Agree on all points made Will! I ran into a collector in one of the FB groups who had about 50 figures deep in a Moducase DF60 and it was the most insane thing I had ever seen. All museum poses and all one on top of another. This video is meant for that collector. However, it they feel good about the way they have their collection who am I to rain on their parade.

I have actually been enjoying the trimming down of my collection over the past 2-3 years. Thankfully most of my figures held their value and some went up. Its nice having a less clustered collection now. My general experience is Hot Toys and similar high end 1/6 collectibles easily hold their value so from that point of view its a good thing to get into, its not money down the drain.

Great video. How about a collection not only from the same franchise but also can create its own story. Do you follow a story from the movies or do you make your own story from the characters on display?

For me, what makes me look at my collection and go "that's awesome" would definitely be organization: MCU goes with MCU, Batman with Batman, etc. Space awareness is also important. I can technically fit all my spidey figures and the nwh villains on one shelf but its cluttered so the villains have their own shelf now and it looks awesome. You're definitely right about not buying the newest thing. New Iron Man figures I usually go for because they are new armors and or worthy 2.0s but my Infinity War Thor will be superior in look than that comic book ridiculousness of Love and Thunder.

I really appreciate the thought and effort you put into your videos and your descriptions of the methods and philosophy behind collecting are on point IMO. I don't think I've ever come across another 1/6 scale content creator who has explained this so thoroughly and well and what you say resonates with how I approach collecting. Whilst there's always elements of subjectivity, generally speaking order or structure is preferable to disorder, uncluttered is preferable to cluttered and dynamic is preferable to static because it just draws the eye and maintains interest and attention better. Some of the best collections I've seen involve just a few figures displayed individually in dynamic poses. Personally however, aside from the lack of real estate to display every figure individually, my preference is to recreate iconic scenes involving multiple figures. I think what ultimately should guide our collection display and curation methods are our objectives. For me telling a story or recreating iconic scenes is the single most important objective. Therefore, for me it makes sense to display multiple figures and include dioramas in ways which as faithfully as possible recreate the scene. Most the time that means more dynamic posing and more spacing between figures. For another collector their objective might simply be to complete a line or have representations of every figure they enjoy. For them it might make sense to display multiple in more static museum poses and have less spacing between figures.

one thing I hate is when people ask me how many figures, dolls, etc. that I have in my collections. I don't count them, I don't collect numbers, I collect what I like, not others tell me I need to collect. Collecting is very personal, the important thing is if you like it. There are collectors that don't debox, there are collectors that love to kitbash. To each their own. bv

Honestly I speak for everyone when I say the only way to display is a permanent collectors Christmas tree, you just hang a Hot Toy from each branch so you can pose them how you like without them falling over and the lighting is like £2. You take your favourite figure and stick the top branch up it's battery compartment and it's the angel really it's the only way to really show off a collection. You can keep the boxes wrapped under the tree for thematic consistency.

My main goal is to do a mainly spiderman and batman display with their villains and occasional other heros from their universe

Another component I'm thinking of adding to my display is decorative items to make it pop alittle more. I've seen people use lightboxes, digital frames, movie/character posters etc. I also want to add team logos to each of my Moducases but I don't know what to use.

I'd say my collection is almost complete. All im waiting for now are the remaining Dark Knight figures coming out later this year, Jake, Neytiri, and clone wars obi wan. I wish we could get hot toys Andor and Dune figures though.

Yeah, I was thinking about picking up Shin Hati and Baylan Skoll but I discovered it was just a hype train mentality affecting me. Glad I didn't.
