@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 2 жыл бұрын
@@eddyann2 when you go with a cheaper brand, you risk the beam quality. I would try a set of brand name bulbs from OSRAM or Philips, and see if that helps. The ballast can be expensive to replace, so that should be secondary. You could also try swapping the two bulbs if you suspect only one ballast to be bad. I don't believe the ballast will make the bulb dim though, it will work or it won't. Hope that helps.

Another great video thanks! I have a quick store. I was very displeased with my factory bulbs in my car. In doing my research I found your video review and checked out your recommendations on your website. Not following your recommendation I purchased and install the Xenon HID Kits. After about a week I started having problem with the passager bulb. Got a replacement from the company and then started having problems with the drivers' side. In less than two week I reinstall the factory bulbs and surrendered to your reviews. I order, received, and installed the Morimoto 5500k HID kit from BRI and I gotta tell ya...these is 3-4 times brighter than factory and twice as bright as the Xenon HIDs. Amazing!! Even more interesting were the Hi Beams. They were basically nonexistent from the Xenon kit and incredible from the Morimotos. I live in the trees in Woodstock, Il, and these lights help out a ton see twice as far down the road while navigating these dark roads. I have shared your website with a few of my friends interested in changing out their lights. Thanks again for your reviews. I will use your site as a tool to help others with their bulb selections.

Thanks Brett, I appreciate that :) Check out our article regarding some of your questions here: bulbfacts.com/help. Personally, my bulbs are always changing as I am always testing, but my preferred setup is a xenon projector with a good D2S (OSRAM, Philips, etc) and since I drive a German car, i use DeAuto LED products as they work well on the CANBUS system and have never failed. If you have problems with HID though, you may want to consider the premium brands like Morimoto (aftermarket), but if you have stock xenons, then the OSRAM and Philips brands would be best and last the longest, provide the best precision, etc. Let me know if you have any other questions though!

They are made in China it just feels they very cheaply made. I spent the money and got the OSRAM CBB made in Germany. Thank for the vid.

@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 3 жыл бұрын
If you have reflectors, stick with LED. HID is best for projectors. 5000k is better for all around weather including snow. If you live in mostly clear conditions, go with 6000k. OEM Xenon is going to be around 4300k, however newer models are using around 5500k in LED, with Mercedes even higher for some reason (for a unique look we believe).

Which do you recommend between OSRAM Cool Blue Boost and Cool Blue Advance? And why? Thanks again and keep up the great research!
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alejandro, glad to hear it! I would recommend the CBB over the CBA due to their superior color (~5500k vs 6000k+, so less blue). They are very close in output though. I can't say for sure which will last longer yet, but we plan to test the lifespan in the future. Coming from OSRAM though, both should perform well along their life.

I have watched some of your videos and i find them very resourceful. Here is my situation i recently purchased a pair of Spyder dual Halo projector headlights that came with yea you got it just your below average halogen bulb. I am looking to upgrade but unfortunately LED are out the question. Oh forgot to mention that my car is a 2001 chevy impala. So when i do drive at night i like to have things pretty bright way out in front of me, so could you recommend which H1 Halogen bulb might be best for my situation ? Any info would be deeply appreciated ty
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, the halogens the aftermarket headlights come with are typically generic like you said. I would look at the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's if you want the best halogen. But since you have projectors, I would highly recommend an HID conversion. Morimoto, GTR Lighting, DDM Tuning are great options. HID will provide much more light output as well as a further available distance. They are worth the trouble of installing!

I have a question- have you guys ever done testing on the spectrum of light cast, and charted it? I feel like looking at LUX is like measuring the quality of a sound with DB only as opposed to looking at the spectrum of sound charted out? Maybe develop a new metric that measures different parts of the spectrum, and adds them together with weight where they can be best seen in visual spectrum
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 2 жыл бұрын
Hi accordv6er, great suggestion! We have yes, but the results will dramatically vary depending on the headlight. We had added 'total output' by testing the lumens as well. Color also effects the output. By testing the peak lux in the hotspot in both low and high beam projectors (from the 3 major mfrs/types), we are able to get a very good idea of how they perform in the real world in various headlight systems.

After seeing this video i ordered GT Ultra d3s on a 2013 VW. Have just another car like it and on it we have Osram NB Laser. The Laser from Osram is way brighter, we lined up the cars and the GT Ultras are Weak. The lux meter test confirmed it. Right after that we lined up my cousins 2017 S class W222 with the LED and it its like 5X brighter that both the Laser NB and GT Ultra together. BulbFacts, any idea what type of led bulbs are on that Mercedes?
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 4 жыл бұрын
Hey shkelqim, thanks for sharing! The output will also depend on the projector bowl, but our results are based on D2S bulbs primarily, so perhaps the GT Ultra in D3S is not as strong per your finding. For the Mercedes, they use the latest in technology in the S-Class, always far ahead of other companies, so that is expected. Hi mml060709, it's up to you, but we haven't tested the other colors to know for sure, but they do seem to run low, so we could assume a 6000k may be closer to 5500k. Just keep in mind the ZRSJ are a lower quality replacement, while bright may not last too long.

