So the Rolex is 150% more accurate and has 27% more power reserve yet you claim they are technically the same. That doesn’t track.

I own a Rolex SD43. While it’s a lovely piece and because I also enjoy my Z blue Milgauss, I find myself gravitating towards some of the Breitling Super ocean heritages and special edition (Bond and heritage) Seamasters as a compelling better value diver alternatives (than my SD43). Thanks for the comparisons. God bless.

I bought my Omega for all the reasons you mentioned, Max. I got a Seamaster Diver 300M for its history, quality, value, metas certification, etc., and because I could afford it and the local boutique had plenty to choose from. I get Rolex's following, but my next watch will be another Omega or perhaps a GS.

I owned the Omega Seamaster 300m No Time To Die, which was beautiful to behold in its shades of brown, great comfort with titanium bracelet, and thinner than normal 300m. Alas, it's gone now, as I couldn't read the time in low light conditions( such as my lounge in the evening, or a restaurant) which bugged me over time. Replaced with 14060m Sub, which gives me retro vibes and modern movement. Likely to get me another 300m, but in white on rubber as a beater. To be clear, don't think you will be disappointed owning either.

Man, if you had to choose one the Sub wins the versatility award. It’s so function built in design it’s hard to say no. However, best for me is always vintage with those. And pre-coaxial Seamasters are a joy to wear. Those cases are so thin and with the SS bezel variations you really have stunning piece. I say 5513 with WG dial markers and an early 2000s Seamaster are gives you joy in every way! Plus ease of servicing ;-) But in modern, it’s so subjective. Both so well… or just table flip and get a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms lololol

I bought a white SMP on rubber as I felt I probably should have one. I kept it in the rotation for just over 18 months during which time a desire for a black watch lead me to the Captain Cook Ceramic from Rado. Despite being a much lower spec watch, the CC moved me in a way that the SMP never really did and so the SMP has left the building while the CC looks set for a long and happy home alongside an Oris Upcycle for those alternative dive duty days. I agree that the Sub now denotes someone wanting to buy a Rolex, rather than wanting to buy a great tool watch, which is a bit of a shame really.

As far as I’m concerned, the biggest problem with Rolex are all the judgmental mouth-breathers who make assumptions when they see someone with a Rolex. I’ve been into the hobby for decades, enjoy many brands, but the Sub is my go-to. No gimmicks, just great quality and classic design.

I really love omega. Have previously owned the 1861 Speedy and an Aqua Terra... but i really hope they can create a watch similar in proportions to the new black bay 54...a diver which is 37-39mm and around 11mm thick would be incredible... as things stand, many of their watches are just too thick and chunky...i would also love a solid case back with the waves on the back, like the old Bond seamasters... I'll just have to wait! I'm sure one day they release something compact and elegant

I broke the pearl pip off my ceramic submariner recently. I’ve had my submariner for around 5 years in total, I daily wear it as a equipment mechanic. So I brought it in for service and felt naked without a watch which led me to buy a grey and blue omega seamaster 300… ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Runs about +1 second a day, it’s nice looking, I love the bracelet and the adjustability. For a watch that is a few thousand LESS than my submariner the seamaster punches in pretty high. I’m very happy with it so far BUT I can’t wait to get my sub back, it’s been a part of me for 5 years.

They sent it to Rolex for the repair, it’s not being done by my jeweler. I think that’s a fair price and being under warranty for the movement service that saves me the $1,100 they would charge for a movement service. I’m interested to know what you end up doing and if you get charged the same. I walked into one of those “fast fix” places and they told me $80 to replace the pip, but I didn’t know where they were going to source the part and if it was going to be a genuine part or not so I opted to bring it to the AD that I bought the watch from.

I'm a Bond fan, my first decent watch was the "Goldeneye" Seamaster and the Casino Royale Planet Ocean. At the time (2007) my friend showed me his Sub which I'd always admired, until I felt the bracelet and heard the price differential. I still like the look of a no date sub but would not risk death by a thousand cuts by my wife for spending £10k on a watch, She'd have me committed. Saying that, the No Time To Die Seamaster is now in a similar price Realm. My own grail watch is the Spectre Seamaster 300. I prefer this model for the absence of the helium escape valve. I'd recently texplained the Rolex waiting list/ purchase history thing to my mate. He couldn't believe it. On a recent shopping trip I took him into a large jeweller and expressed interest in a Rolex Explorer. He couldn't believe it when they said they could add me to their " Register Of Interest." However, I could walk out with any Omega they had. Enough said I think.

