I’m normally pretty OCD about my vehicles I have not had any issues at all with the steering feel or tracking of the Grenadier. On the contrary, it feels like an old Land Cruiser to me, which I enjoy. The other day, I was traveling on US287 in Colorado, the most dangerous highway in the U.S., and, sure enough, a big rig was oncoming in my lane as it tried to pass another truck. By the time I realized the trucker was not going to get back in to his lane in time, he was less than a half mile out. This wasn’t going to end well for one of us and my odds were far worse than his. We were heading towards each other at 75mph on a lonely, two lane road with a steeply sloped shoulder. I only had a few seconds to figure it out. I hit the sloped bank to my right at no less than 50 mph - probably closer to 55 mph - and tried to keep from flipping as I angled down the grassy hill in to someone’s pasture. Amazingly, the Grenadier didn’t flinch. I was in control the entire time. It was near effortless. It felt solid - and I could steer. I stopped safely at the bottom of the grade and listened to a cacophony of truck horns. I sat for a minute before climbing back up the grade. I continued on to my destination and then headed back in the direction I came. When I got near the incident, there were four police cruisers on each side of the road. It took me a minute to realize that a trucker probably called it In and they were likely looking for me. They were probably expecting to find a flipped vehicle laying in the field. If Ineos erred toward the off road angle of the camber, I’m grateful. It came in handy for me. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Very clearly describe the problem with a more clearly described solution. Thank you. That's why I appreciate instructors.

I had the geometry set up for £90.00 here in the UK, knew it was off as soon as I received it. No issues now. No wander, settled angle on constant radius turns. Pressures are critical as well. 8.5k miles later no issues.

A good clear description of what to check - i suspect caster settings on grenadiers require a check if you are a new owner ( as we all are )

Many of us have found that as you get more kilometres (miles) on the tyres it improves significantly on its own, presumably as tyres wear in. Caster is likely a way to get a jumpstart on that, you may neee to adjust again as tyres wear. (Which isn’t unusual)

Just looked under my grenadier and mine are slightly different. One is right back. Opposite to yours and one is ever so slight forward (bolt is 2mls further forward) so not sure if thst difference will affect the handling but ill be getting them moved forward for sure

My 1976 Ford Bronco had caster issues. But, it was only designed to go 55 mph, MAX. It was basically 1 degree from the factory and years later people figured out how to adjust it out to 6 degrees (with parts). Night and day difference. But, it's 50 YEARS OLD. If the IG is close to zero, that is horrible they made that decision in the modern world. If its suppose to be 2 and they delivered it at 0, they need to fix that problem. Even if I have to drive 5 hours, I would do that. Very curious to understand what this adjustment makes on the already bad turning radius. Great insight and video. It would be great if you could show the actual adjustment process to used. Thank you.

Wow. Only 2 degrees is the spec- that is surprising. Seems like most cars are 4-5. I can't imagine that increases the turning radius a noticeable amount.

Caster of positive 2 degees seems very low. I'm guessing adding in even more castor is going to cause front driveshaft vibration/harmonics issues. It seems that this is a two part upgrade....more caster and figuring out how to turn the pinion back to "factory" angles.

INEOS standard spec for Caster Angle is 2 - 2.36 degrees. So your one just wasn’t set correctly at PDI.

All these steering concerns in the U.S. This business of wandering seems weird after putting 1,000s of km on a RHD in Australia. The car sits rocks steady on all road types. It doesn’t wander, and simply doesn’t need constant attention. His car seems out of spec and maybe this is common on the early US builds. Maybe all the new owners complaining about this should be getting it fixed at their dealer. This is not really a “free upgrade”, but it is a good catch of (maybe widespread) out of spec castor angle on Grenadiers being delivered to customers.

@@markelliott6105 Yes, I have seen this specific complaint many times. Seems the factory is at fault sending them out like this, but there may be a reason for it. The local INEOS representatives are supposed to set up wheel alignment before delivery as part of PDI, but some forget. I’ve seen isolated reports of the problem in most regions. Mine has been 100% from the start, I love it. Had a friend with the same issue and he said it was like a completely different car to drive once wheel alignment was sorted out.

2 degrees at max is low... A nice product would be a caster bolt delete with a fixed length control arm that sets it to 4 degrees

You seem to have no understanding of the purpose of using recirculating ball steering in a 4x4. "Somebody said it was intentional?" This was designed by Magna Steyr specifically for 4x4 performance not blasting down the freeway to the local mall. Positive caster will increase the turning radius of the vehicle, which is already a point of contention for some people. Stock caster on the IG is supposed to be 2 degrees maxing at 2 degree 36, so looks like this was off from factory spec. But otherwise a very nice explanation of caster in general. Cheers

I agree, the Grenadier was designed with 4x4 performance in mind, the lockers and solid axles are clear in their intent. That said, if it was purely designed as an offroad vehicle then why add sway bars? In my opinion the vehicle needed more caster to be safe at freeway speeds. If ours was off from the factory then maybe we go unlucky As for the recirculating ball, I have many old land cruisers and am familiar with the slop that is typical from them. When I said "someone said this was intentional", I was referring to the wheel not returning to center.

It seems removing altogether or swapping for a differently valved steering damper can improve the return to centre steering significantly .