Hi Feliks, 5000k would be the best in terms of output and a pure white color. 4300k is a warmer white, and arguably better for inclement weather visibility. However the brightest bulbs have moved towards 5000k+ which resembles an OE LED color, typically around 5500k. I hope that helps!

@SterNebula
@SterNebula 2 жыл бұрын
Update: Alright I bought them and I installed them today, so far they are definitely brighter than OEM (Philips D1S C1), however they appear with different color temperature than tested here, it is 4300K warm white as advertised in the box so no deference from OEM and I'm slightly disappointed. I have heard somewhere that some bulbs take around 18 hours of run time then they shift into a consistent color temperature like the Philips Xtreme white vision gen2. I hope it's true so my bulbs shift into a cooler color temperature. If they still at 4300K I'll swap them to Osram Cool Blue Boost in the next few years or so. Final update: Nope, more than 30 hours of run time and they are still 4300k which is good if you are looking for bright bulbs. But bad for me since I was looking for ~5000k bulbs. Maybe for the next time I'll swap to Osrams cool blue boost (CBB) since most people suggest them for bright ~5000k bulbs.
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 2 жыл бұрын
@@SterNebula thanks for sharing! That's unfortunate, as our product tested at 5000k (from their 4300k model). So it sounds like perhaps they corrected that. I'll pick up another set for testing and run them through again to see if the color has changed, and get our website updated right away. Sorry about that! BTW We do burn them in for about 12hrs prior to testing as well, with a 24hr cool down in between. The OSRAM CBB is really a great option, and will last you a long time while maintaining it's brightness longer.

What do you think would be the best legal way to upgrade low beams in Europe? I live in Finland, late fall to early spring are very dark, so i'd love to upgrade my lights. The problem is that retrofit LED bulbs are straight up illegal, and HID conversions require the vehicle to meet certain criteria (mine doesn't). I considered the brightest halogens, but they don't last very long. Also the law mandates that everyone has to have low beams or DRLs on at all times, depending whether the vehicle has DRLs. Mine doesn't have DRLs, so it would kill the halogens life even faster.

Hi Clinton, it sounds like it could be a few things; 1. DOUBLE CHECK the validity of the bulbs you purchased. Most of what is sold online is fake and has poor output. If the price is too good to be true it is. BRI Source, TheRetrofitSource, and PowerBulbs are great options for GENUINE bulbs. 2. Have somebody check for burn marks, abnormal wear, etc. on your projectors and headlights. If you did in fact have good quality genuine OSRAM bulbs, the should have VERY good output, but if the headlight is oxidized for example, output is diminished greatly. I hope that helps!

Hi Jonathan, going 10k is very blue, but adding 55w ballasts will lower the temperature a bit, but it will still be very blue, so visibility will be reduced. No problem! There is no worry, especially for fan models. The fan merely serves as optimal LED cooling, as LED chips dim with heat. D1S and D2S run a higher voltage, whereas D3S and D4S are considered eco which run at a lower voltage and contain no mercury, but consequently don't shine as bright as D1/2. Hope that helps!

How do the Osram CBB compare to the Philips Xenon White Vision Gen 2.. www.powerbulbs.com/us/product/philips-xenon-whitevision-gen2-d3s-single Really curious to see the comparison as Philips claim these match LED .

Hi vpyngolil, the OSRAM CBB will be brighter as well as a whiter (cooler) color temperature compared to the Philips. We just got in the new Philips LED products so we'll be testing those soon! Even the brightest LEDs though still don't match these Xenons. Our test of the brightest LED in a projector (Lumibright XT1 G2) compared to an OSRAM Original Xenon, the Xenon bulb was still a bit brighter, so moving to an upgraded bulb like the CBB will have an even larger advantage. LED doesn't perform well in a Bi-Xenon projector either (in the high beam specifically) due to the design and it's inability to focus light upward when it's needed.

@@BulbFacts thank you! Great info! I will probably buy the CBBs . I am hoping they will match the DRLs better.

The ES350 takes a D4S which we haven't officially tested, however the D2S results I sent over should still help in deciding a good replacement.

Have you tested any D2R ??
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 3 жыл бұрын
We have not, just D2S. Since D2R is the same bulb though but just with reflector coatings, I would suspect the output is similar.

Thanks Dk Guy for sharing! We'll be performing lifespan tests in the future, but I suspect the budget options won't last as long as the OE brands. Let me know how it works out though!

so the links provided are overseas? Anyone in the US selling Legit Osram bulbs?
@BulbFacts

Hi Jose, you are right to be cautious, as there are a LOT of fakes being sold. Generally if the price is too good to be true it usually is. Here are known vendors selling only genuine Xenons: BRISource.com, PowerBulbs.com, TheRetrofitSource.com. We have purchased products from all three sources and they always checked out genuine each time. BRI and TRS are US based, and PB is based in the UK but ship to the US.

Arent the Osram Cool Blue Boost supposed to be like 7000K ?
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 6 ай бұрын
They claim 'up to', and it's possible with the right environment, headlight housing, and bulb size that it's possible, but in our test environment we only seen about 5500k which I personally prefer, but some people are expecting a higher color temperature and may be disappointed.
