The BEST F1 1991 Sim Racing Experience Just Got Even Better!

One of my favorite series in AMS 2 are the F-Classic Gen4 aka F1 1991. In one of my last videos on the this class [see inset above right] I requested that also the original helmets would be implemented. And indeed, as the modder Scar666 watched my video he then provided his helmet pack in agreement with Alain Fry, one of the authors and the publisher of these fantastic skins you're seeing here. That's another milestone for me. Because driver helmets are simply an essential identification factor; some you even associate inseparably with certain car designs.
But it gets even better, because thanks to Raphael Rodrigues, the generic colorless and sponsorless overalls and gloves have now been replaced by textures with the real designs and logos of 1991. Mansell in his blue Williams suit with blue gloves. Piquet in the bright yellow Benetton overall. Senna and Berger in red and so on and so forth...
And it doesn't even stop there. Because there have been new sound files for the Renault V10 engine out for quite some time which I now eventually have placed in the back of the Williams'. And they really make a difference, adding a high-pitch screaming that was characteristic for the V10s.
For me as an immersion junkie and sucker for authenticity, these are additional puzzle pieces that further complete the picture of the perfect F1 1991 season. And are another reason - if it needs any - to do some laps with and against these cars. Today we're doing a 23-lap race on the historic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, recreating the '91 race with authentic date, weather and a super-accurate Custom AI. I was able to achieve Pole by quite a margin, yet, I know that the race will tell a different story ... because tires. But watch it for yourselves, guys, all I wnt to say is that this was one of my most intense races against the AI. Ever.

Hi, Carlos, thank you very much! About 10 % of my subs are from Brazil, and I guess it's mainly due to my AMS 2 contents. But it may become more! 😇 Through AMS 2 I myself have learned a lot about Brazilian racing series. The Brazilian Stock Car Pro Series has become one of my favs in the game and also overall.

This game is all around an AMAZING open wheel sim, not just for F1, but for IndyCar too. CART at Long Beach and Laguna are a great experience in VR. Just a shame they couldn't get the real IR-18 chassis in the game.

Just found your channel. Love your AMS2 content Timo! I’ve been playing AMS2 for about 3 years off and on. Classic formula 1 of any era is amazing in this game. The historic tracks make me drool….like Adelaide 1988… I had no idea that was formerly an F1 track.. the AI fight brilliantly and the sounds are incredible along with the intense FFB. It’s hard not to neglect my kids to play more of this lol.

After the race , If you view the replay from the A.I vehicles cockpit- They never lose grip , never slide , their traction is perfect. Reiza need to fix this. It’s so frustrating

Williams already had a semiautomatic gearbox with paddle shifters back in 91. So, you had more stress than necessary whilst driving. 😉😊

I am BRAND NEW to sim racing and I’m totally hooked! We were buying games for our VR over Christmas on sale and I thought a racing game might be fun. So I bought AMS2. Grabbed an Xbox controller and plugged it into my sons PC. Within a week I had ordered the Moza R5 bundle with a brake pedal upgrade. Now that I have had that for a couple weeks, I wish I’d of gone bigger! I am loving the classic Formula 1 stuff but I have a ton to learn! I am a Mac user so the whole PC thing with mods is new to me. I’ve been learning about this late 80’s early 90’s era of racing and now making this authentic is a must do! So I have to figure all this out now! Subbed!

Now I need to add a proper seat, although this setup allows consistent and fixed placement of the seat. Are there any tutorials for the installation of the mods? I am looking at some DLC for AMS2 today... 😎

Habe eine kleine Meisterschaft mit den 91er-Autos absolviert und dabei für jedes Rennen das AI-File so editiert, dass genau die Fahrer ausschieden wie damals in der Saison. Klappte einwandfrei...😊

Da hast du mich: Welche Werte hast du wie verändert? Trotz vieler Experimente mit den Mistake- und Reliability-Werte finden ich, passiert immer noch etwas zu wenig in Bezug auf Fahrfehler und DNF.

@@TimoDick In der Zeile "" kann man auch negative Werte vergeben (in den übrigen Parametern funktioniert das nicht). Wenn Du z.b. willst, dass ein Fahrer sehr früh ausscheidet, kannst Du ihm den Wert "-5.0" geben, er fährt dann nicht lange. Auch noch höhere negative Werte sind natürlich möglich. In den Spieleinstellungen habe ich "Random failures" aktiviert und auf "sync to race" gestellt. Wenn Du möchtest, dass Dein eigener Bolide durchhält, solltest Du bei hohen positiven Werten wie z. B. "0.9" bleiben. Vor den Änderungen das originale AI-File sichern, damit Du später nicht alles händisch wiederherstellen musst. Klappt mit den Open Wheelern ziemlich gut, mit Klassen wie P1 weniger, weil diese Wagen bereits so standfest sind, dass sie auch bei sehr niedrigen Werten meist durchhalten. Ein Zusatz: Erst vor dem Rennen die Werte vergeben, sonst scheiden die Piloten mit schlechten Werten bereits im Training/Qulifying aus. Im Championship-Modus aber kein Problem, weil man da nach dem Quali vor dem Rennstart aus dem Spiel gehen kann.

