But John also once said he wished he could have re recorded most of the Beatles albums🥁🎸

@@mazzysmusic John said a lot of crap about the Beatles music. :) If he had rerecorded them I bet 10 years down the line he would've said the same thing again about them.

I personally never liked Spector's production, even before George's comment. Busy, and noisy, particularly the electric tunes., Wah Wah and Let It Down in particular, being the worst. for me. Hearing the "clean ", un Spectorized early takes on the bootlegs only reinforced my dislike of Spector's work. BTW, I love Wonderwall as well, Mazzy .

@@750drums Yeah, I've felt that way about Spector since the first time I heard ATMP, (which was when it was released). His early work was fantastic with the girl groups and all...but not the Beatles stuff.

It didn't make your list, but Back To The Egg was another Wings album that didn't get its due. That one tops my list of Wings albums. I know everyone loves All Things Must Pass but my choice for best solo is Ram.

Oh and meant to add nice vid, Mazzy...enjoyed your takes on all your selections! 👍

At three LP's I think ATMP is bloated beyond belief, and I cannot abide Spector's production on any Beatle project. Sure, ATMP has some good tunes on it, but I not buying into it's current hagiography. Certainly not #1. I still choose Band on the Run. Back to the Egg is also one of my favorites.

Late to this but I also think ATMP is a slog in places . Definitely behind Ram and POB.

My three favourites are plastic ono band, ram, and all things must pass. I haven't listened to many of there later solo stuff yet and I haven't listened to any Ringo stuff yet either.
