Population is a considerable fact but not much...because if USA or China needs to tie you in medals per million population, all the given Olympic medals are not enough for them to win. But a great achievement compared to some countries which have a higher population than you but still behind you in sports

How is Ariane winning the 400, an upset? She won at the worlds in pretty much the same fashion - just in a lane on the other side of Ledecky. If Ledecky was going to win the 400 it was going to be by the barest margin. So how is Arnie winning the 400 much of an upset? At worst, they would have been equal favourites, and probably Titmus was favourite.
@garrywallace1007
@garrywallace1007 2 жыл бұрын
Indeed- Titmus won the WC, short course WC, had the SC world record and very nearly broke the 400m world record a month before, and came in to the Olympics 3 seconds faster than Ledecky in 2021.....
@ashenmanjula667
@ashenmanjula667 2 жыл бұрын
It was claimed that Ledecky had stomachache just before the 400 free race in 2019 WC. Hence, many US swimming fans were high on Ledecky to win 400 free. And further most of them have claimed Ledecky was unrested at trials and will drop significant time at Olympics to win the event. It also came with the narrative that most of the Aussie swimmers have choked under pressure at the previous Olympics and couldn't match the trials' times at the Olympics. Anyway that narrative was absolutely changed at these Olympics. I say both were co-favortites in 400 free.
@Bbouy1HD
@Bbouy1HD 2 жыл бұрын
Its an upset for the casual viewer, but for swimmer nerds i'd say it was pretty equal in this, yeah Arnie might be slight favourite. Though, the 200m people were very surprised Ledecky didn't win though Titmus was the big favourite for that and obviously Ledecky in the 800
@BM-wf9uf
@BM-wf9uf 2 жыл бұрын
At this stage Ledecky was still the Olympic champion. There was a lot of talk about the legitimacy of Arnie's previous win over Ledecky as she was apparently ill in the lead up to the race. Not surprised by the result of the 800m, probably Katie's strongest event. Safe to say this Olympics silenced any critics of Arnie's status as the world's best mid distance swimmer.