Man, I envy you. Saw it live on TV, and, as a Mansell fan, I was devastasted when he DNFed on the last lap. Years later, I learned that he actually made a mistake and while waving to the fans he stalled the engine. Mansell drama at its best , always somewhere in between tragedy and stupidity.

Hey Timo! WOW! Ich weiss gar nicht wo ich anfangen soll. Zunächst mal ein Riesenkompliment von mir für das was du gezeigt hast. Das war konstant super! Finde es sehr gut, dass du Rennen über eine längere Distanz fährst als die Mehrheit. Bei nur 5 Rennrunden kommt man nicht in den Genuss Situationen beim Überrunden zu meistern. Beim "Vergnügen" mit Caffi und Co kann das Herz schon mal höher schlagen, das war wirklich haarig, haste aber echt gut gemeistert. Wenn man ein so langes Rennen ins Netz stellt schauen die meisten sich nicht alles an, aber das ist ja dann deren Problem. Ich fand es mega spannend. Habe noch nie "Formel 1 20xx" gespielt und das brauche ich auch nicht, weil AMS 2 es quasi perfekt simuliert! Und alles in allem macht die KI das auch sehr gut. Kannst du deine Videos in 4K hochladen? Das wäre noch geiler. Lieben Gruss...🤘

Hi Dominik, vielen Dank, weiß ich zu schätzen! Ich bin das Rennen 3 x mal gefahren, die hochgeladene ist die letzte Aufnahme. Da hatte ich mit dem "Drama" auch ein bisschen Glück, das lässt sich ja nicht skripten. Dass es so intensiv würde, hatte ich aber auch nicht erwartet. Die beiden anderen Rennen waren etwas zahmer. Ich sehe es wie du - längere Rennen sind auf ihre Weise viel spannender und realistischer. Und AMS 2 macht das so gut wie keine andere Sim. 4K geht leider nicht. Spiele am 49er mit 5120x1440 und capture quasi den mittleren Bildbereich in 2560x1440.

@@TimoDick Danke für die schnelle Antwort Timo. 🙏 Die Qualität deiner Videos ist ja schon sehr gut. Es wäre halt für mich noch geiler anzuschauen auf meinem Apperat in 4K. Zum Glück haut das alles bei mir recht gut hin mit 4K, aber das kann ich auch erwarten mit der Hardware. Also, bis die Tage, werde bestimmt auch mal längere Rennen aufnehmen. Hau rein...🤘

Nice video! Blue flag behaviour of the AI needs to be improved dramatically. Right now, they tend to block and push faster cars out of the race.

Timo another great video….. these cars a blast to drive. I do have a question you mentioned custom AI….. I added the 91 to my collection earlier today- does the custom AI come in the mod pack? Or is it a separate download?

Strictly speaking, no, since not all tracks of the 91 season are in the game. Yet 7 or 8 are in there, even in their former shape. There is a game mode called Custom Championship in which you can set pretty much everything to your liking and as authentic as you want it.

@@speedgoat7496 There are some track mods. But not many and not for the F1 1991 season but conversions from Project Cars tracks. AMS2 is limited in modding. Yet I have more fun with it regarding authenticity than with any other sim. I prefer having 7 times 99% authenticity over 16 times 75%.

There's just one more factor and i hope Reiza are reading this......update the pits so the pit crew suits can match the drivers and add more animations to the paddock (like F122/23) and its the most immersive experience ever....

I just think your throttle control coming out of the corners and the very quick upshift from 2nd to 3rd is whats letting you down. You hardly use 2nd gear so your not maximizing the acceleration on exit. Short shifting to negate wheel spin instead of using less throttle and balancing the car.

You're right. Yet, I found it too tricky too rev up completely in 1st and 2nd, the chance of wheel spin was too high for me. This was my "safe mode" to make it through at a decent pace - and to commentate at the same time.

@@TimoDick i know what you mean as the car is one of my favorites. It took me a long time to get the balance right myself which is why i saw it straight away. These cars are the most fun because getting it right is so hard to do but when you find that perfect limit of traction is so rewarding. Great race non the less mate!
