I also got The Step Health Club Size (43"x16"). It gives you more flexibility in doing bench exercises, a wider stance for squats, and doesnt limit you to which direction you face (always front to back with the one in the video). It has 6 notches for bands. So you can do X band wide squats. Do bench and have your back fully supported. As functional as the Clench foot board but way cheaper.

I also have this platform and pretty much the same setup. You can also do push ups with this if you put your hands on the platform and the band on looped around your back.

Could you consider reviewing the "harambe system" or the "x3 bar" which are similar to what you made here? I think the comparison video would be awesome and would give you perspective on how your system compares to commercial products! I know there are other similar systems too but the harambe one is the one I have heard most about

Hey Darrik, I bought your platform and like using it very much. I also purchased the J hooks. However, I returned them because in one of your videos you mentioned using them with the platform, the bands may snap. There were only a few exercises you said they were good for and I agree. I bought the bar and think it is a great addition to my set. Like you, I found the J hooks had limited usefulness, not enough for me to keep them. I have a great set of heavy duty tube bands that come with equally strong handles...not the cloth strap ones with the handles that rip into your skin, and found these better than the J hooks. I will just wear gloves when using the loop bands...also I get better range (tension) of motion without the J hooks. Your exercises are awesome! Thank you for sharing them with us. It helps my conditioning for hockey🇨🇦 and look forward to your next video.

Nice. Which handles do you have? Or, if it is in a package deal, what was the overall package with the handles? I am interested to see how they compare.
@iceone1216
@iceone1216 Жыл бұрын
@@GamerBody they are the P90X set. However, mine is an older version. I tried searching the type of handles I have and they don't seem to be available anymore. They were one piece, strong plastic where the tube slips into the base. The handle part is independent of the handle and allows you to do your exercises without hand friction as the tube rolls with the exercise. I find all the "strap" handles rubs into my skin, chafing it (very uncomfortable). The rubber tubes are amazingly durable as they are still good after 10 years of use.

Have you ever heard of ladder sets? What are your thoughts on doing them with bands? Like doing 3 reps then 5 then 7 or however you want to do them?
@GamerBody
@GamerBody Жыл бұрын
It can work, but won't produce any additional benefits if you already stimulated the target muscle enough in the earlier sets. You may just be doing junk sets. It could add some variety though if things are getting boring.

Thanks for posting this! I have bought the platform, bands, and hooks! Can you briefly describe the difference between a resistance band squat and deadlift? With primarily your videos I've started strength training for the first time in 20 years! I've rapidly progressed from ~110lb deadlift to 220lb in 2-3 months! But I'm still not sure I'm doing squats and deadlifts correctly with bands. With the deadlift I squeeze my butt to protect my lower back, and stand up straight, then lift with my legs to lock out. With the squat I do the opposite. But I don't think I'm doing it right. Do you have any thoughts on how to describe the difference?
@GamerBody

Here is how I think of them when performing each exercise: Squat: Extending the knees to get into fully standing position Romanian Deadlift: Hinging at the hips to get into standing position Also, in the squat I will have a greater overall knee bend than the Romanian Deadlift (makes sense based on how I think of those movements). Also, in the squat, think of your head always staying in roughly the same spot, where the Romanian deadlift the head is going from out in front of your body, to directly above it. Just some cues I think of during each exercise.

@@GamerBody Thanks, super good feedback! With my deadlift I was first straightening my knees, and finishing standing with my back. I will work on that!

Personally I thought it was a bit hard on my bands, especially when I had multiple bands under the platform. I ended up designing my own with a 3d printer and big ass cutting board. It is a great idea though and it is a bit of a game changer, thanks man.

How can I progressive overload with bands without the platform to stand on?
@GamerBody
@GamerBody Жыл бұрын
You can: Reduce the slack by grabbing the bands closer to the center (or just so less band material is stretched from the anchor point) Add more bands together. Stand on the band and separate your feet (this adds more tension to the bands making them more difficult). Do more reps at a given band tension. I do recommend the platform though as it standardizes the exercise so each time you do the same thing and can tell if you actually got stronger. Just my 2 cents.

Is this board suitable for tube style bands?
@GamerBody
@GamerBody Жыл бұрын
It should be. I have not used any so I can't say for certain, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just make sure the tube bands you have don't have a lot of friction or it may be hard to get both sides even during the setup.
@rockweapon7895

When you are doing squads with the handles on your sides, why dont you go down to 90 degrees with your butt? It looks like, you are only doing half of the movement. Im having exactly the same setup and I noticed, If iam doing it the way you do, that my quads nearby my knees are more activated, but the upper part is missing out. So I still go down to at least 90 degrees. Even if I loose some more tension from the band going down to 90 degrees or less (sometimes the band is loose when going more down than 90 degrees, but Its not so bad in my opinion), I feel my upper quads more doing it that way. With front Squads the issue is stressing out your quads enough. I always feel more my ass and hamstrings from front squads. And Back Squads is not possible with that kind of setup, only if you have some ropes attached to the bar like the harambe system. Interested in your opinion about it. Thanks for your content!

Both mobility in that position, and camera angle somewhat. I think I do go further down in a front squat, but mobility is just something I need to improve with (and balance) when using just the handles.

Are you able to stress out your muscle, so that you cannot do another rep in a rep range to 10 in a front squad? I do find it hard, to start going with the bar up at the starting position, if the resistance is to heavy. @@GamerBody

@@rockweapon7895 Yes I can, and have, got my legs to go to failure with the resistance bands in a front squat. However, I do review and make sure it wasn't the biceps or even lower back giving out first. It can be tough to tell, but my best advice is to try and imagine you are using only the muscles in your legs (mostly quads) to shorten and get into a standing position. This would also be known as mind-muscle connection. Also, start lighter and build up the skill/movement first, then slowly add more resistance in time to focus on keeping the tension in the lower body and not elsewhere.

Just another option for resistance. As long as you stress the muscle with a great enough stimulus, then get nutrition and recovery correct, you will build muscle.

Do you combine bands together and use the platform seen in this video? Height could play a role too if you are really short there is no pre-stretch. At 5'11" I find it has enough tension (for me) for a lot of exercise. The bar itself can do at least 7 of my personal favorite exercises.

Can you do squats with this bar?
@tez665
@tez665 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can. I have pretty much this exact setup (the bar, a version of this step, and the link attachments). I use a single loop with the band through the step itself. Make sure you start from the bottom of the squat movement, then place the bar in position (I usually do front squats with crossed hands on opposite shoulders because it's easier), and then rise and stand up straight from there.
