After breaking my Roval Control carbon wheels it was time for a new wheelset on my Specialized Epic Evo. In this video I unbox, weigh, and explain why I choose NOBL TR35, the benefits of a wider wheel even for XC applications, and the specifics of the wheel build; hubs, spokes, etc along with weights.

I have had the TR33's on an Element for two years. Great wheelset that I have put about 1900 miles on. It has seen Moab, and local jump parks for its first 6 months until I found a proper enduro bike. I service my bike often at the bike shop. The wheels have never needed to be trued yet. I when with the Chris King, but I am very impressed with this set. I would have gone the TR35's if they made them 2 years ago.

Can't afford a high end carbon wheelset (one day i will) but I'm currently running alloy wtb i35 (35mm internal width) paired with 2.2 continental race Kings. For my fast small rock chunk rides with low pressures around 18psi front 19-20 rear and this setup absolute rips. It's so so fast. With a big amount of grip considering the tiny knobs on the tyre. That tyre molds to the ground and grips on better than anything else Iv come across for the given speed it has. I swap to a larger 2.4 tyre when i go to larger rocky trails that i need more distance between tyre and rim. Wider rims definitely make a large difference. I think as tyres and rims evolve 35mm internal width rims will become the standard like 30mm is today.

Wide rims with fast rolling tires and low pressure is the way to go! Sounds like you have a good setup!

I'll be sure to share my thoughts after I get some more miles on them. I am impressed so far, the extra width coming from 25mm inner width wheels makes a big difference with the 2.35" tires.

Did you consider the Byrd spokes? I know they are expensive but for a dream wheelset it would be cool.

I did look into the Byrd spokes the cost vs performance benefit didn't add up for me. If you wanted to ball out you could go with DT 180s and Byrds and save some additional weight.

Awesome job on this and great timing! Looking to build a "weight weenie" set of wheels for my stumpjumper evo so I can pedal it further/higher...do you think the TR35s are too purpose driven for down country or could you get away with them on an enduro weight weenie build? If TR37s are recommended, then I'd probably just go with the We Are One Unions...thanks for any insights you might be able to share! Cheers!

Thanks! It all depends on your terrain, weight, and riding style. The lighter wheels will flex more when pushed hard on the descents vs the sturdier options. I have WR1 Unions on my Enduro and love them they have held up really well and perform great. I think you'll find a bigger benefit for your purpose by choosing a sturdy wheel and a fast rolling tire setup.
