I never leave comments, but I bought these flash cards a couple of months ago and they are simply the best - such great quality! And using the instruction from your channel has helped me teach my son to read. He went from not even being confident with the letter sounds to reading level 1 readers in the course of this past summer! Thank you for what you do!!

I purchased the flash cards and my son absolutely loves them! He’s been really keen on “playing” phonetics since. I also purchased your course, later realizing the downloadable files, including the flash cards, are for letter size paper. Something I do is cover the uppercase and lower case when I review. I noticed my baby was recognizing the capital letters and not the lowercase. Great video and thank you for what you do, you are awesome!

I have a child with ADHD. I myself do as well but was undiagnosed until adullthood. Sight words weren't really a thing, but I was an excellent reader because I learned pronunciation rules. I saw letter combinations as "sound shapes" that fit together. I feel like sight words are difficult especially with ADHD and working memory defecits, especially when they must say it in 3 seconds. It's so hard.

I feel I need to learn before I teach my child. Is there a full layout of the order inwich the child should be taught? I purchased the teach your child to read in 100 lessons and it’s very similar to this, I feel but I’m a slow reader so I struggle to find time to read the entire thing before teaching my child.

Definitely sounds. You don't use the names to pronounce (sound out the letters). Naming the letters is only useful in conversation. Basically, when you can't write them or when ordering things. You want your kid to automatically go for the sound and name the letter only when a specific activity requires naming. The kid doesn't need to know any letter names to read. My mother tongue has a roman alphabetic script, but I can read words written in Cyrillic, because I know what sound each letter makes. I don't know the name for any Cyrillic letter. Привет I know the П = /p/ Р /r/ И = /i/ В = /v/ Е = /je/ Т = /t/ I don't know if П is called /pe/ /pi/ /pa/ or what ever. I only need to know that it makes the /p/ sound. Now if I asked my friend,"How do you spell it?" they could tell me the letter names in which case I'd need to know them, but I don't need to know their names to read Russian words I see or to write words that I hear. The same principle applies to the Latin alphabet. I recommend to teach the name of the letters only after they can successfully blend words and can do so quickly. You want the sounds to come very quickly, but it's not a big deal if it takes a bit longer to recall the name of a letter.

Having both uppercase and lowercase on the same card I think is not ideal, because suppose the kid can only recognize one accurately, or learns to provide the sound only when both letters are presented- it's probably jarring to move into reading words where only half of the cue (one letter) is present and have to give the sound. Or rather, maybe a child should learn on these cards, and then transition to a second set of uppercase and lowercase letters.

@@toddlerscanread Thanks a bunch for all of your work! So much assumes kids are 6 or 7 when they start to learn letters and it's great to see what kids are capable of. My daughter is two and learned her letters+ sounds and a few sight words but transitioning to CV sounds has been a challenge but your guides look great and I'll be checking out the course
