For real, I can go watch my local club ball teams smack 300 plus foot homers and throw perfect games any weekend during the summer, and these kids are idolized for throwing hard and hitting the ball 250 feet. Then that kid ties his shoes with his batting gloves on, hell I can't even do that

@@dillonhunt1720it would actually be really hard to cheat with the way Taiwan does their LL setups. Their LL teams are elementary school teams. So to get a 14 yo onto the team they’d have to hold them back in school, not to mention deal with parents who’d be upset their kid’s spot is taken by a 14 year old. Taiwan ranks high on the worldwide journalism and free speech standards so the news would be ALL OVER that kind of controversy. But if you’re alluding to their past cheating in the 70’s/80’s yes they cheated harshly back then; it prompted the whole elementary school team rules.

These kids aren't even the top talent in their age group. Anyone who is serious about their kid's development in the sport doesn't even give a thought to putting their kid in a Little League team. When I was 12 we played on full size fields, 7 innings, lead offs, etc. because I played on select travel ball teams.

Taiwan has competed in International baseball as Chinese Taipei for around 50 years. In every WBC since inception in 2006, in several Olympics, in the IBAF Intercontinental Cup since inception in 1973, IBAF World Baseball Cup (event commenced 1938) and have been many times Asian Champions.

Those kids looked dumbfound at bat. That’s enough to make a kid realize some tough truths about the world. I am a huge hustle defense guy though so watching them get those saves and dives and last second catches is cool. Besides its the World Series I hope every kid still remembers that they can be proud of themselves just for getting there.

Keep in mind that little league fields are smaller, too. The pitcher's mound is closer. That 70mph slider? The amount of time they have to react is about the same as a 100mph slider from a big league mound.

@@psymarthis is just a false myth. It’s about reaction time which has to do with speed and not velocity, which is what that comparison measures. If your comparison held up it should be near-impossible to hit a 30mph ball from 10 feet away as that’s the equivalent of a 270mph pitch from 90feet away. But it’s not, because hitting isn’t about velocity, it’s about speed the moment a ball passes the plate.

Great point because some nations do not allow such pitches, like curve balls, at this age. It was always considered that the physical development required for the pitches did not occur untilaged 14 or thereabouts.

Exactly. This is why you're seeing so many kids having Tommy John surgery now, and some of them it's happening in college. I remember playing little league and my coaches all said no throwing breaking pitches whatsoever.

As someone who played in the AS-PAC regional tournaments in 2015 and 2016 for team Saudi Arabia, I can say that, although Chinese Taipei was not as intimidating as the Korean team, playing them was like a kick in the balls. The only home run I gave up in my entire Little League career was to a 4’6” kid from Chinese Taipei who took me to right-center.

My son plays club ball for 10U and we were seeing kids this good last year at 9U. We had a 9yo pitcher who was throwing 63mph. It was eye opening how good these younger kids are today. They spend a lot of time on the fields.

I always thought most youth catchers in baseball were neglected as far as being taught the fundamentals. I still think that after watching most of these games so far. I would love to see the stats on passed ball runs this season.

Good catchers are very rare, especially at this age. Travel teams are able to find them, but with LL they can only draw from their own districts so the chance of having one in any particular area is slim to none.

@@sntslilhlpr6601 Don't get me wrong, I saw some fundamentally sound catchers. However what you wrote proves my point. In a whole district of LL players not one coach took the time or had the knowledge to teach basic fundamentals. Catching the top or side of a ball, basic blocking, basic stance with and without runners on base. Kids catching from their knees with players on base at the LL world series is a coach failure not a talent pool failure IMO.

You’re not wrong. To often a catchers practice is just catch the pitchers. I tried once a week to run catcher only drills. We worked on everything with them. I had multiple stud catchers and we did very well in tournaments. The main thing we stressed was how to receive the ball. Nothing worse than a pitcher throwing a strike and the catcher turning it into a ball.

FYI @JomboyMedia The strike zone in LL is bigger, does not need to be over the plate. The strike zone is one from the armpits to the knees, and the size of baseball to either side of the plate (pretty much anything between the two batter boxes).

I mean, there's no reason they would lie. Some select few end up starting puberty much earlier than others. The estimated range for when puberty begins is roughly between 9-14, with the average being around 12

I was one of the best pitchers in our area in little league... made the All-Star team 3 years in a row and won the Cy Young award my last year... With that said #17 makes me realize I was an absolute trash pitcher and now I'm rethinking my entire childhood... Thanks my guy 😢 Edit: Then he hits a nuke lol... RESPECT to all these amazing young athletes... they are just on a different level than when I was a kid and its awesome to see... now my boys are in Little League and it's awesome to see them experience these best years of their childhood... God I love baseball 💯

Ask yourself why a nation would risk any embarrassment by being called cheats at such a high level of global tournament.

@@flamingfrancisI’m on the fence about this kids age, too. Some kids are big, or start puberty earlier than others. But there can also be issues like proper birth dates and poor calendar conversion, in some countries. I can’t recall the scenario/story, but I remember reading about an individual who was in a bind over their incorrect age that was the result of their government incorrectly converting their local calendar with the more commonly used Gregorian Calendar. This meant their government documents were wrong.

Wait til you find out that these kids are just barely above average. Kids who play in Area Code or other travel-based leagues are far more talented. There are literally only 2 current MLB players that played in Little League organizations.

I remember when I was on my local Williamsport team. We had some good players. Our "top guy" was already over 6 feet tall and easily threw 70+. He would crush home runs 300+ feet with ease. There was actually a fairly busy road about 75 feet away from the left field fence. He hit a few balls into that street. Needless to say, he was the "talk of the team." When tournament time came, we blew away the first two teams we played. Then, we came up against this pitcher who looked very unassuming. That was until I saw him warming up. I knew he was going to be a problem. He was a lefty, which was rare. He threw hard, probably 65-70 and had a really nasty curve. He struck out our first two batters. I batted third. I'm a lefty as well (although I throw right-handed), but never had any problem hitting against lefties. Not to brag because we're talking about facing 12-year-old kids here (although I was the youngest kid on the team), but I think my batting average that season was .4xx something. I just did my best to emulate Ken Griffey Jr., my favorite player with the best swing of all-time, and it worked. Anyway, in my first at-bat, I got jammed on a fastball, but managed to bloop a single. The kid struck out the big guy I was talking about after that. My second time around, the kid hung a curve, and I destroyed it. That was the only run we managed all game. My third and last time up, he nailed me with a fastball. We lost 7-1 I believe, and I managed two of the three hits we had. After the game, the pitcher came up and apologized for hitting me. He also said I was the only lefty who managed to hit a home run off him the last two seasons. Because I was 11 that season, I was eligible to be on the Williamsport team again the next season. I turned it down and chose to play on the lesser "tournament team" as it was called. I just wasn't into the 3+ hour practices of the Williamsport team, combined with the inflated egos of the kids on the team, plus some of the annoying parents. Definitely had more fun that time around.

I am. He reminded me of me at that age. Early puberty early bloomer. 5’8 around 12 years old. Sadly I only grew about 2.5 more inches while some people I towered over in 6th grade, towered over me in high school ☹️

@@stxmps3037 Yeah somewhere around there. High school I was 5'11 185. I remember I had quite the similar build to the guy. I didn't play baseball, but I did play tennis and I was crushing U12-16 tournaments because I had a nasty serve for the age groups due to my height and strength.

@@kerrisheets6145so have I. You can hear his wife n kids in the crowd cheering for him. He drives the team bus cause he’s the only one with his CDLs.
