In BC the government recomments that in defending yourself against a grizzly that a 30-06 at minimum is recommended with at least 180 grai bullets. But i agree. 7mm rem mag is a good choice. For grizzly i wouldnt go to anything less than a .338 win mag.

Thanks I am buying one today. I live in Louisiana and hunt in both Louisiana and Mississippi. Typical cold days are in the 40s to low 30s but very damp. When I was in the Grand Tetons in 20 degree Fahrenheit it felt the same as being in 40 degree weather here in the south due to humidity in the air. I think this will serve me well when hunting. Good review

I also bought a Council Tools Pack Axe, and have modified it to suit my needs...I did convex the edge, getting rid of the stupid scandi edge....IMHO it has no place on an axe...I have knives to carve with if I need to, however I rarely do that because I ALWAYS carry Jute twine, and Fatwood...cut the twine is 3 inch segments, break it down to fluff, and it will catch fire from any spark instantly, and if you have some shavings of dry wood, you're good to go....fatwood lights easier offa the jute and burns longer than plain shavings, and that's why I use them....I'm 76 years young now, and easier is better LOL.....I also ordered a Boys Axe handle, (they share the same Eye Size), and re-hafted the Pack axe with it, as the 23" handle it came with was too short....the 28" handle made all the difference in the world with the axe, as it is now a VERY good small firewood-camp wood splitter, and the extra 4" of handle is carried just as easily in a pack as the 24" handle...the difference in length is negligible, packing it, and you can always choke up on the handle, but you cannot lengthen it.....and it's a LOT safer splitting with it now, no need to get on your knees if you have a splitting block to put the wood on to split...all in all it's truely a great axe now, and I've had Granfors brux and all the rest...this is the best packing axe that I know of.........OnWard.........

I never used one to be honest . But that design came from me adding features that I knew would work perfectly. All the angles and tooth are built on the measurements I gave William after trial and error and when I was done it end up looking like how you see it

I really liked what you said about remaining perfectly still and quiet after the shot, I've never heard anyone say that before, yet it makes perfect sense. You're not there to dance a jig and pop a cork over the bear just because you put a slug in him. You have food because you killed the animal .

Really good info, especially on snare wire tip. I have that same axe (council tools woodcraft) I modified the edge to convex and carved a 20" straight handle for it. It's been a few weeks, how re you liking it? You may have inspired me to do a video on mine. Hahaha. Good stuff.
@NorthernWoodsmanElite11 ай бұрын
Hey bro . I can see why you convex the edge, not a great chopping axe out of the box . I made some mods on it too I’ll make another video to show you guys
@mikepetrilli468611 ай бұрын
If you use cooper bullets, shoulder shots are fine. 30-30 is not my first choice or even my second choice or third. 45-70 from a stand and its lights out for a bear. 308 is the way to go...black bears are not that hard to kill.

It all depends on what kind of bear and perhaps even where your hunting, alaska coast or interior. Then you have kind of bear. black bear have "thin skin" and grizzy the interior bear have med skin and brownies the coastal have thick skin. I say that because the size of bear will very in size because of those factors. Ok that said. Black bear-30-06 160 to 180 gr noslor partition. Grizzly and Brownies just use the same 338 Winchester Magnum 220 gr noslor partition and always i repeat always spine them. Shoot them behind the head or backbone area. Then they will drop right now.then you hive them a kill shot. 338 Winchester Magnum is the most preferred Alaskan gun for Bear
