I had a brand new 2011 Hyundai Elantra that saved my life. A girl hit me from the driver side hard and I also was told that I'd have been killed if the frame hadn't been built so well and the car wouldn't have had air bags and seat belts. The air bag knocked me unconscious. I suffered a dislocated shoulder, a fractured rib and a punctured lung but I'm still alive to tell about it. I shudder to think what it would've been like if this had been in the 1950s when they had no safety devices in the cars!! Somewhere on KZfaq there is a crash test between a 1959 Chevy and a 2016 Chevy The newer Chevy absorbed the crash and the test dummy was not torn up. But the 1959 Chevy the test dummy had the steering column pierced through its chest and it was quite a mess.

My Kentucky built 03 with 249k miles has actually need a lot of work, ac currently has a leak. Catalytic converter is bad, replaced CV axle, rack and pinion, wheel bearing on front left, radiator fan motors, radiator, thermostats, water pump, window motors are weak, rubber on the windows is messed up. Also replaced lower control arms and exhaust manifold gasket Engine was replaced at 150k, I'm guessing it became an oil burner. Hoping to upgrade to a 2017 Camry soon though.

@@Megatron995 battery clamp brackets are pretty common items, along with bumper brackets, bumper retainer strips, stabilizer bar brackets, wheel opening brackets. A lot of things you don't see unless there are repairs from a accident. There are right and left side parts and interestingly enough, vehicles must get hit on the driver's side more often because I ship more of those parts. What's funny is I'll look up the parts on eBay and if they have a picture of the part in the bag with the bar code sticker I can tell by the Julian date when it was made by me. I tell my employer they are lucky I'm not like Johnny Cash or I'd be taking parts "one piece at a time" and making some extra cash...

I had a V6 ‘05 Camry with an LPG fuel tank. So cheap to run and it was fantastic while I had it. It did start ageing though - the suspension was weak, and it was slowly developing lots of little problems (eg: transmission light didn’t work; and lots of kms for its age). I miss that car it was great value - lots of travel for not much money.

2002/2003 were bad years for engine head bolts stripping and falling out and then you have to spend a couple grand on new heads or a rebuilt engine! 2007-2009 were bad years for VVT system failures along with massive oil leaks that were expensive to fix! The best years were 1997-2001, 2004-2006, 2010 and newer! I picked out a 2.4 liter 2006 SE trim, which comes with upgraded suspension and 4 wheel ABS disk brakes, for my aunt with 170,000 miles and it's an excellent car!

Hey, that tip about dealers presenting lot cars as owner sales while meeting at a public place instead of a home is a real eye-opener. In Nevada, it's illegal to sell at an empty lot.
