I still think this is a great bike especially for the $ right now. I decided to add some upgrades to it this year vs buy the new Epic 8.

Can't afford a high end carbon wheelset (one day i will) but I'm currently running alloy wtb i35 (35mm internal width) paired with 2.2 continental race Kings. For my fast small rock chunk rides with low pressures around 18psi front 19-20 rear and this setup absolute rips. It's so so fast. With a big amount of grip considering the tiny knobs on the tyre. That tyre molds to the ground and grips on better than anything else Iv come across for the given speed it has. I swap to a larger 2.4 tyre when i go to larger rocky trails that i need more distance between tyre and rim. Wider rims definitely make a large difference. I think as tyres and rims evolve 35mm internal width rims will become the standard like 30mm is today.

Wide rims with fast rolling tires and low pressure is the way to go! Sounds like you have a good setup!

I'm 5'6" and just got the 2022 in size S2. I like how nimble it is but have run into knee pain, even though the saddle height it correct (matched to previously fit bike). Wondering if this is caused by how slack the seat tube is, not allowing my knee/leg to track correctly, leading to strain. Any issues with this?
@HandlebarVentures12 күн бұрын
Personally no issues with fitment causing knee pain. I'd recommend watching some bike fit videos and sliding the seat forward if it feels too far back. Make sure your sag is dialed in first though as the suspension cycles the angles change, this makes dialing in bike fit extra tricky.

I have the Evo 7 and debating the new Epic 8. Your video convinced me to hold off as it not being worth the upgrade. The bumper stop would be nice as the AXS shifter has put some noticeable scratches on the top tube even with protective wrap. I race my Evo 7 and had an Epic 5 gen. At first so much sag and pedal bob but after several races I’m not so tired from all the rocks beating the hell out of me I’m actually faster.
@HandlebarVentures23 күн бұрын
Don't get me wrong I'd love to have the 8. I just can't justify the cost vs improvement. I'm adding Flight Attendant suspension to my Evo 7 I think this will really compliment the more active suspension of the bike and make it that much faster.

I am in between this bike and am emtb. I was going to get the specialized turbo levo 2024, but heard that the motor keeps breaking on it. Not sure how fast this bike goes. If this bike can get up to the same speed as a class 1 emtb, I think I would just choose this bike because of how light it is. Currently, I have the trek fuel ex 7 2022 and it is super slow.
@HandlebarVenturesАй бұрын
Depends how fit you are. Bike will only go as fast as you can power and pilot it. Everything equal Ebikes will always be faster bc they have a motor providing additional power.

@HandlebarVentures thanks! Yeah, I try to keep my cycling up and I also do a lot of upper bodyweight exercises, but for some reason, I go slow. When I sprint for about 20 minutes in the heaviest gear, my legs feel heavy. I constantly go up and down the stairs and am constantly active, but for some reason, am slow on the bike.

I ran into a situation where I wanted to cancel my order at one shop and buy a bike closer to home but shop said they would have to charge me a 15% restocking fee. So I called customer service to find out if such a thing was true and I wind up having a great 45 minute conversation with them about bikes and races and life in general and the next day I called the shop to tell him yes cancel order I don’t care I want to buy it closer to home and he said well Specialized is offering you 30% off sale price so I had no choice, picked up the WC for $4899

Hi, could you tell me please if sizing of new Epic 8 is same as Epic Evo7? The geometry has been changed, including a longer reach... did you take a smaller size or did you follow the advice of specialized? The reach of an M of the Epic 8 approximately corresponds to that of an L from the previous Epic Evo. The reach on medium Epic 8 (454 mm) is nearly the same as on large Epic 7 Evo (460 mm). I am 5’10 and between M and L. I have seen someone running longer stem on medium Epic 8 and he is slightly taller than me. Thanks

I prefer my S-Works Epic Evo 7. At 1,659g it’s the lightest 29er full-squish ever made. It’s already too slack for my trails so I run the flip chip in the high setting which also prevents pedal strikes. Plus it’s blue! 😍💙 I do want that SID Flight Attendant though! Will be upgrading as soon as the generic version comes out (supposedly June).

I'm in the same position as you, I have an Sworks Epic Evo 7, and the one massive improvement I would like to do is the Flight Attendant. Would we be able to fit the Flight Attendant rear shock on our frames, or will it only be the forks that are backwards compatible? Our frames have 110mm rear travel, whereas the new 8 has 120mm rear travel, so wasn't sure about compatibility. Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you in advance 👍🙏

@@jonoharper4729 our frame (Epic Evo 7) is the only bike not currently in production that will have a SID Flight Attendant shock available. Probably because it was a test bed for Rockshox. QST 106s are incredible. Hold an edge well, very easy to slide the tails and make smear turns with, very well damped which encourages you to ski fast through crud, float well for a 106 too. Very easy ski to get along with, the previous gen Kore 93s I had before were not.

Awesome job on this and great timing! Looking to build a "weight weenie" set of wheels for my stumpjumper evo so I can pedal it further/higher...do you think the TR35s are too purpose driven for down country or could you get away with them on an enduro weight weenie build? If TR37s are recommended, then I'd probably just go with the We Are One Unions...thanks for any insights you might be able to share! Cheers!
@HandlebarVentures4 ай бұрын
Thanks! It all depends on your terrain, weight, and riding style. The lighter wheels will flex more when pushed hard on the descents vs the sturdier options. I have WR1 Unions on my Enduro and love them they have held up really well and perform great. I think you'll find a bigger benefit for your purpose by choosing a sturdy wheel and a fast rolling tire setup.

Great review!!! When you compare it with the Roval Control 6b, isn’t the roval the same width? Therefore the same cornering quality? Why wouldn’t roval not replace your cracked wheel? I thought it was a lifetime warranty. Sorry, i am researching which one I should buy.
@HandlebarVentures5 ай бұрын
The new rovals are almost the exact same width as the NOBL TR35 but the previous generation that came on my Epic Evo were 25mm inner width. Read the fine print of Specialized's "lifetime warranty" and you'll see they only cover ride damage through the first two years, ultimately that's why I went with the NOBL's vs a crash replacement of my roval wheelset.