I own the 2531.80 and 2220.80 wave dial Seamaster. It was the 2541.80 (Golden eye) aged 10 that started my collection hobby. I had the 210.90.42 (NTTD) Seamaster but did not ‘bond’ with it at all. Which was a shame as I’m a massive bond fan. I also had the Sub 114060. It was too much on my wrist. It felt soulless and just there. Annoying me at how shiny and glitzy it was. If I was to ever buy another Sub it would hands down be the 14060M 2-liner. I like the new 60th release with the lollipop nod to the Spectre watch, the animated case-back but not the 60 on the bezel. I get it’s the 60th, just not for me. I not long ago purchased the Green Dial Seamaster and I have to say it’s the best watch I’ve ever owned. I absolutely love it. Highly recommend getting hands on with one, it’s sublime. 🤩

I want a 14060m 2-line too. Too bad they got so expensive in the last 3 years (like everything else). I really wanted a 5512/5513 but given the price difference the 14060 is the next best option and the 5-digit models are peobably the best option if you want a more vintage look and feel but without the drawbacks of a vintage watch. Same goes for the GMT 16710. Way nicer than the new ones. That being said, I’m currently waiting on Rootbeer that costs only a little more than a nice 16710. It’s hard to justify getting a 5-digit model for the same price as a “newer, better” model that has 5-years warranty on top of that. Still, i have trouble warming up to the bew subs.

@@denniskai2331 I am not saying that homage watch is not worth buying. However it is best to buy authentic watch instead of homage as which does not bring long term happiness or refresh that an authentic one will bring.

👍 The Pelagos 39 is the no date Sub for those w/o AD connections and not dumb to pay Grey, over MSRP, for a Sub. Perfect as a dress watch, in sporting environments.

@@denniskai2331 I agree that sometimes a watch collector would like to own a homage watch so as to verify whether it is suitable for himself or herself. However do not waste too much money on the homage watches as which will not have long term satisfaction and comfort from my experience.

I was all about shiny and bling bling... suddenly the nomos and the bb54 changed something in me, I like watches that are ''quiet'' under the radar type. I almost feel stupid getting a watch just so others can see I have a watch... When I got my call for the omega aqua tera I said I'm good, thanks. I can relate to ur friend being kinda ''pissed'' having to spend money with a not so sure feeling about it :D

Tbh I had the recent feeling over a Rolex. It's little to do with the watches but more the whole waitlist rubbish. I got a call after 2 years of waiting and for me if you asked which one I'd keep it's smp300 every day. I love my Rolex but the whole experience and fomo makes it a bad experience for me. It'll be the first and last rolex I'll own.

@@denniskai2331 One of the things that makes something desirable is the lack of availability. The harder something is to get the more valuable it becomes. It’s like the diamond industry , De Beers understood this and this is why they buy up all the worlds diamond minds, you controls the supply you control the prices how else can they sell almost worthless stones and such insane prices. Rolex and De Beers are the kings of marketing

@@canadianwatchmonkey3992 good marketing is a normal and desirable business practice. Rolex supply only fell during the pandemic shutdowns, but has been back to full capacity for awhile and they are building a new factory to increase capacity. They currently make almost twice as many watches as Omega.

I agree with this conclusion. I'm on the waiting list for the sub, but I'm currently in deep, maddening love with my two SMP300s, especially the green one. I'm not even remotely excited about the sub, hardly think about it, and the day I get the call will be just like any other regular Tuesday. I'll likely go get it, but I already feel like it will be sold within 2 months. No hate to the rolex purists, and im sure they have their reasons, but the Omega is more of a conservative flex, and more visually stimulating

I’ve been through four different Subs and none have satisfied me head wise to the degree where I felt okay keeping that much money parked in one. As for Omega their diver design language doesn’t resonate with me at all heart wise so their lower price point won’t ever attract me as a potential buyer. With AD wait times shrinking I’m going to give a new No Date Sub a try before surrendering to the urge to find an apex diver for my mix from a less prominent maker like Doxa or Blancpain. Thanks for showing clips of the epic backyard party, my sweatshirt makes me easy to spot.
