Great video Pano, I was always taught to respect the animals and Mother Nature. A lot of people forget this. I seen where we came up on an deer that had just the head removed and the rest just left where it was. The deer was in good shape but it was a completely waste. And it made me so mad because you should harvest the full animal and leave behind a little bit, to say thank you. People just don’t live that way anymore and we have to continue to teach so the ones that don’t know can learn. Very important message Pano, good stuff!

Nice use of the family pet as an example target! LOL! But seriously, it's a good idea, very similar body. I used to tell my kids, aim for the center of the front half of the deer. Or, divide the deer in half in your mind, ignore the back half, and aim for the center of the front half. In other words, aim directly behind the fore-leg, about half way between the top of the back and the bottom of the belly.

Thanks for the video...as you presented bullet placement is key. My preference is 25-06, a little loud but very versatile. 87-120g bullets. Varmints on up to large deer. Anchored deer at 400+ yards. Respectful handling of the animal is not just ethical but also aids in making the harvest tasty as well. Gene

New sub here (but not a new hunter): Where my folks grew up everyone was poor. They all owned little farms in marginal land in the far north, near the limit of where farming was possible. There was plenty of brush and wet or wooded lots where no one could farm, ideal deer habitat. For their parents, there was only one really affordable firearm, the .22 LR. Minnesota had to outlaw using them for deer, or the "old timers" would never have given up hunting with that caliber. HOWEVER, with proper shot placement, my grandfathers could recover the meat. Taking a chance on losing game was not acceptable to them. It was all about cost per pound of meat. I would NEVER use a .22 LR to take a medium to large game animal like a deer. No way. I'm just not that good a shot, and I can't stand to watch anything suffer. But somehow the "Old Timers" knew how to bring down a white-tail buck with one shot from a .22 LR.

I like 6.5 creedmoor. Light recoil, little Flatter trajectory than .308. Great killing power at good distance - not a lot of wasted meat on white tail deer. I hunt mostly open farm land. This is a perfect round for my set up. It’s great to always cover the basics.

For sure is . Happy hunting

Thanks for the teachings. Confused by the apparent contradiction of: (1) use all of the animal, but (2) leave some behind. Can someone clarify?

Use all of what you don't take (to leave for animals to eat).

7mm-08

What what I read the 270 has a little less recoil than the 308
@john0910773 жыл бұрын
What about 6.5? It's the best of .308, .270 and 7mm combined.
@NorthernWoodsmanElite3 жыл бұрын
6.5 is comparable with the 270 for sure but 308 can hit grass and little sticks and still get on target due to heavier bullet . 7mm is way more effective than 6,5 and 270 but it’s a lot of gun to carry around. Thank you for your comment and for watching

@@NorthernWoodsmanElite Yeah that's true. Here in TN I think my grandpa's old .30-30 is best. I'll never take a shot over 200 yards and it's lightning fast for bear defense.

Lol I’ve watched plenty of deer and hogs drop dead like a sack of potatoes with a 22.

This is not so ethical of a story...... I used to kill deer and drop them in ther tracks with a 22lr rifle.....shot them right in the ear 👂.... also killed many big boar hogs and gators 🐊 in South Florida growing up with a 22. But I was a crazy kid at the time even though I did eat all the meat. You have to be within 30 yards and hit them in the brain. I don’t believe using that now unless in a survival situation so don’t do this ! Good advice ✌️
